My granddaughter entertains herself outside a closed shop.I have no idea what day it is-I haven't known for 10 months. I have moved to a different city to provide child care so that my daughter can work.
Everything I observe these days is from a young child's eye view,I must be experiencing time and place in a way I haven't done before. l have let go of all the experiences we're missing because I'm focused on what matters to this child at any given moment. Puddles(水洼),obviously. Rocks held lovingly in her small fist the whole way home. Burying balls that have sailed over the tennis court fence and landed in the sandbox, and her face lighting up when they are dug up. Every single time.
My job is to wait and watch. Let her try things, comfort her when she falls down, and keep her safe. Bring snacks, push her on a swing, but mostly let her be. Tell her the names of all the things she points to. Take her hand when she offers it because she is in a slightly unfamiliar area. The two of us never hurry. This lifestyle change astonishes me every day.
Who knows how her new brain processes all this I have been forced by circumstance into the arms of the people I need to take care of me. Taking care of my granddaughter is a front. In fact, she gave me much more.
In March 2020,I lost my younger daughter.I can't say it was entirely unexpected. My younger daughter battled mental illness. She was only 27 years old. We humans are addicted to sugar. That makes sense, All animals need sugar to live. It's the fuel that powers our cells. So it's not surprising that we're born to want the sweet stuff.
Sugar stores the sun's energy like a battery. After a meal, your body breaks down foods into their building blocks. It uses some sugar for energy right away. The rest get stored for the body to break down later. It's a myth that sugar makes you extremely excited, but having a sugary snack can give you a quick burst of energy. That's because the sugar in sweet foods is easy for your body to turn into fuel. When you eat other kinds of foods, like vegetables,it takes longer for your body to break the sugar down.
These days it's easy to find sweet snacks.Sodas, candy, cakes and even foods that seem healthy, such as yogurt, can be packed with sugar, Food makers add sugar, because they know that to humans, sweet makes everything taste better,Americans eat about 20 teaspoons of extra sugar every day. That's way more than what is good for us.
Eating too much sugar can cause more than a stomachache. It can make people overweight, decay the teeth and even cause diabetes. However, experts aren't worried about naturally sweet foods-the problem is added sugar. So go ahead and enjoy sweet apples or even sugar-rich carrots that are also full of vitamins and other good stuff.
Even cake is great once in a while,as long as you don't overdo it, After all,no one wants life to be dull, And your body needs its fuel!

You've probably heard it suggested that you need to move more throughout the day,and as a general rule of thumb, that "more" is often defined(给……下定义) as around 10,000steps, With many Americans tracking their steps via new fitness-tracking wearables, or even just by carrying their phones, more and more people use the 10,000-step rule as their marker for healthy living. Dr. Greg Hager ,professor of computer science at Johns Hopkins, decided to take a closer look at that10,000-step rule, and he found that using it as a standard may be doing more harm than good for many.
"It turns out that in 1960 in Japan, they figured out that the average Japanese man, when he walked 10,000 steps a day burned something like 3,000 calories and that is what they thought the average person should consume so they picked 10,000 steps as a number," Hager said.
According to Hager, asking everyone to shoot for 10,000 steps each day could be harmful to the elderly or those with medical conditions that make it unwise for them to jump into that level of exercise, even if it's walking. The bottom line is that 10,000 steps may be too many for some and too few for others. He also noted that those with shorter legs have an easier time hitting the 10,000-stepgoal because they have to take more steps than people with longer legs to cover the distance. It seems that 10,000 steps may be suitable for the latter.
A more recent study focused on older women and how many steps can help maintain good health and promote longevity(长寿). The study included nearly 17,000 women with an average age of 72.Researchers found that women who took 4,400 steps per day were about 40% less likely to die during a follow-up period of just over four years, compared to women who took 2,700 steps. Interestingly, women in the study who walked more than7,500 steps each day got no extra boost in longevity.
32.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph l refer to
A. The phone recording.
B. The 10,000-step rule.
C. The healthy living.
D. The fitness-tracking method.
33.What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about
A. How many steps a Japanese walks a day.
B. How we calculate the amount of steps.
C. If burning 3,000 calories daily is scientific.
D. Where 10,000 steps a day came from.
34.Who will probably benefit from 10,000steps each day according to Hager
A. Senior citizens.
B. Young short-legged people.
C. Healthy long-legged people.
D. Weak individuals.
35. How many steps may the researchers suggest senior women take each day
A.4,400 steps.
B.10,000 steps.
C.2,700 steps.
D.7,500 steps.

