阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Leonardo da Vinci (1452 — 1519) not only left behind notebooks filled with scientific observations and illustrations, but also displayed his talent in painting.
Lady with an Ermine
Years before Leonardo da Vinci produced the Mona Lisa, he made another important painting. Entitled Lady with an Ermine (1489 — 1491), this oil painting shows a young woman holding an ermine in her arms. While this painting is an excellent display of his interest in realism, the ermine is used as a symbol with meanings related to the subject of the portrait.
The Last Supper
Since its completion at the end of the 15th century, the Last Supper (1495 — 1498) has attracted audiences with its mysterious subject matter. The buyer, Ludovico Sforza, asked him to paint Jesus’ final meal as described in the Bible. Interestingly, Leonardo chose to illustrate the moment Jesus tells his followers that one of them will sell him out, placing much of the painting’s focus on the figures’ individual expressive reactions.
The Mona Lisa
Arguably the most visited painting in art history is the Mona Lisa (1503 — 1506). The painting features a female figure—believed by most to be Lisa Gherardini, the wife of cloth and silk businessman Francesco Giocondo. She is shown seated in a room with at least one open side. Behind her is a landscape imagined by the artist and painted using sfumato, a technique resulting in forms without lines or borders, in the manner of smoke.
Virgin of the Rocks
Although there are two versions of Virgin of the Rocks (1483 — 1486), the earlier one, which is housed at the Louvre, is considered to be painted entirely by him. Like his other paintings, it employs sfumato technique to portray the religious figures in the painting.
21. What can we know about Lady with an Ermine
A. It is based on a religious story. B. It was not drawn by Leonardo da Vinci.
C. It is mainly a realistic painting. D. It was completed after the Mona Lisa.
22. For whom was the Last Supper painted
A. Johannes Vermeer. B. Lisa Gherardini. C. Francesco Giocondo. D. Ludovico Sforza.
23. What do the last two paintings have in common
A. They adopt the same painting technique. B. Both of them have more than one version.
C. There are obvious borders in the paintings. D. Their subjects are about religious figures.
B
There’s always a person in the group chat, whose contribution to the small talks remains minimal, if not zero. That person is me.
As long as I can remember having a smartphone in my hand, I’ve been a terrible replier. The phrase “Sorry, I missed this.” has quickly become my standard response. When a new group chat is created, the members will unavoidably laugh at my inability to respond to a simple question in a matter of hours.
I’m not a horrible replier in my life. In fact, I pride myself on my swift response when it comes to emails from my co-workers or phone calls from my family.
To be honest, I have tried to follow up the group chats. I’ve even gotten to a point where I set aside 15 minutes in the afternoon purely to respond to friends’ texts. But even then, by the time I’ve responded to their messages, many have already messaged back, and then I mentally consider them non-urgent,
I want to stress I do love my friends and I am grateful to be included in all of the group chats. I simply find it overwhelming to keep up with the never-ending messages throughout the day. I sometimes feel like throwing my phone into a lake, lying on the floor and staring at a wall.
I recently asked my friend Tully how she felt about my texting habits. She’s that kind of friend you can always rely on to give you the non-sugar-coated truth. “You take three to five business days to respond if we’re lucky,” she told me. “But when we do eventually get an answer from you, you always show up. You never cancel and you’re usually the one driving 40 minutes across town to see us. So we can handle the group chat radio silence in return for that kind of friendship. I think we have reached a new level of love and companionship where we have accepted how bad you are at replying and chosen to embrace it.”
On hearing her reply, I breathed a sigh of great relief!
24. Which of the follow will take a long time for the author to reply
A. Emails related to work. B. Greetings from social media.
C. Phone calls from his wife. D. Urgent texts sent by his friends.
25. Which is closest in meaning to “overwhelming” underlined in paragraph 5
A. Amusing. B. Embarrassing. C. Stressful. D. Helpful.
26. What does the author think of Tully
A. Annoying. B. Sweet. C. Outgoing. D. Frank.
27. What does the author mainly talk about in the text
A. His bad texting habit. B. The importance of small talks.
C. Ways to gain friends’ trust. D. Harmful effects of group chats.
C
With existing technology, the United States could reach net-zero emissions of greenhouse gases by 2050, according to a new study led by Princeton University researchers. The research lays out five pathways for the US to achieve that goal in the next 30 years: E+ (electrifying100% of buildings and transportation), E— (electrifying at a slower rate and using more liquid gas), E—B+ (using much more biomass energy), E—RE— (depending heavily on the expansion of power plants with CO2 capture and nuclear power), E+RE+ (relying 100% on wind, solar and H power).
All of the pathways are found to involve annual spending within 4—6% of gross domestic product (GDP). Because all five pathways can take the country to net-zero emissions, the researchers don’t recommend which is the best or most likely to be adopted. But the researchers conclude that most of the investment involves clean electricity and electrification across all aspects of society and that wind and solar power, along with the electrification of buildings and cars, must grow rapidly this decade. They also suggest the 2020s must also be used to continue to develop technologies, such as those that capture CO at natural gas or cement plants or those that turn water into H2, so that they will become affordable in the 2030s.
Over the last decade, there has been a lot of research from universities, companies and states investigating whether net-zero is technologically possible and what it might cost to get there. But a missing piece has been detail that could inform local officials and authorities responsible for making decisions about important areas for the transition. This research has finally provided the missing piece and will make a net-zero future vivid and real for the decision-makers.
In the study, the researchers stress, “We have the technologies we need to get started. They have to be adopted much more rapidly than they are today.”
28. Which depends totally on wind, solar and H2 power
A. E—. B. E—B+. C. E—RE—. D. E+RE+.
29. What do the researchers say about the five pathways
A Some of them are much less costly.
B. E+ is most likely to be adopted in the US.
C. Clean electricity and electrification are the key.
D. They need future technological breakthroughs.
30. Which of the following can best describe the new study
A. Theoretical. B. Applicable. C. Unscientific. D. Impractical.
31. What is the author’s main purpose in writing the text
A. To introduce a new study. B. To review the possible pathways.
C. To call for immediate action. D. To suggest net-zero emission solutions.
D
With complex production processes and regional traditions it’s impossible to define lacquer ware in simple terms. Put simply, lacquer ware refers to anything painted with lacquer on the surface.
Lacquer is a natural paint harvested from a poisonous tree that is native to China, Japan and Korea. Once dried, it is remarkably resistant to water, acid, and, to a certain degree, heat. It is collected between June and October. A worker can generally handle 400—500 lacquer trees and gather up to 75kg in total per year.
After the milky liquid is collected, it is gently heated to remove water and impurities. Purified lacquer can then be applied to the surface of nearly any object made from wood, bamboo, cloth or metals. Once coated with a thin layer of lacquer, the object has to be placed in a warm place to dry. Usually, lacquer ware requires thirty or more coatings.
While items covered with lacquer have been found in China since the New Stone Age, lacquer ware with complex decoration made its first appearance during the Warring States Period (475—221 BC).
Since then, lacquer ware as an art form has developed along two distinct paths in China: surface decoration and lacquer carving. Surface decoration usually takes the form of painting. Carved lacquer ware, which combines the skills of painting and carving, is a unique Chinese achievement in lacquer art and is also lacquer art in its purest form.
During the Tang Dynasty, lacquer decoration was introduced to Korea and Japan, where it took on a life of its own. In Korea, najeonchilgi became the dominant decorative technique and it has continued as such to the present day. Known for its beautiful changing lights, Korean lacquer ware is coated with lacquer mixed with shiny mother-of-pearl powder (珍珠母粉末). On the other hand, a technique called maki-e has developed to the highest degree in Japan, which either mixes gold and silver in powder to produce gold or silver lacquer, or spreads them over the lacquer surface to create a gold or silver effect.
32. What can be learned about lacquer
A. It can protect items coated with it. B. It is a kind of man-made paint.
C. It can be grown all over the world. D. It has to be harvested in autumn.
33. What is the third paragraph mainly about
A. Types of lacquer ware. B. The difficulties of processing lacquer.
C. The making of lacquer ware. D. Materials used to create lacquer ware.
34. Which is regarded as the unique form of lacquer art in China
A. Maki-e. B. Najeonchilgi. C. Surface decoration. D. Lacquer carving.
35. Japanese lacquer ware is best-known for its ________,
A. artistic carving B. gold or silver effect C. purest painting D. changing shiny lights

