In 1999, John Smith, a high-school teacher decided it was time to retire. Together with his wife Helen, he set off on a journey around Australia. But when they returned, John found he missed the classroom, so he spent another eight years doing casual teaching.
Then he heard about a program known as Volunteers for Isolated Students’ Education (VISE), which pairs up energetic people with educational experience, usually retired teachers, with children whose schooling is largely done remotely, because they live too far away from towns and cities to attend regular schools. John grew up in the country and as a kid in the bush, he always dreamed of running with circus, but he didn't even have much chance to see the circus in person. Therefore he was immediately interested in the program and got a travelling post as a teacher with Stardust Circus.
The lesson timetable was built around the kid's performance schedules. “The eight-year-old I tutored was an awesome gymnast who was part of the teeterboard(跷跷板) act,” he explains. “A big guy would jump on the other side, he would swing up in the air, do a couple of twirls(旋转) and land on his uncle's shoulders, and his uncle was standing on the boy's father's shoulders!”
The circus still includes some animal acts, including lions, monkeys, horses, goats and pigs. John and his wife Helen found it extraordinary enough to sink into sleep to the sound of lions roaring, but one day the lion-trainer, Matt, gave him a very special privilege, inviting him in to meet four 13-month old lions in person. While it was understandably a little scary at first, for John it was a never-to-be-forgotten experience, which helped him realize his boyhood dream in ms 75th year.

A teenager needs to have a sense of independence in their life to feel secure(安全的). To some teenagers independence means a lot to them, and I think that some parents don't allow their teenagers enough independence.
Independence has something to do with freedom. Some kids are not allowed to go anywhere alone, and the only thing their schedule includes is going to school, coming home, going to sleep, and repeating the process the next day. Parents tend to be afraid that their kids can get hunt if they go outside into the world. But if parents control their kids too much, they may never learn to live on their own. The best way for a teenager to learn lesson is through experience. I think it is beneficial for teenagers to have freedom.
Teenagers' lack of freedom can also stop them from having good friendship at school . Some might say this is a good thing, because it helps them focus more on their school work. I argue that this can only discourage them not to do their school work. Some parents do not allow their children to be around their friends outside the school, thinking that this will get them into trouble. But I don't think so. Instead, isn't this a good reason for parents to get their children a cellphone Cellphones allow teenagers to stay in touch with their parents, and communicate with friends.
Privacy is another issue between parents and their teenagers.Teenagers tend to enjoy relaxation by themselves in their own room. This also gives them a sense of independence. It often annoys teenagers when their parents enter their room when they are not home. I know that my mom always goes in my room when I'm not home, and this has brought me to the point where I have asked many times to get a lock on my door.

24. In the opinion of the author,
A. it is unnecessary for a kid to have a cellphone
B. kids should focus on the school work
C. parents should make it easy for kids to communicate with their friends
D. good friendships between kids harm their school work

A. Angry B. Lucky C. Disappointed D. Calm
26. The author hopes to have her door locked in order to .
A. keep her father from reading her dairy B. stop thieves from going in
C. protect herself from any harm D. prevent her mother entering her room

