On a clear sunny day on the Georgia coast, ecotour guide Rene Heidt leads her guests on her boat through a narrow waterway. Unbroken grasses reach overhead, and there’s no building, power line, or cell tower in sight. It’s a perfect location for visitors to view a nearby mudflat (泥滩), where roughly300,000 shorebirds, including the roseate spoonbill and the whimbrel, come to eat, rest, and nest every year.
Heidt has had a 15-year career as an ecotour guide and much of what she shares on the tours comes from her experiences. But more recently, the University of Georgia’s Coastal Awareness and Responsible Ecotourism (CARE) certification (认证) program has been designed to support ecotour guides like Heidt, helping improve the information they share with tourists. The program offers up-to-date educational material and training to ecotour guides and provides certification that confirms their devotion to preserving the habitats.
While providing knowledge about Georgia’s natural resources, the CARE program also discusses how to visit some sensitive areas responsibly. Now, when Heidt gives boating tours, she rows with a light touch, moving almost silently across the water. When she shares facts about wildlife with her guests, she doesn’t speak louder than whispers. Actually, it’s a skill Heidt must have perfected in her previous career. “The program changes the way I give tours. It helps me to be more mindful of a boat’s influence on the very thing we are trying to teach people about,” she recalled.
Getting trained through the CARE program also benefits Heidt’s business. According to Heidt, the program allows her to learn more about this environment. And that’s knowledge she passes along to her guests. “It’s a fantastic coast,” she says. “And it’s important to share its beauty with others to help them realize that it is worth protecting.”
24.Why was the CARE program launched
A.To offer the latest tour news. B.To qualify and recognize ecotour guides.
C.To give aid to local education. D.To share and publicize travel experience.
25.What may be the suggestion from the CARE program for visiting sensitive areas
A.Reasonably arrange travel routes. B.Save as much wildlife as possible.
C.Leave as little impact as possible. D.Fully respect local cultural customs.
26.What is Heidt’s attitude towards the CARE program
A.Doubtful. B.Tolerant. C.Uncertain. D.Favorable.
27.Which of the following is the best title for the text
A.Tending to Sensitive Coastal Areas B.Reaching out to Ecotourism Supporters
C.Backing up Ecotourism in Georgia D.Initiating a CARE Certification Journey
C
Before the crowd of students rounded the track, Coach Matthew Moore at Sandburg Middle School explained the objective of Monday’s practice — to get students adapted to running two miles continuously, something that was new to many of the middle-schoolers on the cross-country team, and thus improve their fitness. However, some students’ reason for circling the track was hanging out with friends as much as running.
The teachers and administrators at Sandburg Middle School already knew that. In fact, creating opportunities to make friends and build community was part of the reason Fairfax County Public Schools decided to introduce sports to its middle schools for the first time this year. This came as schools around the county were confronted with a mental health crisis.
In Fairfax County, about 17 percent of sixth-graders reported feeling stressed most of the time, and about 62 percent reported experiencing stress some of the time. Nearly 30 percent of sixth-graders reported feeling so sad or hopeless almost every day for two or more weeks in a row that they stopped doing usual activities.
Michelle Reid, the head of Fairfax County Public Schools, hopes athletics will boost mental and physical wellness in the district’s middle schools. “We’re in a mental health crisis in many ways, and also a fitness crisis in this county. It’s really important for students to be active and engaged in sports, and we’re just excited at that possibility,” said Reid.
Claire Brown, 13, joined the team at Sandburg to stay active. Running was not her “strong suit”, but she said she could already feel herself building endurance (耐力) and getting better. The encouragement from friends on the team has helped. “It’s just like everybody encouraging everybody,” Brown said. “‘You can do this. Push a little harder. You got there.’ That cheers me up.”
28.Why was Monday’s practice held in the school
A.To build students up. B.To train students for a race.
C.To teach running skills. D.To accustom students to the track.
29.What does the underlined part “were confronted with” mean in paragraph 2
A.Handle. B.Encounter. C.Survive. D.Prevent.
30.What do the figures in paragraph 3 indicate
A.The severity of an issue. B.The lack of physical exercise.
C.The importance of fitness. D.The extent of academic pressure.
31.What can be inferred from Brown’s experience
A.Promoting sports is urgent. B.Students need more encouragement.
C.Teamwork changes her greatly. D.The practice has far-reaching influence.
D
Electronic “noses” that can smell wildfires and warn emergency services are being equipped on a Yorkshire moor (高沼) by the National Trust. The introduction of the sensors followed seven fires this year on Marsden Moor, a site of special scientific interest, which destroyed nearly two square miles of moorland, releasing large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
Currently, most wildfires are picked up through passers-by noticing smoke, but by then they have often spread, causing huge damage. “We rely on people who spot the smoke and then report it to the fire service, but if it happens at night or in remote places, it’s much more difficult to tackle,” said Tia Crouch, Peat Ecologist at the National Trust. “Detecting fires in the initial stages is key.”
The National Trust has partnered with Dryad Networks, a technology company, to pilot the wildfire detection sensors. “Think of the sensors as an electronic ‘nose’. It is not looking for flames or smoke; it is actually smelling a fire,” said Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of Dryad Networks. The sensors are more advanced than traditional fire detectors in the home. They work by profiling the air, looking for hydrogen, carbon monoxide and other organic compounds (化合物) which indicate a fire. They can distinguish between burning smells created by a fire and emissions (排放物) from a truck, which helps avoid false alarms. When a fire is detected, the sensor sends out a warning with its location over a wireless network so that firefighters can respond quickly.