Like it or not, there will be difficult times in our lives. You might lose your job, fail in your exams or have an illness. 36 Here are some ways to not lose hope during difficult times.
Have faith.
37 No matter how bad the situation is, things will turn out to be good in the end.Several years ago I failed to get my master's degree. It was a really bad experience.38It was of much better quality than my previous university.
Experiences like this strengthen my belief that having faith is important during difficult times.
Be around supportive people.
Going through difficult times is hard, and going through them alone is even harder. You need a group of positive people who can support you. 39 If you don't,my suggestion is to start looking for one. Don't wait until you need it,because it will be too late by then. You need the community before difficult times come.
Help others.
An additional benefit of being in a good community is that it encourages you to think about other people. It pushes you to help others and, therefore, think about other people.40As a result, your situation won't look as bad as it would be otherwise.Often the situation looks worse than it really is because we give too much attention on it.Shifting(移开)some of your attention away will put the situation in a better view.
A. Your community helps a lot.
B. I changed my attitude towards failure.
C.Whatever it is,it's important not to lose hope.
D.In this way you can take your focus away from yourself.
E.But I got a scholarship at an overseas university later.
F. You must believe that things will work out well eventually.
G. You should become part of a community that cares for one another.

The only life that Jeffrey had ever known was on the streets. Since his childhood, Jeffrey has been homeless. His mother, Rebecca, was abandoned by her husband, and they were forced to live in the streets without a way to cover living expenses and rent.
Soon afterward , his mom fell ill and passed away. As much as he tried, Jeffrey couldn't find a permanent job. Jeffrey only had a few clothes, blankets, and shoes, which he would push around in a rusty trolley. With no family or friends, he relied on his local shelter and soup kitchen, He would often ask the workers at a local burger place for their leftovers to survive.
One day,as Jeffrey was looking through the trash can outside the burger shop, he noticed a black object near the surface. He picked it up and realized it was a wallet. When he looked inside, he could recognize the I. D.picture.
The wallet belonged to Alan,a small business owner who stayed a few blocks away.He remembered asking Alan for money a few weeks ago and saying no. Alan said that he was seriously ill and saved every penny for his treatment to get better.
Alan's cards, driver's license, and cash were still inside the wallet, meaning he'd lost it by mistake. There was also a check for $3,000inside the wallet.“ This is life-changing money.I could get some fresh clothes, maybe rent a small apartment and finally get a job,” Jeffrey mumbled to himself.
Jeffrey knew he couldn't live with the guilt of knowing a man would suffer if he took the money for himself, Even though he initially felt that the check may have been a gift for him,he quickly realized that it was more of a test.

Jeffrey walked a few blocks to Alan's office.
Alan seemed surprised by the visit.“Hey,Alan.I'm not here to ask for any money. You dropped your wallet in the trash can.”As Jeffrey presented the wallet to Alan,he grabbed it and began weeping.“You're a lifesaver,Jeffrey. My operation was scheduled for tomorrow, and I thought I couldn't pay for it.”Alan said as tears ran down his face.To Jeffrey's surprise,Alan gave him a big hug.It was the first hug Jeffrey had received in years.
Alan promised to reward Jeffrey for his kindness once he recovered.
A few weeks later,Alan approached Jeffrey.saying that his operation had been a success and
that he had fully recovered. He helped Jeffrey find work as a waiter at a nearby restaurant.Within a year,Jeffrey was able to save enough money to start renting a small apartment close to work and began studying toward his goal. They have remained close friends ever since.Later, with joint efforts, they formed an initiative to help provide food for homeless children in the area.
