To Karanth, everyone in every part of the world is born with a fundamental connection to nature. Growing up in Karnataka, she began accompanying her father into the wild at just two years old. But in her hometown, kids grew up with a negative perspective on wildlife. Elephants destroyed crops and sometimes people were badly injured or killed. Karanth discovered kids wouldn’t appreciate the fact that it’s the best place to witness extraordinary animals.
In 2017, a conversation with her friend Gabby shifted her mindset towards education. Within half a year, Karanth and Gabby had the first version of “Wild Shaale” on their hands. A program designed for students who come into frequent contact with wildlife, Wild Shaale aims to develop a genuine understanding of wildlife and wild spaces and move beyond wildlife tolerance to concepts of conservation and environmental issues. The conservation education program fills a gap in environmental learning.
While it is fortunate that a basic environmental education is supported by local government, Karanth believes the challenge lies in the quality of the curriculum and whether it’s delivered effectively and consistently. “You have to visualize what these schools look like. They may not have electricity — forget having computers, internet, iPads, or anything.”
Encouraging the students to find commonalities between themselves and the animals is the first step to changing perceptions and hopefully, behaviors. “It comes down to the same things: we need food; we need water; we need space. Then they start to understand why situations of conflict arise,” Karanth says. “But then how do you convince them not to get angry, not to act in a way that leads to harm That’s something we’re trying to work on. It’s not easy.”
4.What problem might Karanth’s hometown have faced
A.Human-wildlife conflict. B.Loss of wildlife habitats.
C.Overpopulation of elephants. D.Disregard for wildlife balance.
5.Why did Karanth launch the program Wild Shaale
A.To help students identify animals. B.To fill a gap in local education.
C.To change how students perceive wildlife. D.To publicize wildlife diversity.
6.What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about
A.The support to the plan. B.The barrier to the program.
C.The curriculum arrangement. D.The schools’conditions.
7.What is Karanth trying to achieve in the program
A.A shift in humans’ attitudes and behavior. B.A breakthrough in environmental studies.
C.Appropriate ways to end local conflicts. D.Approaches to changing animals’ behavior.

Most people in the Netherlands are convinced that their consumption patterns affect the environment. Many of them are looking for ways to reduce their footprint. However, the reality is more complicated, according to a research by Leiden PhD candidate Levon Amatuni, who studied car sharing and the reuse of phones. He used his background in computer science and mathematics to model and measure the benefits of such practices.
His research shows users of car-sharing platforms reduce their impact by only 3 to 18 percent — much less than 51 or 37 percent claimed in previous research. This is caused by so-called “rebound effects”, which are rarely accounted for by companies or even researchers.
For example, shared vehicles are replaced with new models more frequently than private cars. Additionally, the introduction of sharing schemes (方案) can encourage people to drive when they would have otherwise taken public transport. These rebound effects turn out to be highly influential. Amatuni also found users of sharing platforms don’t significantly reduce their driving. “And if they do, they often take buses and trains, which aren’t emission-free,” he says. While public transport is usually a better option, its impact is not negligible. So, this data must be included to make an accurate assessment.
Similarly, Amatuni discovered that a second-hand phone only offsets (抵消) about one-third of a new phone’s production. Rebound effects are the cause. If people couldn’t sell their old devices, they would use them for longer.
In other words, reuse both extends the lifetime of a device — by giving it a new owner — but also shortens it, as people tend to sell their newly bought devices sooner.
Amatuni doesn’t want people to conclude taking small steps towards sustainability is pointless. “Our intentions are still what’s most important,” he says, “but meanwhile, people need to realise there’re no easy fixes.” He recommends prioritising overall consumption reduction rather than continuing current habits while trying to make them more efficient.
8.What is the focus of Amatuni’s research
A.The ways of reducing people’s footprint.
B.The benefits of car sharing and phone reuse.
C.The damage of public transport to the environment.
D.The knowledge of computer science and mathematics.
9.What does the underlined word “negligible” in paragraph 3 mean
A.Small. B.Permanent.
C.Direct. D.Immediate.
10.Which of the following represents a phone rebound effect
A.Buying new phones often. B.Keeping old phones in use.
C.Taking care of new phones. D.Selling used phones cheaply.
11.What is Amatuni’s suggestion on promoting sustainability
A.Stop eco-friendly habits. B.Increase production efficiency.
C.Reduce total resource use. D.Seek easy solutions to eco-crisis.