You see a fantastic offer, like a hotel room. You decide to book. Then it turns out there is a service fee. Then a cleaning fee. Then a few other extra costs. By the time you pay the final price, it is no longer the fantastic offer you thought.
Welcome to the world of drip pricing — the practice of promoting something at an attractive headline price and then, once you' ve committed to the purchase process, hitting you with unavoidable add-ons that are“dripped”.
In most cases, you see through all additionally added mandatory fees, and even though you could relinquish the deal, you choose to bite the bullet and complete the deal. Resistance to the idea of starting the search all over again is not simply a matter of laziness or indecision. There's a profound psychological mechanism at play here, called the present bias.
In the paper, Doing It Now or Later, economist Matthew Rabin defines people’ s present-biased preference via an example of choosing between doing seven hours of unpleasant activity on April 1 or eight hours two weeks later: If asked on February 1, most people will choose the earlier option. But come April 1, given the same choice. most of us tend to put off work till April 15. In simple terms, the inconvenience of doing something“right now” often feels disproportionately large. Beyond the challenge of starting over, there's another psychological phenomenon that drip pricing uses - loss aversion. Imagine you' re booking tickets for a show. Initially attracted by the headline price, you' re now presented with different seating categories. Seeing a VIP ticket is within your budget, you decide to fork out. But then, during the checkout process, the drip begins. You realize you could have chosen lower-category seats, but by this stage, you' ve already imagined yourself enjoying the show from those nice seats. Going back to a cheaper seat will feel like a loss.
Buyers would benefit from a ban on drip pricing. Many countries are taking steps to protect consumers from drip pricing. The effectiveness of such measures, however, is uncertain. Nonetheless, you can hopefully make a more informed decision by understanding why the strategy works.
27. Which of the following is an example of drip pricing
A FlightHub introduces a bonus after you choose their flight.
B Airbnb offers you a membership account when you book a trip.
C. Rent-A-Car charges wear and tear fees beyond the advertised price.
D. Ticketmaster provides optional items at later stages of your purchase.
28. What does the underlined word“relinquish” in paragraph 3 mean
A. Reach. B. Abandon. C. Sign. D. Expand.
29. How will Rabin explain people's refusal to cancel an order and remake one
A. People are likely to blindly stick to their initial intentions.
B. People like to grab earlier rewards and delay immediate costs.
C. People struggle to make a decision among multiple choices.
D. People tend to tolerate additional costs within their budget.
30. What is the author's main purpose in writing the text
A. To explain why people fall into the drip pricing trick.
B. To educate customers on how to deal with drip pricing.
C To call on governments to protect consumers’ interests.
D. To introduce two psychological phenomena about spending.

It was the first day of our new grade. Everyone in the classroom was chatting happily, excited to see each other again after the long holidays. When the door slid open, all of us stopped talking and turned to look. In came our teacher Ms. Sullivan, followed by an ordinary-looking boy.
“This boy's name is Rafae.” Ms, Sullivan announced. “He's a transfer student(转校生), and he's going to be in our class starting from today. Make sure all of you welcome him warmly.”
The class clapped. But I didn't want to have a second look at the newcomer, for he had no outstanding qualities considering his small figure and casual T-shirt.
“Ob,I forgot to mention one thing.” Ms Sullivan spoke up. “Rafael actually has hearing problems. Normally he would have hearing aids on, but his old ones have just been broken. His doctor suggested that he stay at home until he got his new ones. However, Rafael insisted on attending his first day of school. So if you want to communicate with him, you have to write t on a piece of paper.”
This single speech sent the whole class up into an uproar(嘈杂). Some students looked at each other with expressions of surprise. Others voiced cries of concern out of pity.
Ms Sullivan calmed everyone down. I'd like someone to personally help him out throughout the day. Do I have any volunteers ”
“How can a disabled person be intelligent ” I thought to myself. I refused to raise my hand, expecting someone else would. But nobody did or said anything. Dead silence spread across the classroom.
It was by total bad luck that my eyes happened to meet Ms. Sullivan's.
“How about you, James ” She asked me. “Is it okay for you to take care of Rafael just for today ”
It is difficult to refuse a request by someone, especially if that person is a teacher. I sighed and nodded slightly. Ms. Sullivan gestured for Rafael to sit beside me and then asked us to share our holiday stories with the class.

第四部分写作 (共一节,满分25分)
Immediately, the class became excited. Some could hardly wait to tell their seatmates about their holiday trips, eyes shining and faces glowing with joy. Those who hadn't been anywhere(bombarded sb with 连续提问) kept asking them with inquiring questions. Enormous exultation(欢悦) welled up in every corner of the classroom. Obviously confused at the sudden common(喧闹) around, Rafael turned to me for reasons in written words. Surprisingly, my explanation put a smile on his face 让…脸上露出笑容. “Any volunteer to share your story ” asked Ms. Sullivan, whose words I set down on paper for Rafael.
Then Rafael rose and walked onto the platform. Greeting us with a confident smile, Rafael shared his story in a magnetic voice, which left me stunned. I felt more ashamed to learn that he ran a website to help children with hearing problems than guilty about stupidly thinking disabled people couldn't be intelligent. Then his voice was lost in a thunderous outburst of applause. Feeling a lump in the throat, I clapped my hands even more loudly, determined never to judge a book by its cover.
