(2024·广东深圳·中考真题)After a 10-year project to count tuna and other large fish in the world's oceans, scientists have made a very surprising discovery: these fish are almost gone. Because of too much fishing, almost 90 percent of the worldwide population of large fish—the ones we usually eat—has disappeared. If we don’t act, these animals will totally disappear. That will influence every animal in the ocean.
The demand for fish is growing. Almost a billion people around the world get their protein (蛋白质) mostly from fish. Doctors praise seafood for being low in fat. But what seems like a healthy choice for humans is causing a disaster to our oceans. “People are consuming (消费) too much,” says Lance Morgan, a scientist at the Marine Conservation Biology Institute.
A dish of tuna in restaurants costs more than just one animal's life. When fish like tuna disappear from the ecosystem (生态系统), the ocean’s food chain (链) breaks down. Animals such as sharks, which normally eat tuna, may die because they find no food.
The news may be scary, but taking action from now on can prevent harm that hasn’t happened yet. World organizations are ordering countries to stop fishing too much. The Monterey Bay Aquarium gives seafood choices to anyone hoping to keep healthy without destroying the environment.
“If you care about wildlife, first spend time and think about your own values and beliefs,” says Morgan. “Then decide what you’re going to eat.”

(2022·广东深圳·中考真题)The giant Amazon rainforest in South America has been a mystery for centuries. It holds all kinds of natural wonders. Among them in Colombia, a river stands out as “the most beautiful river” in the world.
Locally called Camio Cristales, this special river lies in a national park. It is made up of several waterfalls rapids, and plenty of pools. For most of the year, Canio Cristales looks like a common river: clean, green, and rocky. However, during the short period between September and November, the river explodes(迸发)with life and color. It appears as any mix of colors including blue, green, yellow, orange, and a purplish red. So it is also known as the “River of Five Colors”.
Although at first it may appear as if some chemicals were added to the water, this rainbow river is completely natural. Cafio Cristales’ colors are the result of a rare(稀有) water plant which needs sunlight to grow. The plants change color depending on how much sunlight they receive, and the amount is decided by the height and speed of the water. Therefore, it is possible for the plants to be totally colorless if the sunlight is too hard to get. They are a delicate plant. This makes them easily damaged in the water.
Actually, the river faces some problems, including drier seasons, wildlife trouble, waste management, and budget (预算)cuts. In 2007, the park was forced to close because it was over-crowded with tourists. Now the park admits only 200 people a day and requires them to mind their behaviour.
Today, Cano Cristales still shines among Colombia’s most popular natural attractions, drawing thousands of tourists every year.
1.When is the best time to visit Cafio Cristales

C.World’s Most Beautiful River
D.Protecting the River of Five Colors
(2024·广东深圳·三模)In 2019, Canadians were advised to accept plant-based proteins such as beans, nuts and tofu instead of meat. “Over the past years, we’ve seen a changing food environment with more access to plant-based food. So it’s necessary to examine the nutritional (营养的) results of children following vegetarian (素食的) diets in Canada,” said Dr Jonathon Maguire, a doctor at St. Michael’s Hospital of Unity Health Toronto.
Researchers tested 8,907 children in a study. The data were collected between 2008 and 2019. Children were grouped by their vegetarian status (状态)——defined as a dietary pattern that doesn’t include meat or non-vegetarian status.
The researchers found children who had a vegetarian diet had similar mean body mass index (BMI), height, iron and vitamin D levels to those who ate meat. But the researchers also showed evidence (证据) that children having a vegetarian diet were nearly twice as likely to be underweight. There was no evidence of a connection with being overweight.
Being underweight may be a sign that the quality of the child’s diet doesn’t meet his or her nutritional needs to support normal growth. For children who eat a vegetarian diet, the researchers stressed access to healthcare providers who can provide growth monitoring, education and guidance to support the children’s growth and nutritional intake.
The plant-based dietary pattern is recognized as a healthy eating pattern because of increased intake of fruit, vegetables, whole grains and a low fat content. However, the researchers didn’t judge the quality of the vegetarian diets. There are different types of vegetarian diets, and a child’s growth and nutritional intake may be greatly affected by the diet’s quality. So further research is needed to examine the quality of vegetarian diets in childhood, as well as growth and nutritional results among children following a vegetarian diet.

3.What is the researchers’ advice on caring for vegetarian children
A.Teaching them to cook by themselves.
B.Having them receive medical treatment regularly.
C.Asking for professional guidance on healthy diets for them.
D.Creating a comfortable dining environment for them.

(2024·广东深圳·二模)In October 2023, three Mediterranean fruit flies were discovered in Leimert Park, California. This was serious news for farmers in California, a big farming state. The solution to the problem seems a little unusual: freeing millions more of the flies.
The Mediterranean fruit fly, known as the “Medfly”, is one of the most serious dangers to farmers worldwide. Once the flies make their way into an area, it can be very hard for farmers to drive them away.
The flies lay their eggs in over 300 kinds of fruits and vegetables. When the eggs hatch, they turn into worm-like larvae that can destroy these products. However, it can be hard to know that the flies are there until it’s too late.
The fruits and vegetables still look normal even after the eggs are laid inside. So the damaged fruits and vegetables can be sent to other places, allowing the Medflies to spread.
To stop the problem from spreading, the government build a large quarantine area, which means that no farm products can be moved out of that area. Luckily, California has developed a program to control Medflies. The plan includes using planes to drop millions of Medflies over the area. In fact, they only drop male flies, and all of them have been treated so that they can’t help produce new fruit flies. The males are sterile. This means that even though they can mate with female fruit flies, the eggs produced will never grow or hatch.

