一、阅读理解:共15题 每题2分 共30分
When I wake up on summer mornings, I know I am going to my favorite place to volunteer and make a difference in someone’s life just by being with him or her — a summer school for autistic (孤独症的) children.
By helping the kids read or do math homework, I am not only teaching important skills but also helping them feel like any other kid. There are many wrong ideas about autism(孤独症).The kids I work with can think and feel. They need help only in certain areas. Of course, each kid is special. For example, some kids like to draw, and others like to sing.
At school, the kids learn through about 20 activities. These activities can help them learn skills they will need later in life.
The very first day I volunteered, a boy came up to me, put his hand on my shoulder, and said "Hello". From then on, I knew I could make a difference. Another boy loved to have me read books that can help him learn to read. Sometimes he could be encouraged to read a few words or sentences. Finally, one day during the reading practice, he read nearly 220 words himself!
The summer school is also a place for fun. Last summer, bagpipe(风笛) players came to perform. Most of us had our hands over our ears because they were so loud. When they asked for a volunteer from the audience, one girl raised her hand as high as she could, appeared on stage, and even tried the bagpipes in front of everyone.
Through these experiences, I realize that the challenges these kids face do not stop them from doing many amazing things. I’m teaching them, but they are teaching me more.
1.According to Paragraph 2, many people think autistic kids .
A.can’t read or do math homework B.don’t have important skills
C.don’t play with other kids D.can’t think or feel
2.The author believed he could make a difference when .
A.a boy greeted him actively B.a boy let him read books
C.a boy could read by himself D.a girl tried the bagpipes
3.What does the author mainly talk about in the passage?
A.His teaching experience in a summer holiday.
B.How to make a difference in other people’s lives.
C.His experience as a volunteer in a special summer school.
D.Autistic children’s hard life.
4.Which one is NOT true?
A.We must keep away from the autistic children because they have serious disease.

C.The autistic children can teach me so much.
D.The autistic children also have many hobbies.

Modern inventions have speeded up people’s lives amazingly. Motor cars cover a hundred miles in little more than an hour, aircraft cross the world a day, while computers operate at lightning speed. Indeed, this love of speed seems never-ending. Every year Motor cars are produced which go even faster and each new computer boasts(自夸) of saving precious seconds in handling tasks.
All of these save time, but at a price. When we lose or gain half a day in speeding across the world in an airplane, our bodies tell us so. We get the uncomfortable feeling known as jet lag; our bodies feel that they have been left behind in another time zone. Again, spending too long on computers results in painful wrists and fingers. Mobile phones also have the danger according to some scientists; too much use may transmit harmful radiation into our brains, a consequence we do not like to think about. However, what do we do with the time we have saved? Certainly not to relax. We are so accustomed to constant activity that we find it difficult to sit and do nothing or even just one thing at a time. Perhaps the days are long gone when we might listen quietly to a story on the radio, letting imaginations take us into another world.
There was a time when some people’s lives were devoted simply to the cultivation of the land or the care of cattle. No multi-tasking there; their lives went on at a much gentler pace, and in a familiar pattern. There is much that we might envy about a way of life like this. Yet before we do so, we must think of the hard tasks our ancestors faced; they farmed with bare hands, often lived close to hunger, and had to fashion tools from wood and stone. Modern machinery has freed people from that primitive existence.
9.The new products become more and more time-saving because .
A.our love of speed seems never-ending B.time is limited
C.the prices are increasingly high D.the manufacturers boast a lot
10.What is the author’s attitude towards the modern technology?
A.Critical. B.Objective. C.Optimistic. D.Negative.
11.What does the passage mainly discuss?
A.The present and past times. B.Machinery and human beings.
C.Imaginations and inventions. D.Modern technology and its influence.
【答案】
9.A
10.B
11.D
【解析】
9.细节理解题。根据第一段中的"Indeed, this love of speed seems never-ending"可知,新产品更加节省时间,是因为人们对速度的追求是无止境的。故选A。

Recently, my friend John lost his wife Janet. For eight years she fought against cancer, but in the end her sickness had the last word.
One day John took out a folded piece of paper from his wallet. He found it, when he cleared some drawers at home. It was a small love letter Janet had written. The note could look like a school girl’s scrawls (潦草的笔记)about her dream guy. But the small letter was written by a woman who had had seven children, a woman who fought for her life and who probably only had a few months left to live.
It was a beautiful recipe (秘诀)for how to keep a happy marriage together.
Janet’s description of her husband begins thus, "Loved me. Took care of me. Worried about me."
John showed great consideration for Janet. Sometimes he came home in the evening to find her in low spirits. In no time he got her into the car and drove her to her favorite restaurant.
"Helped me when I was ill," the next line reads. Perhaps Janet wrote this while the cancer was in the stage where everything was — almost — as it used to be, before the sickness broke out, and where it doesn’t hurt to hope that everything is over, maybe forever.
"Stood by my side."
"Made sure I had everything I needed," she continues to write.
After that she turned over the paper and added, "Warmth. Humor. Kindness. Thoughtfulness." And then she writes about the husband she has lived with and loved the most of her life, "Always there for me when I needed you."
The last words she writes sum up all the others, "Good friend."
I stand beside John now, and cannot pretend to know how it feels to lose someone who is as close to me as Janet was to him.
"John," I ask."How do you stick together with someone through 38 years — not to mention the sickness? How do I know if I can bear to stand by my wife’s side if she becomes sick one day?"
"You can," he says quietly."If you love her enough."
12.How did John get the love letter?
A.Janet sent it to him when she was a girl.
B.John cleared the drawers at home and found it.
C.Janet hid the letter in his wallet before her death.
D.The author handed it over to John after Janet’s death.
13.In Janet’s mind, her husband was a man.
A.humorous B.brave C.thoughtless D.broken-hearted
14.In the author’s eyes, Janet’s love letter is .
A.a song of praise B.the secret of a happy marriage
C.the will of Janet D.a concern for John
15.When Janet felt down, John comforted her by .
A.standing by her side B.telling her funny stories
C.taking her to eat out D.driving her around in the car

【答案】At present an increasing number of teenagers are taking part in TV talent shows, on which students’ opinions are different. Some think that it is a stage to show their talents of art, contributing much to their social experience and self-confidence. What’s more, it’s good for their overall development.
However, other students hold the different idea that the teenagers are just imitating others rather than showing something original. Besides, some are such "star dream" followers that they can’t put their heart and soul into their study, thus affecting their study badly.
In my opinion, important as study is, it’s not the only thing we can do. It is preferable to explore our abilities in other areas besides study.
