Alice: Look! This restaurant looks interesting. The sign says a rock band plays
here every evening.
He Wei: Why don’t we come back here for dinner later Let’s ask what time
the band starts playing.

He Wei: Excuse me, could you tell us when the band starts playing this evening
Staff: Eight o’clock.The restaurant is always busy at that time, so come a little
earlier to get a table.

e.g. He started working last week. 他上周开始工作。
Language Points
【拓展】作“开始”讲时，start 与 begin 二者可互换，但以下几种情况
只能用 start，不能用 begin。
(1) 表示“创办”“开设”时。
e.g. He started a new shop last year. 去年他新开了一家商店。
(2) 表示“（机器）开动”时。
e.g. Can you start the car 你能发动这辆车吗？
(3) 表示“出发”“动身”时。
e.g. We started early in the morning. 我们在上午早早出发了。
3. I suggest Water City Restaurant in Water World. 我建议去水上世界
的水城餐馆。（教材第19页）
suggest 及物动词，意为“建议；提议”，名词形式为 suggestion，意为
“建议；提议”。其用法为：
(1) suggest sth. 意为“提议/建议某事”。
e.g. He suggested a walk. 他提议散散步。
(2) suggest doing sth. 意为“建议做某事”。
e.g. She suggested going there by bike. 她建议骑自行车去那儿。
(3) suggest + that 引导的宾语从句，意为“建议……”，
这时宾语从句要用虚拟语气，谓语动词“（should+）动词原形”。
e.g. He suggested (that) we (should) do it at once. 他建议我们立刻做这
件事。

suggest 还可译为“暗示；表明”。
e.g. His pale face suggested that he was ill. 他苍白的脸色表明他生
病了。

5. The restaurant is always busy at that time, so come a little earlier

a little earlier意为“早一点儿”。其中a little在句中修饰比较级
earlier。在形容词比较级前常有much ……得多，a littler/a bit
一点儿，even甚至，still更等来修饰，表示程度进一步加深。
