Four of the Best Money Games for Kids
When was the last time your kids saw you pay for something in cash Chances are that your kids rarely see bills and coins exchange hands. Living in a digital world, it’s difficult for kids to understand what really happens when adults pay for things. The following are some money games for kids that can teach them the different values of bills and coins, how to handle money, and even economics.
Buy It Right
Age range: Ages 7 to 12
Buy It Right lets kids get hands-on experience dealing with bills and coins while introducing the concept of prices and thinking through whether an object is too expensive or not. Kids set their prices and buy and sell items while moving their piece around the board.
Money Match Me
Age range: Ages 5 to 8
While not entirely a game, Money Match Me can be a fun way to test kids’ knowledge of coins. One card shows a group of coins needing to be matched with a written description. For example, a picture of three quarters would be matched with a card that says “seventy-five cents”.
Money Bags
Age range: Recommended for ages 7+
If your kids need practice counting money and telling apart different coins, the Money Bags game can help. As players move along the board, they collect money from the bank. The winner is the person who has the most money when the game ends.
Pay Day
Age range: Ages 8 and up
This classic board game simulates what it’s like to get a paycheck each month while also having financial duties. Players are also able to receive 10% interest on the balance of their savings. The player with the most cash and savings at the end wins.
1. What is the skill focus of Buy It Right
A. Introducing basic business concepts. B. Recognizing different bills and coins.
C. Learning to identify and count money. D. Making kids consider prices and expenses.
2. Which money game recommends the youngest age limit
A. Buy It Right. B. Money Bags.
C. Money Match Me. D. Pay Day.
3. What do Money Bags and Pay Day have in common
A. Players focus on adding different bills.
B. Whoever owns the most money is the winner.
C. Kids learn how to budget in a reasonable way.
D. Kids are able to receive interest on their savings.
B
Cesare Mencarini is a high school student. His focus was on math, chemistry and physics.
Cesare’s mother is an architect and his father is an electronic engineer. As a child, Cesare became interested in electronics. He loved to experiment. He learned to program computers and equipment like the Arduino and Raspberry Pi. He also worked with a 3D printer.
After seeing a video about someone building a fusion reactor (核聚变反应堆), Cesare decided he would do something meaningful, too. The school wasn’t so excited about the idea. But Cesare worked to persuade his teachers. Finally, after a complete safety review, and with an extra advisor offering to help out, the school agreed.
Cesare was a strong student, but his regular classes weren’t teaching him how to build a fusion reactor. To learn this, he spent countless hours doing research, looking up information on the Internet, and watching videos. He would read, watch 10 or 15 videos, and then try to solve the problem. He also visited a website where he got advice from scientists with more experience.
Step by step, working long hours with his physics teacher and his advisor, Cesare built the reactor. Last June, at the very end of the school year, the reactor was finished. Over a year has passed since then. Cesare has continued to improve the reactor. He has built complicated equipment to control the pressure and to better see and understand what’s going on inside the reactor.
He’s one of the youngest students to have built such an advanced fusion reactor. But for Cesare, it wasn’t just about the reactor. It was also about learning by doing, and about making connections with other people doing similar things. College is the next stop for Cesare — perhaps in England, perhaps in Italy. No matter where he goes, he’ll probably continue to change people’s ideas about how much young people can achieve.
4. What made Cesare determined to build a fusion reactor
A. His interest in videos. B. The inspiration from someone.
C. His parents’ influence. D. The support from his school.
5. What do we say about Cesare from paragraph 4
A. He struggled to prepare for the reactor. B. He depended heavily on useful videos.
C. He worked with experienced scientists. D. He had difficulty in getting information.
6. What is Cesare expected to do in the future
A. Build another reactor. B. Learn new things through the Internet.
C. Make greater progress. D. Go to a famous college.
7. Which can be the best title for the text
A. Videos Act As A Teacher B. Cesare Became A Rising Star
C. How To Put Theory Into Practice D. A Boy Successfully Built A Reactor
C
Heat waves don’t just make bumblebees (大黄蜂) hot. High temperatures also seem to seriously reduce their sense of smell, which can be very bad for their survival. For bumblebees, being able to smell flowers is a matter of life or death because it helps them find food.
Bumblebees are already known to suffer from climate change. So, a researcher from the University of Würzburg in Germany and her team wanted to understand if heat waves could influence bumblebees’ ability to smell flowers.
