一、阅读理解:共15题 每题2分 共30分
Many years ago the idea of disabled people doing sport was never heard of. But when the yearly games for the disabled were started at Stoke Mandeville, England in 1948 by Sir Ludwig Guttmann, the situation began to change.
Sir Ludwig Guttmann, who had been driven to England in 1939 from Nazi Germany, had been asked by the British government to set up an injury center at Stoke Mandeville Hospital near London. His ideas about treating injuries included sport for the disabled.
In the first games just two teams of injured soldiers took part. The next year 1949, five teams took part. From those beginnings, things have developed fast. Teams now come from abroad to Stoke Mandeville every year. In 1960 the first Olympics for the disabled were held in Rome, in the same place as the normal Olympic Games. Now, every four years the Olympic Games for the disabled are held, if possible, in the same place as the normal Olympic Games, although they are organized separately. In other years Games for the disabled are still held at Stoke Mandeville. In the 1984 wheelchair Olympic Games, 1,064 wheelchair athletes from about 40 countries took part. Unfortunately, they were held at Stoke Mandeville and not in Los Angeles, along with the other Olympics.
The Games have been a great success in helping the progress of international friendship and understanding, and in proving that being disabled does not mean you can’t enjoy sport. One small source of disappointment for those who organize and take part in the games, however, has been the unwillingness of the International Olympic Committee to include disabled events at the Olympic Games for the able-bodied. Perhaps a few more years are still needed to persuade those fortunate enough not to be disabled that their disabled fellow athletes should be included.

A.one of the organizers of the games for the disabled

Imagine shopping for clothes online and being able to run your hand across the screen of your computer or smartphone to feel the materials. That kind of simulation (仿真) technology could be available within the next five years.
"We’re talking about reinventing how computers interact (合作)with humans," said Bernie Meyerson, IBM Vice President. Extending our sense of touch is one of the innovations (创新),and IBM believes that will change the world in the next five years, according to the company’s annual "Five in Five" list.
Smart machines will also be able to listen to the environment and highlight (强调,突出)the sounds we care about most. For instance, an advanced speech recognition system will tell new parents why their baby is crying. This kind of thing is not possible today, but with an advanced enough system in the future, it’s actually possible.
In the near future, personal computers will be able to do more than recognize images and visual data. Their built-in cameras will be able to analyze features such as colors, and understand the meaning of visual media, such as knowing how to sort family photos.
Smart machines will also be able to smell. If you sneeze on your computer or cellphone, tiny sensors (传感器) in the machine will be able to analyze thousands of molecules (分子) in your breath. "It can give you an alarm and says, ‘Hey, you are probably sick and go to see your doctor immediately’," Meyerson said.
Mark Maloo is a computer science professor from Georgetown University. He hopes the advances will encourage more students to study science, technology, engineering and math, preparing them to play a role in future innovations. He believes there’s little doubt that advances in computer technology over the next five years will make what now seems like science fiction a part of our everyday lives.

Dealing with pain
One morning, I stepped out of bed and put my feet on the floor. Suddenly, a mean little man jumped out from under the bed and stabbed an ice pick (碎冰锥) through my left foot.
Figuratively speaking(打个比方说), yes.
I took another step and he stabbed it again. This went on all day. Step, stab, scream.
Over the next few days, I started limping (跛行).My whole body hurt. Even my hair.
I kept thinking that the little man would get tired of stabbing me and go pick on somebody else.
We often take things for granted until we lose them or they start to hurt.
My brother deals with pain every day. He’s also blind and suffers from cerebral palsy (脑瘫), and he needs a walker to walk. He doesn’t take much for granted. I had to wonder: What would he think about my foot
Finally, after a week of pain, I went to see a very nice foot doctor. The doctor studied my foot, took X-rays, shook his head, and said the little man’s name: Arthritis (关节炎).
I knew it well. I’d often heard it hissed angrily by my grandparents and parents, all attacked by Arthur’s ice pick when they got older.
"Wait," I said. "Doesn’t Arthur usually just pick on old people "
The doctor smiled, looking at my chart. "How old are you "
I gave him a look. "Never mind," I said. "Can you fix it "
"Well," he said, "we can try."
He listed several options and I chose the injection (注射).It didn’t hurt much. Not half as much as the ice pick.
That was yesterday. This morning, I awoke, took a few careful steps and … hallelujah!
It hurt just a bit, but no ice pick. I looked under the bed. No sign of Arthur. Maybe he was hiding in the closet, waiting for another day.
But for now, he was gone, and I was grateful.
My mind began to race with plans to do all the things I’d been putting off for days: pack, clean the house, wash my hair …
Then it hit me. Another stab. Not in my foot, but in my heart. I remembered that I hadn’t called my brother for a long time.
It’s easy to take some things for granted. But it should never be the people we love.
12.Why didn’t the author go to see the doctor for the first week
A.Because she thought it was too cold to step out of her room.
B.Because she believed that she could endure the pain like her brother did.
C.Because she was afraid that her brother would laugh at her.
D.Because she expected that the pain would gradually disappear.
13.Who had a disease that was different from the other people’s
A.The author. B.The author’s brother.
C.The author’s parents. D.The author’s grandparents.
14.After having the injection, the authorht_tp://www.wln!1!00.|com 未来脑教学云平台 .

Now there are more and more online learners. If you are new to the distance learning and curious about what to expect from an online course, you should endeavor to possess the following qualities firstly.
Be able to communicate through writing.
台* 17 So it is critical that learners feel comfortable in expressing themselves in writing.
Be self-motivated and self-disciplined.
With the freedom and flexibility of the online environment comes responsibility. The online process takes a real commitment and discipline to keep up with the flow of the process.
Be willing to "speak up" if problems arise.
Many of the non-verbal (非言语的) communication mechanisms that instructors use in determining whether learners are having problems (confusion, frustration, boredom, absence, etc.) are not possible in the online paradigm. If a learner is experiencing difficulty on any level (either with the technology or with the course content),he must communicate this immediately. 18
Be willing and able to commit to 5 to 10 hours per week per course.
Online learning is not easier than the traditional learning process. In fact, many learners say it requires much more time and commitment.
Be able to meet the minimum requirements for the program.
The requirements for online learners are no less than those of any other quality educational program. Successful learners will view online learning as a convenient way to receive their education, not an easier way.
Accept critical thinking and decision making as part of the learning process.
The learning process requires the learner to make decisions based on facts as well as experience. Assimilating information and executing the right decision require critical thoughts.
 19
Contribute your ideas, perspectives, and comments on the subject you are studying, and read about those of your classmates. Your instructor is not the only source of information in your course — you can gain great insight from your peers and they can learn from you as well.
Make sure you have a private space where you can study.
To have your own space where you can shut the door, leave papers lying around and work in peace is necessary. Sometimes you may like to study in the dining room or bedroom. 20
A.How to Be a Successful Online Learner
B.Otherwise the instructor will never know what is wrong.
