_______ “锲(Qie)” means “the act of carving on the gold stone”. As for “而(Er)”, it is similar to “and” in English. When it comes to “不舍(Bu She)”, it simply means “never give up”.
Chinese culture values the great spirit of persistence. Lots of idioms express such meaning, among which is the one we’ll introduce this week—锲而不舍(Qie Er Bu She).
Literally, the meaning of this idiom lies in each character.
