范文
Dear Mr Smith,
Thank you for your offer to host two of our students. The boys' names are Li Hua and Chen Wei. Here is something about them.
Li Hua is an open-minded and optimistic boy, and Chen Wei is very friendly but a little shy. Both boys love sports, and they also enjoy reading and listening to music. As it's the first trip to the UK, they both feel a little bit anxious. Li Hua is worried that he has trouble adjusting to British food, while Chen Wei is more concerned about not being able to communicate clearly with others. Li Hua is looking forward to learning more about the history and culture of the UK, and Chen Wei is eager to make some new friends and improve his English.
Once again thank you for your generosity.
Sincerely yours,

A recent study has shown that when it comes to the benefits of reading, reading itself is more important than reading content. Researchers have found that reading novels helps the brain develop in understanding others and imagining the world. They also have found that people who spend a few hours per week reading books live longer than those who don't read.
But how to build a habit of reading Like any habit, the trick is in figuring out what suits you. The hardest part about reading is actually picking up a book. You have to sit down, pick up a book and start reading. “I always have a book next to wherever I put my phone,” my friend Jimmy once told me. “So if I want to check my phone, I physically can see the book there. Nine times out of ten, I end up reading the book instead of using my phone for nothing.”
Another challenge is time, and in that case, audiobooks(有声读物) can be a good choice. Audiobooks are great for filling the mind while you're on the way to work, washing dishes or working out at the gym.
If you're still stuck on the way to developing a reading habit, the best way is to revisit your old favorite books to get your former reading pleasure. You should free yourself from the opinion that only important or educational books are worth reading. There's no shame in rereading the books that made you fall in love with reading in the first place. Restarting the practice of reading is a little like picking up painting. It takes some work to get into the best state, but once you begin, the results are beautiful and satisfying.

How to deal with your homework
Write it down. 1 Always be sure to write down all the homework so you won't forget anything.
Create a homework station. Find a place comfortable and quiet to do your homework. 2 It will take twice as long to get the homework done. Shut off your cell phone, log off (退出) your computer (unless you need it for your homework) and close the door.
Do homework as early as possible. Don't leave homework to the last minute. 3 The earlier you start your homework, the sooner you will finish! Do all your homework as early as you can, so you don't have a pile of (一堆) homework the next day.
4 Think about how long it will take you to complete homework for each subject. For example: English—ten minutes, science—ten minutes, math—forty minutes, history—twenty minutes.
Treat yourself. You can easily get tired by sitting through an hour or two of homework without stopping. Once you finish homework for a subject, take a small break. Just make sure it's short (no more than 15 minutes). Do not turn on the TV, or you'll never go back and finish your homework. 5
A.Use your time wisely.
B.Start as soon as you get home.
C.Start with your hardest homework.
D.Never do your homework in front of the TV.
E.You can take a walk or find something to eat.
F.After short breaks, return to finish the rest of your homework.
G.Keep a homework notebook where you record all your homework.

(二) 读后续写
阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
There is a story from many years ago of a primary school teacher. Her name was Rose.
On the first day of school, as Rose looked out over her new fifth grade class, her attention was immediately drawn to two boys, Mark and Charlie. Mark had a high energy that filled the room, his voice echoing even in casual conversations. He laughed loudest and answered questions with enthusiasm that was impossible to ignore. Charlie, Mark's partner, had a naughty grin and a twinkle in his eyes. Together, they were perfect.
While Mark would command attention with his tales, Charlie would comment cleverly, making the whole class burst into laughter. Rose could already tell that these two would keep her on her toes. She smiled to herself, though, ready for an eventful year ahead. She knew she had to find a way to channel their energy positively, turning their enthusiasm into a driving force for learning.
One day, Rose had a unique assignment for her students. She asked them to list each classmate's name on two sheets, leaving gaps between. Next, she instructed them to write down the nicest thing they could think of for each student. The assignment consumed the whole period. As they left, each student handed in their papers.
Over the weekend, Rose wrote down the name of each student on a separate sheet of paper, creating individual lists for every student. On Monday, she handed out the lists. Soon, happiness spread across the room. Mark, known for his naughty behavior, looked astonished. “I had no idea I mattered to anyone,” he whispered, visibly moved. Beside him, Charlie said similarly, “I never realized others thought so highly of me.”
No one ever mentioned those lists in class again. Rose never found out if they discussed them after class or with their parents, but it didn't matter.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
The atmosphere in the classroom shifted, especially Mark and Charlie. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
The atmosphere in the classroom shifted, especially Mark and Charlie. Mark started setting up study groups, and even volunteered to organize school events, where he was busy seeking opinions and looking for guidance. Charlie, on the other hand, emerged as a thoughtful contributor in discussions, showing insights that often left the class in awe. Their transformation was evident not only in their academic performance but also in their interactions. The lists had served as a mirror, reflecting the positive qualities others saw in them, qualities they had previously been unaware of.
On a bright afternoon years later, two gentlemen knocked at Rose's door, holding the lists. Rose, a bit puzzled, opened the door to see two familiar faces, now grown and matured. They were Mark and Charlie. “Miss Rose,” Mark began, his voice still holding that trace of energy she remembered, “we wanted to thank you personally. These lists were a turning point for us. Knowing we mattered and that we had value in others' eyes changed our paths.” Seeing the profound impact a simple classroom activity had left on them, Rose smiled.
