Now look for more sentences with this structure in the interview.
The first group uses the -ing form as attributive while the second group uses attributive clauses.
Because the sentences using the -ing form as attributive are more concise and colloquial.

1 动名词(短语)作定语
表示被修饰词的属性、作用或用途,作“供……用”讲,相当于介词 for 短语,常置于被修饰词前。
a swimming pool =a pool for swimming 游泳池
a reading room =a room for reading 阅览室
a washing machine =a machine for washing 洗衣机
-ing as attributive
2 现在分词(短语)作定语
表示被修饰词的动作或状态,被修饰词与现在分词之间是主动关系,相当于一个定语从句。单个的现在分词作定语时,常放在被修饰词前;现在分词短语作定语时,则放在被修饰词后。
a sleeping baby = a baby who is sleeping 正在睡觉的婴儿
The boy standing by the window is my classmate.
= The boy who is standing by the window is my classmate.

3 如果动词-ing形式与被修饰词是被动关系, 就用它的被动形式, 即being done。
being done通常表示“正在被做”, 常作后置定语。

□ Learning to learn
When you visit a place for the first time,a map is a great help for you to know the place better. An online map on your mobile phone is convenient. But if you don’t have net connection when you travel,a paper map is still an option. You would be able to find one in your hotel or at the local tourist information centre. When someone is giving you directions,try to mark your destinations and draw the routes to them on the map.

Remember the functions of v-ing.