A study conducted by Cornell University examined how the use of AI in conversations impacts the way people express themselves and view each other.
The researchers have found people have more efficient conversations, use more positive language and perceive each other more positively when using an AI-enabled chat tool.
However the group also found that when participants think their partner is using more AI-suggested responses, they consider that partner as less cooperative.
“I was surprised to find people tend to evaluate you more negatively simply because they suspect you’re using AI to help compose text, regardless of whether you actually are,” said Jess Hohenstein, the lead researcher. “This illustrates the continuous overall doubt that people seem to have around AI.”
For their first experiment, participants were asked to talk about a policy issue and assigned to one of three conditions: both participants can use smart replies; only one participant can use smart replies; or neither participant can use smart replies. Researchers found that using smart replies increased communication efficiency, positive emotional language and positive evaluations by communication partners. On average, smart replies accounted for 14.3% of sent messages.
But participants whose partners suspected of responding with smart replies were evaluated more negatively than those who were thought to have typed their own responses, consistent with common assumptions about the negative implications of AI.
“While AI might be able to help you write,” Hohenstein said, “it’s altering your language in ways you might not expect, especially by making you sound more positive. This suggests that by, using text-generating AI, you’re giving up some of your-own personal voice.”
Malte Jung, an associate professor, said, “What we observe in this study is the impact that AI has on social dynamics and some of the unintended consequences that could result from integrating AI in social contexts. This suggests that whoever controls the algorithm (算法) may have influence on people’s interactions, language and insights into each other.”
12.Which of the following statements does Jess Hohenstein agree with
A.AI always expresses in ways you expect.
B.Algorithm will never influence people’s insights.
C.Trust can be affected by using AI in conversation.
D.You will regain your voice by using AI in conversation.
13.How do the researchers draw their conclusion
A.By analyzing figures. B.By performing a survey.
C.By conducting experiments. D.By making comparisons.
14.How will a person feel about suspecting his partner’s using smart replies
A.Nervous. B.Uncomfortable.
C.Excited. D.Puzzled.
15.According to the passage, what are the unexpected consequences of using text- generating AI
A.Your language remains unchanged.
B.It doesn’t alter speakers’ insights into each other.
C.It makes the speaker sound more negative.
D.You are losing some of your personal style.
16.What is the passage primarily about
A.Methods of using AI in conversations. B.Efficiency of using AI in conversations.
C.Convenience of using AI in conversations. D.Impacts of using AI in conversations.

Nameless Faces
For about a year, my voyage to and from work each day included a ten-minute walk through the heart of downtown area. As with most large cities, the homeless population in my city often gathered on downtown corners, asking pedestrians for their spare change. Like many busy citizens, I had learned to ignore the nameless faces begging for money each day. My limited life experience had led me to one assumption — they were on the streets because they chose to be, probably due to alcohol or other similar things.
But who would have thought that the first person to change the way I viewed humanity would be a completely stranger My overall outlook on people took a 180-degree turn in less than ten minutes.
I remember how particularly cold the weather had been that day. I saw one man sitting against a building, holding a white cup in front of him. His shaky voice reached out to me as I hurried past.
“Spare some change ” he asked. “I would really appreciate it.”
I didn’t even bother looking up at his nameless face. “Sorry, no money on me today,” I made a lie as usual quickly, my eyes fixed on the ground ahead.
Just a few feet past him, I slipped on the icy pavement and fell hard. I lay there for several moments, stunned and wondering if I had broken my leg.
“Are you all right ” A voice came from above me. I looked up and it was the man I had just rushed past, concern written on his face. He reached down, trying to offer help. “You should get that checked by a doctor. This bus goes past the hospital,” he said, pointing to the bus sign above me.
I held his hand as I struggled to get to my feet. He held my arm as I hobbled to the nearby bus stop and quickly sat on the bench.
A mix of emotions swelled within me — gratitude for his help, embarrassment for my earlier ignorance, and anxiety about getting to work on time. For a moment, I met his gaze, unsure of what to say. Then, a sudden realization crossed his face.

1.续写词数应为150左右;2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

Embracing the Magic of Print Media
As the digital revolution sweeps through our lives, the appeal of screens and the convenience of online content have quietly caused print media to lose its charm. Peeking into our library, we’ll see newspapers gathering dust, like long-forgotten friends.
However, print media offers a unique reading experience. It encourages a slower and more reflective reading process, allowing readers to digest information more thoroughly. Besides, it endows readers with the feel of the pages, the ink smell, and the freedom to flip through pages at our own pace, which offers us an escape into another world and a deeper dive into knowledge.
So, let’s bring back the joy of turning pages! Together, we can foster a culture of curiosity and lifelong learning that surpasses digital screens.
范文2
In the digital era, high school students' interest in print media is fading. The allure of screens has altered our reading habits, sidelining traditional books and newspapers.
Yet, print media's value is immense. Reading from paper prompts a slower pace, encouraging deep reflection and analysis, enhancing concentration, comprehension, and empathy. It's also kinder to the eyes, easing the fatigue from prolonged screen exposure.
