(2021河北中考)
阅读下面短文,按要求完成6~10题。
What will the world of tomorrow look like Many people today
believe that technology is going to help solve some of the most
difficult problems we have on Earth today. New technology
may solve old problems, and it may also create new ones. No
technology is perfect. Each has advantages and disadvantages,
as these three examples.
When we dream about the future, many of us think that we will
be able to fly to the skies in our own personal flying car. We
could fly at 480 km per hour, avoiding traffic lights and busy
roads. However, if the cars become popular, there will be prob-
lems with traffic control.
3D printing is another new technology for the future. 3D print-
ers are already used to make life-size models of car parts, and
man-made body parts, such as ears. As we move into the future,
3D printing will change the way we make things and the way
we treat sick people. The disadvantage is that such a machine is
very expensive.
Finally, people are trying to build a robot suit (套装). This is an
electronic suit. It allows people to lift heavy objects and walk a
long way. It might help people walk again after an illness or an
accident. However, one disadvantage at the moment is cost.
Looking ahead, it is easy to imagine a future. We will be able to
fly to work, print out a new pair of shoes or lift a car above our
heads. Although there are some problems to solve before all of
this is possible, we can certainly dream of a world. In this
world, technology makes people's life easier and safer. It can
solve some of the most difficult problems we have today.

(2023江苏连云港中考)
Many of us have seen rainbows in the sky
once the sun starts shining again after it rains.
For us to see a rainbow, the conditions need
to be just right. We need some water drops in the air, like rain or
even fog, and we need the sun to be behind us and quite low to
the ground. This is because a rainbow is created by light passing
through water drops.
The light that comes from the sun seems white to us. But the
white light we see is made up of a mix of different colors.
When the light goes through a raindrop, these colors can sepa-
rate out.
Each of the colors in the rainbow has a different “wave-
length”(波长). Raindrops look like little balls. When light hits
one of these little balls of water, the light can change direction.
We call this “refraction”(折射). Each of the different wave-
lengths is refracted differently. If the light hits the raindrop at
the right place, the refraction separates the wavelengths out into
their different colors.
We are taught there are seven colors: red, orange, yellow,
green, blue, indigo and violet. But this isn't exactly true. Blue
and green are next to each other in the rainbow, which is why
we can see turquoise (a mix of blue and green). Brown is a mix
of red and green. But they aren't next to each other in the rain-
bow, so we don't see them mix to make brown.
We would never see black and white in a rainbow. Black is
what we see when there's no light at all. On the other hand,
white is a mix of all the colors together. When light is refracted
by raindrops, it separates the white light out, meaning it is no
longer white.
21.We can see a rainbow under the right conditions because

Wukong, Tiangong, Tianwen...Do you know where the names
of Chinese space programs come from
Wukong, the Dark Matter Particle Explorer satellite(暗物质粒
子探测卫星), is named after Chinese superhero Monkey King.
According to Journey to the West, the Monkey King has a pair
of sharp eyes which can tell the difference between good and
evil. The Wukong satellite is just as sharp-eyed as the Monkey
King to help scientists search for dark matter in space.
The name of the space station, Tiangong, means “Heavenly
Palace”. In Chinese myths, this is the home of Tian Di. Now
the Tiangong Space Station is a home for Chinese astronauts in
space. And China welcomes foreign astronauts to Tiangong so
that they can work together.
Tianwen, China's Mars missions(任务),gets its name from the
poem Tianwen by Qu Yuan. Qu Yuan is a well-known poet
from ancient China. In Tianwen, he had the questions about the
sky, stars, nature, myths and the real world, showing his hunger
for truth. Perhaps the Tianwen missions will end up answering
some of Qu Yuan's questions.
If you look into more names of Chinese space programs, you

the naming of Chinese space programs is taken very seriously.

