A squirrel(松鼠) that was nearly killed nine years ago continues to visit the family that saved, raised and later sent her into the wild.
In October 2009, a four-week-old squirrel was almost killed by an owl(猫头鹰). Luckily a wildlife rescue group saved her and left her in the care of Brantley Harrison and her family in South Carolina. The Harrisons often look after wild animals and later send them back into the wild.
The Harrisons named her Bella. With three other squirrels, Bella stayed in Brantley's care until spring. During her stay Bella acted similarly to the other squirrels. In April 2010, the squirrels were sent back into the wild. Bella, however, wasn't ready to leave her human family. Within days of being released, she started visiting them, looking for treats. Brantley said that the other squirrels also came back over the first few days, but within a week they stopped coming back and began to avoid people.
“Bella usually sits at the front door, waiting for someone to notice her. She comes almost every day,” said Brantley. Her husband John often brings Bella nuts as she is usually waiting by the door for him. Actually Bella has become a member of the family.
For nine years, she continues to visit them. Brantley said, “If Bella can teach at least one person to care for all living things, no matter how big or how small, then we have done what we have set out to.”

Have you ever tried making music with the glasses or bottles filled with water I am sure your favorite band hasn't. Experiment(尝试) with your own special sounds by turning glasses of water into instruments, make some cool music and find out how it works.
What you' ll need:
· 5 or 7 drinking glasses or glass bottles
· 1 wooden stick, such as a pencil
Instructions:
1. Line the glasses up next to each other and fill them with different amounts of water. The first should have just a little water, while the last should be almost full. The ones in between should have slightly more than the first.
2. Hit the glass with the least amount of water, listen to the sound, and then hit the glass with the most water, which makes a higher sound.
3. Hit the other glasses and see what sounds they will make. See if you can get a tune(曲调) by hitting the glasses in a certain order.
What's happening
Each of the glasses will have a different sound when you hit with the pencil. The glass with the most water will have the lowest sound, while the glass with the least water will have the highest. Small vibrations are made when you hit the glasses, and these vibrations create sound waves which travel through the water. More water means smaller vibrations and a lower sound.

When he was nine years old, American boy Milo Cress had a question: How many plastic straws(吸管) do Americans use every day
51 The boy tried to work it out himself. Through lots of research, Cress found out that Americans use about 500 million straws every day. In hopes of reducing plastic waste, he founded the Be Straw Free project in 2011.
Cress started the project in his hometown— Burlington, Vermont. He asked a local restaurant to stop offering straws for every drink order. 52 However, it would save money. And by doing this, the restaurant would cut down on its straw use by 50 percent.
For the years that followed, Cress tried to spread his project across the United States. 53 They stop providing the customer with a straw unless he or she asks for one. Last April, Seattle became the first American city to completely ban(禁止) plastic straws.
54 According to scientists, more than eight million tons of plastic ends up in the ocean each year. Plastic straws are especially terrible. They make it easy for people to get comfortable with single-use plastic.
After his project became popular, Cress took his findings on the road. He has spoken to tens of thousands of students around the world. 55
“Focusing(聚焦) on straws is one simple step we all could take,” Cress says. “And it makes me feel that I, as a kid, could make a difference, too.”

We have always been interested in the moon. 2,000 years ago people already knew it 61 around the earth and where it would be in the sky at different times of the year. At that time, everything about the moon was learned by watching it 62 in the sky.
When scientists could use telescopes to study the moon more closely, their ideas began to change. They could see the moon was made up 63 rock. Most scientists thought moon rocks would be different from those on the earth. This was because they believed the moon had once been a planet that was caught by the earth's gravity(吸引力) 64 of years earlier.
In 1969, moon rocks were finally brought to the earth and 65 . Much to their surprise, scientists found that, except for water, the moon and the earth were made of 66 same things. Once again new ideas were needed for this new information.
After years of study, most 67 now think that the moon was once part of the earth. They believe very early in its history, maybe 4 billion years ago, Mars 68 the earth. This sent billions of rocks into space around our 69 . These rocks slowly joined together and after many years became the moon. In the future, even though our ideas about the moon may change again, we will still be 70 in it.

When men started to search the sky, they saw a lot of things. In the universe, the earth seems to be just a small bit of dust. It is only a small planet, and travels around the sun. The sun with its planets travels in the Milky Way— our galaxy(星系). The Milky Way has about two hundred billion fixed stars like our sun and it is only one of about a hundred million galaxies in the universe.
Because of the distance of space, it is difficult to work out how far a star is. We use light years to describe the distance instead of kilometers. A light year means the distance light travels in one year. Our nearest galaxy is more than 900,000 light years away from the earth.
71. What does the sun travel with and where does it travel
The sun in the Milky Way, our galaxy.
72. What is the earth like in the universe
It is like .

Dear Mike,
In your last e-mail, you asked me about the Science and Technology Festival in our school. I'm glad to tell you something about it.
This activity is aimed at improving students' practical skills and cultivating students' interest in science. Students made preparations for the festival. We formed groups, chose programmes and then began the research and experiment. Finally it was the time to show the amazing science and technology experiment results. For instance thrown from high points, eggs were still unbroken. Bridge made of paper could bear people standing on it.
From this activity, I was amazed by the charm of science and technology. And I found my interest in science had improved.
I'm looking forward to learning about your school life.
Yours,
Li Hua
