degree in Maths and Physics. When World War I began, Irène

In 1918, Irène became her mother’s assistant at the Curie Institute. In December 1924, Jean Frédéric Joliot-Curie joined the
Institute, and Irène taught him the skills required for his work.

born in 1927 and five years later their son was born.
Like her mother, Irène could keep a good balance between family and career. Like her mother, Irène was awarded a Nobel
Prize, along with her husband, in 1935. Unfortunately, also like

Edison was born in 1847 in Milan, Ohio, USA. At school, Edi-
son was often absent-minded, and his teacher did not think that