Soon computers and other machines will be able to re-

cause everyone's eyes are different. So in the future you won't
have to remember a number when you want to use a machine or
take money out of a bank. You'll just have to look at the ma-
chine and it will be able to tell who you are.
The eye-recognition(眼睛识别) program has already been test-
ed in shops and banks in the USA, Britain, Spain, Italy and
Turkey. Soon this technology will take the place of all other
ways of finding out who people are.
However, scientists are also working on other systems. Ma-
chines will soon be able to recognize you from the shape of
your face! We already have machines that can tell who you are
from your voice.
Eye-recognition is better than other kinds. Your eyes don't
change as you get older, and don't get dirty like hands or fin-
gers. Even twins have different eyes. So the eye-recognition
program can be up to 94% correct, depending on how good the
technology is. However, some other programs may only be 5

mother do the housework. It can also help my father carry
heavy things and help me with my study. On weekends, I could
fly to the moon with my robot. That must be really great. And I
plan to dress it up just like a human. We can go to school to-
gether, and even travel together. When I am sad, it will show up
and tell jokes to make me happy. When I feel lonely, it will be
there. It will be exciting to have such a good friend. The robot
that I want to invent is like this.(共10张PPT)

When we 9 see an object in natural light, our brains recog-
nize its true color. Even if the object 10 in different kinds
of light later, our brains can still tell its true color. 11 call
this color constancy (色彩恒常性). For example, we know that
China's flag is red. When we see it during sunset or under pur-
ple light, we still know that it is red, even if it looks like a dif-
ferent color.
However, the color of a tennis ball is not as pure (纯的) as the
flag. It appears to be a mixture of yellow, a “warm” color,
and green, a “cool” color.
The US-based magazine says that when 12 brains try to
figure out what color the ball is, some people ignore (忽略)
cool colors like green, blue and purple. So they see the ball as
yellow. 13 ignore warm colors, such as red, yellow and or-
ange. They see the ball as green.

With this in mind, the research team started by recording plants’
sounds. They put sweet-pepper and tomato plants in sound-

trasonic microphones (超声波麦克风) were then put near the
plants, which can record between 20 and 250 kilohertz (千赫

were three groups of plants:One group wasn't watered for five
days;another group had some parts cut off and the last group
was untouched. The microphones caught sounds from 40 to 80
kilohertz from the first two groups. The sound, which was simi-
lar to the noise of popcorn popping, grew louder and louder
during the five days of water stress. They then began to become

Chemistry is usually thought to be more difficult than other
subjects, at least for the beginners. There are some reasons for
this idea. For one thing, chemistry has a very specialized vo-
cabulary(学科专用语汇). At first, studying chemistry is like
learning a new language. Also, some concepts(概念) of chem-
istry are hard to understand. However, with hard work and
careful study, you can finish this subject successfully—and
even enjoy it. Here are some suggestions to help you develop
good study habits and better understand the topics in the book:
Firstly, attend classes on time. Listen to your teacher and
take careful notes in class. If possible, always review the topics
you learn in class, and review your notes on the same day.
Secondly, think carefully whether you really understand the
meaning of a term or the use of an equation(方程式). A good
way to test your understanding is to explain a concept to a
classmate or someone else.
Thirdly, pay attention to things which have something to do
with chemistry in life. Watch or do experiments in class care-
fully.
Fourthly, question often and do not be afraid to ask your
teacher or classmates for help.
You will find that chemistry is much more than numbers, for-
mulas(分子式) and equations. It's often used in daily life just
like math and physics. Once you fall in love with it, you'll get
lots of fun.

Last week we went on a school trip to a science museum. Ms.
Liu, the guide, showed us around a smart home.
We started with the front door. Ms. Liu asked me to ring the
doorbell. I didn't notice the tiny camera that was fixed just
above it. After I pressed (按) the doorbell, the camera sent a
live video(视频直播) to the home-owners. “They can elec-
tronically open the door when they are not at home,” said Ms.
Liu.
The other thing I couldn't see on the door was a lock. “There
must be one,” I thought. At this time, Ms. Liu took out a smart
phone and put it against the door. And it opened. “Oh, the
key is on the smart phone.”
After entering the living room, I saw a computer on a table. By
using the computer, the owners can control how much energy is
used. In this way, they can manage their living cost.
One of the rooms I wanted to see most was the bedroom. To
my great surprise, the bed disappeared into the floor at the
touch of the smart phone. The window has a smart blind(百叶
窗). It can be raised and lowered with a voice.
As I left the smart home, I looked back on what I had just seen.
Scientists often say that these products are improving our life. I
think the technology in the smart home may make us lazier.