I disliked Del. He never used my real name “Jenny”. Instead, he always called me “Germy”, which meant “dirty”. Besides, he was a very naughty boy at school. So when Mr. Smith, the head teacher, asked him to come to his office one day, I naturally thought that Del had done something wrong. A few minutes later, Del returned to the classroom and seemed heart-broken. He took his schoolbag and left, without saying anything. He did not return to class that day and the next day. All of us kept wondering what had happened to him.
“What did he do ” one of my friends asked me.
“He must have hit a little boy and was sent home by the head teacher,” I whispered to my friends. “A moment ago, I saw a little boy crying outside while Del was talking to him.”
Immediately, the whole class was talking about Del being kicked out of school for beating up a kid. I was shocked that my assumptions were passed on so quickly. So when Del walked into the classroom a few days later, the kids sitting next to him tried their best to avoid him.
“What’s the problem ” Del asked.
“I don’t want you to beat me,” one of the kids said.
“Yeah, I might,” said Del.
I could tell Del was joking, but many kids thought he admitted he did beat up someone. During the breaks, when Del tried to join the games, the players just declined.
“Why ” Del asked, looking confused. “I always played with you guys.”
They just ignored him and went on playing. Del sighed and sat by himself while the others were enjoying themselves. Del looked very lonely and sad, much different from what he had been. I started to feel sorry for him.
I felt even worse for what I said after I learned what really happened. The boy was Del’s younger brother and he was crying that day because their mother fell ill and was sent to hospital. So I decided to do something to stop the rumor (谣言).
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The next day, Del was left alone during the break, again.

【答案】My Favorite Dish
My favorite dish is undoubtedly a kind of chili sauce called Lao Gan Ma, or “old godmother”.
I like it because it can be used for basically anything I’d like to add flavor to! For example, it can be used for creating Chinese salads and noodles. It can also be used on bread, eggs, and roasted potatoes to improve flavor. Best of all, it is very convenient to carry around. So I can use it to add a personal touch to the dishes sold at our school. Here I’d like to ask everyone to have a try!

注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

【答案】
The next day, Del was left alone during the break, again. So I walked slowly toward him. At the sight of me, he looked a bit puzzled. Daring not to look into his eyes, I apologized and explained how my assumptions had turned into such a terrible rumor. “I’m sorry, too,” Del hung his head in shame and said in a low voice, “I wasn’t very nice to you, either. I know you spread the rumor just because of my bad behavior. I think I have earned it.”
After we apologized to each other, I decided to do more. I walked Del toward our classmates and called for their attention. Everyone stopped in surprise. I told them that Del didn’t beat up anyone and that I just made up the whole story because I hated being called “Germy”. On hearing that funny name, all of them laughed, in good nature. “All right! Can Germy... Jenny...and I join your play now ” Del glanced at me shyly.