The researchers put around 190 bumblebees from two common species into small special rooms for almost three hours at temperatures of 40℃ to simulate (模拟) heat waves. Some bumblebees were also put in a dry environment; some had ways to sugary resources; some were given time to recover at normal temperatures for 24 hours after the heat treatment. After the simulated heat waves, the researchers cut off the bumblebees’ antennae (触须), which they use to smell, and measured whether the olfactory sensory neurons (the cells that help them smell) in the antennae could still detect flower scents.
The heat waves reduced the bumblebees’ ability to smell by up to 80 percent. Worker bumblebees, which are all female, were more affected than male bumblebees. Even worse, the antennae of the bumblebees that had 24 hours to cool off still didn’t recover their sense of smell after that time. “That was surprising,” said the researcher. This suggests the bumblebees don’t recover quickly, which means they might have trouble finding food. “It could be one reason why we see so many bumblebee’s population drops,” she added, along with other factors like habitat loss.
“The study seems pretty reliable,” said a bumblebee ecologist from the University of Sussex in Brighton, England, who didn’t take part in the study. “The antennae are quite similar across bee species,” he added. “If bumblebees suffer in this way, I think it’s probable that other bees would too. But we won’t know for sure until someone does research on it.”
8. What problem might bumblebees face in the end because of heat waves
A. Death risk. B. Habitat loss. C. Food shortage. D. Sensory failure.
9. Why were some bumblebees given 24 hours to recover after the treatment
A. To prevent the researchers making mistakes.
B. To make sure they can adapt to the environment.
C. To prove if hot waves damage their sense of smell.
D. To persuade other people into believing the research.
10. What does the researcher think of the research result
A. It leads to a good method.
B. It goes beyond her control.
C. It limits the scientific research on bumblebees.
D. It explains why the bumblebee’s population reduced.
11. What can we learn about other bees according to the bumblebee ecologist
A. There is still a lot to study. B. They will suffer from death.
C. They will be well protected. D. More researchers are studying them.
D
Everyone has their own way to “recharge” their sense of well-being — something that makes them feel good physically, emotionally, and spiritually even if they aren’t consciously aware of it. Personally, I know that few things can improve my day as quickly as a walk around the block or even just getting up from my desk and doing some push-ups. A hike through the woods is ideal when I can make it happen. But that’s me. It’s not simply that I enjoy these activities but also that they make me feel better and clear my mind.
Mental health and physical health are closely connected. No kidding — what’s good for the body is often good for the mind. Knowing that what you can do physically has this effect for you will change your day and your life.
Physical activity has many mental health benefits. These have been published in the journal Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans and include improved brain health and cognitive function — the ability to think, if you will, a reduced risk of tension and worry, improved sleep and overall quality of life. Although not a cure for all, increasing physical activity directly contributes to improved mental health and better overall health and well-being.
Learning how to manage stress and getting screened for depression are simply good prevention practices in daily life. Awareness is especially important at this time of year, when disruptions to healthy habits and choices can be more likely and more annoying.
Shorter days and colder temperatures have a way of breaking up the normal life — as do the holidays, with both their joys and their stresses. When the rich sunshine and clear skies of temperate(温和的) months give way to terrible weather, less daylight, and festive gatherings, it may happen unconsciously or seem natural to be less physically active. However, that tendency is just why it’s so important that we are ever more mindful of our physical and emotional health and how we can maintain both at this time of year.
12. What is the author’s regular way of “recharging” his well-being
A. Working out in a gym. B. Staying and doing nothing.
C. Hiking in the woods. D. Slight exercise.
13. What can we learn from paragraph 3
A. The importance of good sleep.
B. The ways to improve brain health.
C. The mental health benefits of physical activity.
D. The bond between mental health and physical health.
14. What does the underlined word “disruption” in paragraph 4 probably mean
A. Achievement. B. Destruction. C. Advantage. D. Development.
15. Why does the author mention shorter days, colder temperatures and festivals
A. To persuade us to enjoy our current lives. B. To show useful advice on keeping healthy.
C. To describe unexpected things in our lives. D. To remind us to care about well-being anytime.

【66题答案】
【答案】Dear Hank,
I’m sorry to hear that you feel upset about not being selected for the school football team. But don’t be too discouraged.
I suggest you take this as an opportunity to focus on other interests or skills you have. Besides, don’t forget to keep practicing and improving your football skills. Who knows, maybe next year you’ll make the team.
Remember, failure is just a part of life, and it’s how we respond to it that truly defines us. Stay positive and keep working hard. I believe you can achieve your goals.
