At the age of 16, I lived with my parents at an institute 18 miles from Durban with no neighbors around. One day my father needed a ride to town for a meeting. Meanwhile, my mother gave a shopping list and my father asked me to get the car serviced. When I dropped my father off that morning, he said, “I will meet you here at 5:00 p. m., and we will go home together.”After hurriedly leaving my car to be serviced, I went straight to the nearest movie theater. I got so engrossed that I forgot the time. By the time I ran to the garage, got the car and hurried to where my father was waiting for me, it was almost 6:00p. m. He anxiously asked me, “Why were you late ” I was so ashamed of telling him I was watching a movie that I said, “The car wasn’t ready, so I had to wait,” not realizing that he had already called the garage. When he caught me in the lie, he said, “There’s something wrong in the way I brought you up that didn’t give you the confidence to tell me the truth. In order to figure out where I went wrong with you, I’m going to walk home 18 miles and think about it.”
So, dressed in his suit and dress shoes, he began to walk home in the dark on mostly uneven, unlit roads. I couldn’t leave him, so for five-and-a-half hours I drove behind him, watching my father go through this great pain for a stupid lie that I told.
I decided then and there that I was never going to lie again. I often think about that experience and wonder, if he had punished me the way we punish our children, whether I would have learned a lesson at all. I don’t think so. I would have suffered the punishment and gone on doing the same thing. But this single action was so powerful that it is still as if it happened yesterday.

A. To get the car serviced. B. To purchase some goods.
C. To enjoy a popular movie. D. To give his father a lift.
25. What did the father decide to do after finding the author lying
A. Ignore the author’s behavior. B. Think about his parenting.
C. Blame the author severely. D. Punish the author immediately.
26. How did the author feel when he drove behind his father
A. Regretful. B. Annoyed. C. Indifferent. D. Confused.
27. What can we learn from the text
A. Do not do to others what you don’t like to do.
B. It’s better to lie than to admit a mistake.
C. Non-violence is powerful in teaching a lesson.
D. White lie is the best comfort.
C
More than 10 million Chinese cultural relics have been lost overseas, most of which were stolen and illegally shipped out of China during the times of war before 1949. About 1.67 million pieces are housed in more than 200 museums in 47 countries, which accounts for 10 percent of all lost Chinese cultural relics, and the rest are in the hands of private collectors.
Most of these treasures are owned by museums or private collectors in the United States, Europe, Japan and Southeast Asian countries. There are more than 23,000 pieces in the British Museum, most of which were stolen or bought for pennies more than 100 years ago.
The major method to recover these national treasures was to buy them back. In some cases, private collectors donated the relics to the government. Also the government can turn to official channels (渠道) to demand the return of relics.
In 2003, a priceless bronze pig's head dating from the Qing Dynasty was returned to its home in Beijing after it was removed by the Anglo-French Allied Army over 140 years ago. Macao entrepreneur Stanley Ho donated 6 million yuan to buy it back from a US art collector and then donated it to the Poly Art Museum in Beijing.
Although buying-back is the most feasible way to recover the lost treasures, limited funding is always a big headache.
In recent years, the Chinese government has improved efforts to recover the precious cultural relics lost overseas. It has started a national project on the recovery of the treasures and has set up a database collecting relevant information. It has signed several international agreements with many countries on this matter, and is also looking for international cooperation to recover the relics by working closely with several international organizations.

A. It was made in the Ming Dynasty.
B. It is housed now in the Poly Art Museum in Beijing.
C. It was donated by the French government to China.
D. It was contributed by the Anglo-French Allied Army over 140 years ago.
30. We can infer from the passage that ________.
A. the Chinese government has done a great deal to recover the lost cultural relics
B. a lot of countries have returned the lost cultural relics to China for free
C. China has adequate money to buy all the cultural relics back
D. China is ready to set up a database to collect information about the lost cultural relics
31. The underlined word “feasible” in Paragraph 5 can be replaced by “________”.
A. careful B. challenging C. popular D. workable

The Hotel Of The Famous
What would your life be like if you were Albert Einstein What clothes would be in your wardrobe if you were Marilyn Monroe Or Madonna
Now you can discover the answer to all these questions and many more at the Fame Hotel in California. Ten miles outside Los Angeles, the Fame Hotel promises to answer the question "What if ". When you check into the hotel, you choose a room. Each room has a name; Clint Eastwood on the second floor and Elvis Presley on the third. The Fame Hotel has 32 rooms, of which most are named after stars of Hollywood or music. But there are also famous writers (Mark Twain and Agatha Christie) and even some scientists and sports stars, such as Mike Tyson.
When you enter the room, you enter the life of that person. There are pictures everywhere. The hotel’s owner has tried to fill the room with objects, clothes, and even food that he thinks the stars would have liked. Marilyn Monroe's wardrobe is full of beautiful white dresses, Albert Einstein doesn't have any socks in his wardrobe because the real Einstein never wore them! If you choose Mike Tyson's room, you can practice boxing in one corner of the room. And there's even a skipping rope too!
I spoke to one guest staying in the Elvis Presley room. "I love this hotel," he said to me. "I wanted to know 'What would Elvis Presley eat for breakfast ' and now I know". That guest eats pancakes and strawberry ice cream every morning, just as Elvis liked to do. At the next table, the Einstein room's guest is eating cabbage soup!
The company plans to open another Fame Hotel in New York next year and there are plans to expand into Europe too. I look forward to staying in the Winston Churchill suite in London!

Text 10
Leo, an 18-year-old Malaysian, has spent 10 days wandering through Singapore because he was too shy to ask for directions after becoming unable to find his way to the apartment building he was staying in.
Leo reportedly traveled from Malaysia to Singapore last month in order to look for work, and was sharing an apartment in the island city with a friend who had been working there for some time. On the day of his disappearance, Leo's roommate gave him $37 for food before leaving for work , as the 18-year-old only had Malaysian bills. He used some of that money to get some lunch at a nearby cafe, but didn't bother keeping an eye out for any stranger to help him find his way back, and upon leaving the cafe, he quickly realized that he didn't know how to get back to his friend's apartment building. But thankfully, with the help of a policeman, he returned to his apartment at last.
