Once I took the plane by myself. It was clear that the kid across from me was flying alone, too. She was singing a song to herself softly. Imagining if my two daughters were traveling alone, they might feel helpless and want others to talk with them, I decided to make conversation.
“What are you singing about, honey ” “Oh that,” she said, clearly happy to have someone to talk to. “Well, Grandma’s always surprised when I visit by plane. You know, how far you can come and how fast. I don’t think they had many planes when she was little. I mean, seriously, they had a horse. Anyway, Grandma would tell me that she’d think of me from time to time and say to herself, ‘I wonder where you are. I wonder where you are going.’ Then she’d always add, ‘Someplace important, I’m sure!’ So I made it into a song for us. I love my grandma.”
“Right now I’m on my way to Grandma’s house and I’m just singing that song to myself and thinking the same about her, ‘I wonder where you are. I wonder where you are going.’ That’s all.”
“Wow,” I said. “That’s really sweet. So, is it just you and Grandma or is your mom or dad coming out later ”
“Oh, everyone will be there and Mom’s s been there for two weeks already, making arrangements (安排).”
“Arrangements ”
“For Grandma’s funeral (葬礼).”
All of a sudden, I was like being hit in the stomach. It seemed something was stuck in my throat (喉咙) and I realized what she’d been singing, “I wonder where you are...” about her Grandma who’d been gone.
Sometimes when I see a family at the supermarket or ice cream stand, I’ll think of that kid and start singing her song — I wonder where you are. I wonder where you’re going. Someplace important, I’m sure.
4. Why did the author talk to the girl
A. He enjoyed her song. B. He would like to help her.
C. He wanted to kill time. D. The girl looked like his daughter.

D. The girl had a close relationship with her grandmother.
6. What does the underlined sentence “I was like being hit in the stomach” mean
A. The author was deeply surprised. B. The author didn’t feel well.
C. The author realized his impoliteness. D. The author had something in his stomach.
7. Which word can best describe the girl’s story
A. Exciting. B. Understandable. C. Touching. D. Humorous.

If you are planning on travelling, there are a few simple rules about how to make life easier both before and after your journey.
First of all, always check and double-check departure (出发) time. It is surprising how few people really do this carefully. Once I arrived at the airport a few minutes after ten. My secretary had got the ticket for me and I thought she had said that the plane would leave at 10:50. Surprisingly, the person at the departure desk told me that my flight was closed. Therefore, I had to wait three hours for the next one and missed an important meeting.
The second rule is to remember that even in this age of credit cards it is still important to have some local money in cash (现金). Once I arrived at a place at midnight and the bank at the airport was closed. The only way to get to my hotel was by taxi but because I had no dollars, I offered to pay in pounds instead. “Listen! I only take real money!” the driver said angrily. You can imagine how terrible I felt at that moment.
The third and the last rule is to find out as much as you can about the weather at your destination before you leave. I feel sorry for some of my workmates who travelled in heavy suits and raincoats in May, when it is still fairly cool in London or Manchester, to places like Athens, Rome or Madrid, where it is already beginning to get quite warm during the day.
8. When did the author arrive at the airport probably
A. At 9:55. B. At 10:00. C. At 10:05. D. At 10:50.
9. When the author found he had no dollars to pay the taxi driver, he ________.
A. asked the driver to give him a free ride B. offered to pay in pounds
C. gave the driver some fake (假的) money D. tried to pay by credit card
10. Generally, in May the weather in London is ________.
A. warm and dry B. cold and dry
C. hot and wet D. cool and rainy
11. What is the text mainly about
A. How to make life easier. B. How to be well prepared for a trip.
C. How to enjoy ourselves on a trip. D. How to schedule our trip.
D
Made-in-China products have made their mark during the Paris Olympics. According to the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee, 80 percent of the Phryges, the mascots (吉祥物) of the Games, are produced in China. Chinese producers are also controlling the market for sports products such as cheering sticks and fan scarves.
The top quality of made-in-China products received an unexpected praise from a Western reporter covering the Games. The reporter, who still uses a backpack for reporters from the 2008 Beijing Olympics, thought highly of the product. His comments have led to great sales for the Chinese related products.
The Summer Olympics also saw fresh moves by several Chinese brands (品牌) to offer the world a taste of the rich Chinese culture. Last month, HEYTEA, a leading brand of Chinese new-style tea, made its Paris first appearance with a pop-up store designed as a traditional tea house. The store worked mainly to make Chinese tea culture known through creative tea drinks. China's fashionable toy maker Pop Mart opened a store by the famous Louvre Museum to share art and fun. “The Olympics is a good chance to show ourselves to the world.” said Gu Yujia, vice president of HEYTEA. “The sales are good and the buyers really like us.”
Chinese local governments are also strengthening their city-branding efforts this year, which marks the 60th year of the building of diplomatic (外交的) relations between China and France, as well as the China-France Year of Culture and Tourism.
Guizhou, a beautiful province in southwest China that gained much attention in the sports world with exciting football games played by villagers, held an eye-catching photo exhibition at some subway stations in Paris.
“Walking in Paris, one can run into China countless times,” the country's tourism office in Paris said.
12. Why is the Western reporter mentioned in paragraph 2
A. To explain he dislikes wasting things. B. To present his love for China is deep.
C. To describe he is expert at reporting. D. To show made-in-China products are great.
13. What is the main purpose of the HEYTEA store
A. To share art and fun. B. To spread Chinese culture.
C. To earn more money. D. To experience the Olympics.
14. What can be learnt from the passage
A. People in Paris expect to visit China.
B. People in Paris are interested in sports.
C. Things about China are almost everywhere in Paris.
D. Tourism builds a bridge between China and France.
15. What is the suitable title for the text

【答案】A Teacher-Student Badminton Match
Aimed at making our after-class activities more colorful and encouraging more people to do sports/take exercise, our school held a teacher-student badminton match at 4 pm last Friday in the gym, which ended up with a narrow victory of the student team.
Teachers and students from three grades got involved in the match actively. The match was divided into five sets. Whichever team won three sets first would be the winner, so the representatives tried their best to beat their opponents. So close was the game that it was hard for one team to beat the other.
The match turned out to be an enormous success with 3:2 in students’ favour. Not only did it bring a lot of joy to us but also it strengthened the relationship between students and teachers.