(2023·广东深圳·三模)ChatGPT is back in the headlines! OpenAI, the company behind the popular chatbot, has now introduced a powerful new language model: GPT-4.
On March 14, GPT-4 showed the world how smarter it is than the previous GPT3.5. One of its best new features is that it can understand pictures. For example, if you show a picture of a phone using the wrong charger, GPT-4 can tell why the picture looks strange or funny.
But GPT-4’s developments don’t stop there. The new language model can code classic games like Tetris (俄罗斯方块) in just a few minutes and produce the code and layout (布局) for a website. It can also change the tone and style based on what you ask it to do. GPT-4 is much better than the older GPT at passing tests as well, which may worry teachers.
GPT-4 will also see greater use as a tool to power other apps and services. For example, users of the language learning app Duolingo can learn language by talking with AI. Another app, Be My Eyes, will have a digital assistant to help blind people better understand the world around them. The government of Iceland also plans to use GPT-4 to protect the Icelandic language.

(2023·广东深圳·二模)During the two sessions(两会), Lei Jun, who started China’s tech company Xiaomi, called for more e-waste (电子垃圾) recycling plans in China.
“China should make plans to make full use of those unwanted phones and computers. It can reduce the country’s carbon emissions (碳排放),” Lei told CCTV News.
According to a 2020 UN report, the world’s e-waste will reach 74.7 million tons by 2030. That means it will increase by 100% in 16 years. This makes e-waste the world’s fastest-growing domestic (家用的) waste.
The report found that only 17.4 % of the world’s e-waste was collected and recycled in 2019. This means that gold, silver and other high-value materials were mostly burned or thrown away instead of being reused. It’s a waste of 57 billion dollars. E-waste can also be bad for the environment and people’s health. For example, one phone battery can pollute 600,000 liters of water.
China is now the world’s largest producer of e-waste, followed by the US, India and Japan, according to the UN report. However, tech companies are looking for different ways to solve the problem. For example, US company Apple built a robot called Daisy. It can take 200 iPhones apart within an hour and took the useful materials out. With Daisy, valuable materials can be pulled out more easily.

(2023·广东深圳·一模)You can hardly pay no attention to hunger. Hunger has many different causes, according to Dr. Monique Tello, from Harvard Medical School.
The first cause may be medical problems. “If a person always feels hungry and can’t put on weight or even loses weight, he should go to the hospital. For people with Type 1 diabetes (糖尿病), their body isn’t able to process sugar (分解糖). They eat a lot, but still lose weight and they feel terrible.” Tello said.
If it isn’t a medical cause, the problem could be in the head. It’s reasonable to be hungry every three to five hours. However, you are likely to eat often and a lot after watching food advertisements on TV or social media. Also, the more you eat, the larger your stomach gets, and the more you want to eat. A person’s state of mind can play a role, too. Research has shown that stress can increase levels of ghrelin (饥饿激素). Pressure and worry can send people looking into the fridge when they’re not truly hungry.
Another reason may be the lifestyle. Sometimes the reason why a person is always hungry is that he eats too little, exercises too much, or both.
So, what are the solutions First, reduce your time on watching food advertisements on TV and social media. In addition, say no to food if you’re not really hungry. Finally, change your diet by eating more food high in fiber (纤维), protein (蛋白质) and healthy fats.
1.According to Tello, what should you do if you are always hungry and getting thinner

2.What can you learn from Paragraph 3
A.You don’t feel like eating when you’re worried.
B.You will probably eat more when you feel stressed.
C.The smaller your stomach is, the healthier you will be.
D.The more food advertisements you watch, the less you eat.
3.How many solutions does the writer give in Paragraph 5

As their bodies flow from one exercise to the next, their minds are focused only on their deep, relaxed breathing.
Tai chi is part of national cultural heritage (遗产) which Chinese people take pride in. This ancient mind-body exercise is known as tai chi, and you don’t have to live in China to benefit from it. According to a survey in 2007, more than 2 million Americans are currently practicing tai chi.
Tai chi is called a mind-body type of exercise because it combines meditation, focused breathing, and physical movement. Because it’s also a low-impact (低强度的) exercise, it may be particularly suitable for older adults, but it’s a beneficial exercise for people of all ages.
Tai chi developed in China as a type of martial art. Today tai chi is used to develop fitness, meditation, balance, breathing, and well-being.
If tai chi is something you might like to try, look for a tai chi class near you. Keep in mind that training programs are different in many ways. You might want to ask around for a recommendation or try a class before you sign up. Ask potential tai chi instructors about their training and experience.
Tai chi is generally considered a low-risk exercise that is both safe and enjoyable. If you have any physical or medical problems, talk with your health care provider before starting any exercise program. And remember, although tai chi has many benefits, it can’t take the place of regular medical care.

During festivals and celebrations, Yingge dancers, each holding short sticks, dress in colorful costumes, jump up and down, and use props like masks, snakes, and drums to enhance their performances.

Chen Laifa, the coach of the Yingge Dance team, wants to show Yingge Dance globally. After a month of busy training, the team, consisting of experienced members with over 15 years of performance, was well-prepared for their international performance.