Dryad Networks is hoping to equip 120 million sensors globally by 2030 which could save 3.9 million hectares of forests from burning, preventing 1.7 billion tons of carbon dioxide entering the atmosphere. The National Trust is hoping that the sensors will protect the important species on the moor. “The moor is home for ground-nesting birds and many other wild species,” Miss Crouch added, “So early detection is vital for us to get these fires under control and reduce harm.”
32.What led to the use of electronic “noses” on Marsden Moor
A.Poor air quality. B.Scientific research needs.
C.Serious soil loss. D.Multiple wildfire incidents.
33.What is the problem with current detection methods
A.Workers are hard to find. B.Human errors often occur.
C.There are delays in discovery. D.They can’t detect remote areas.
34.How do the sensors work efficiently
A.By analyzing the air. B.By observing the smoke.
C.By accessing networks. D.By informing firefighters.
35.What can be expected of the sensors on the moor
A.Bringing some profits. B.Putting out harmful fires.
C.Detecting local wildlife. D.Benefiting the ecosystem.
第2节 (共15题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下列短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Between 25 percent and 40 percent of students experience some form of test anxiety throughout their academic career. 36 And although it’s expected that students feel slightly nervous before a high-risk assessment, test anxiety can become overwhelming to the point of causing significant underperformance.
Test anxiety can be shown in various ways, from physical symptoms like headaches and a rapid heartbeat to emotional symptoms such as fear and depression. This anxiety can disrupt students’ ability to concentrate, recall information, and perform well, creating a cycle of poor performance and increased anxiety. 37 Each student may experience test anxiety differently, with some showing more severe symptoms than others. Understanding these causes and recognizing the symptoms are crucial steps in addressing test anxiety effectively.
38 One of the more troubling outcomes of test anxiety is the attraction for students to take academic shortcuts, typically due to an overwhelming fear of failure and a lack of self-efficacy (自我效能). When students feel that they cannot succeed through their own efforts, shortcuts often turn into various forms of exam misconduct, breaking the educational process and academic standards of the institution. While misconduct is a serious result of test anxiety, educators can help ease this issue by creating a supportive environment that reduces the pressure to cheat.
Anxiety often originates from a sense of isolation—the belief that everyone else has everything under control. Discuss with your students the high frequency of test anxiety with statistics and anecdotes (轶事) with the aim to normalize and destigmatize (去污名化). 39
Building trust and harmony with students is essential. Educators can achieve this by being approachable, empathetic, and responsive to students’ needs. 40 As an instructor, let students know that you are available to support them academically and emotionally throughout their learning journey.
A.Test anxiety is the unsettled feeling students have before a test.
B.Besides, a lack of testing environment exposure can lead to anxiety.
C.Give constructive feedback on practice tests for students to find areas to improve.
D.This will help create a supportive atmosphere for students to discuss concerns freely.
E.Test anxiety can impact students’ academic performance, honesty and ethical behavior.
F.Encourage communication and assure students seeking help or clarification does not mean weakness.
G.Causes of test anxiety vary from high pressure to fear of failure and a poor test history.

I was in my room, unwilling to head to the community theatre with “my brother” Henry. He was just adopted by my parents recently. I was not in the mood for being onstage with him. “Kirstie, come here,” my mom called. Following her voice, I found her outside the bathroom, holding a wet book. She gave the book a shake. "Henry's book was in the bathtub. Did you put it there ” She glared at me, something she never did before Henry came to our home.
I didn't wet his book on purpose. Tears of hurt clouded my eyes. Worse still, she promised to buy him a new copy. My heart ached. Henry was stealing my mother's love. He was ruining my life. Meanwhile, Henry was just nearby, absorbed in working on a complicated rope knot (绳结)as usual. Why did a boy like him do the girly work Far from manly!
Soon, it was time to have to set off to the community theatre. As Henry walked ahead of us to the car, my mom took me aside and said in a low voice, "It's the first time for Henry to be onstage. Be kind to him, Honey. I nodded but sighed. Being kind didn't use to be hard. But after Henry moved in, everything felt different. The theatre used to be a special place for my parents and me. With Henry involved, it didn't seem so special anymore.
Finally, it was our stage time. My heart beat wildly. I forgot my annoyance at Henry for a while. As we kids lined up, ready to act out our short play, I realized how loosely I had tied the drawstring (束带)on my skirt. Sure enough, my skirt began to drop. Laughter from the audience could be heard, and even though I was wearing shorts under my skirt, I could feel my face burst into flames. However, my hands were full. If only someone could help me out!

第二节(满分25分)
Paragraph 1:
Right then, Henry sensed my embarrassment. Without hesitation, he made his way through the crowd, leapt to the stage and tied my skirt. In the blink of an eye, I found myself properly and neatly dressed again. Words failed to express my surprise and thankfulness. Casting an encouraging glance at me, Henry dashed back off the stage. Somehow, my feeling of panic turned suddenly to confidence. To my relief, the short play came to the end with an ear-splitting round of applause.
Paragraph 2:
After the performance, I found Henry and tapped him on the arm gratefully. Upon seeing me, Henry’s face lit up. “Congratulations”, he said brightly, taking a tentative step forward. A ringing silence fell. With a scarlet face, I summoned up all my courage to look straight into his eyes and said, “Thank you, Henry. Without your help, I wouldn’t have made it.” “That’s what families are meant for, you and Henry are supposed to help each other”, said mom with a beaming face. Hearing mom’s words, I was burning with guilt for my previous attitude. But at the same time, I felt greatly honored to have such a considerate and reliable brother.
