第一节(共15小题;每小题 2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Most animals have little connection with animals of a different kind, unless they hunt them for food. Sometimes , however, two kinds of animals come together in a partnership(伙伴关系)which does good to both of them. You may have noticed some birds sitting on the backs of sheep. This is not because they want a ride, but because they find easy food in the parasites (寄生虫) on sheep. The sheep allow the birds to do so because they remove the cause of discomfort. So although they can manage without each other, they do better together.
Sometimes an animal has a plant partner. The relationship develops until the two partners cannot manage without each other. This is so in the corals(珊瑚)of the sea. In their skins they have tiny plants which act as “dustman”, taking some of the waste products from the corals and giving in return oxygen which the animal needs to breathe. If the plants are killed, or are even prevented from light so that they cannot live normally, the corals will die.
( )21. Some birds like to sit on sheep because.
A. they can eat its parasites
B. they depend on the sheep for existence
C. they enjoy travelling with the sheep
D. they find the position most comfortable
( )22.The underlined word “they” in the last sentence of the first paragraph refers to
A. birds and parasites B. birds and sheep
C. parasites and sheep D. sheep, birds and parasites
( )23. What does the second paragraph mainly discuss

B. Some animals and plants develop their relationship easily.
C. Some plants depend on each other for food.

When asked to point out one or two things that are most important to themselves, many put friends ahead of homes, jobs, clothes and cars.
A true friendship carries a long history of experience that determines who we are and keeps us connected. It is a treasure we should protect. Unfortunately, the better friends you are, the more probably you'll have disagreements. And the result can be what you don't want-an end to the relationship.
The good news is that most troubled friendships can be mended. First, don't let your pride get in your way. Most of us can forgive each other when differences are brought out in the open. Second, apologize when you're wrong-even if you've been wronged. Over the course of a friendship, even the best people make mistakes. Sometimes, it may be best if the wronged person takes the lead and apologizes. When you apologize, give your friend a chance to admit that he has been wrong. Third, see things from your friend's point of view. And finally, accept that friendships change as our needs and lifestyles (生活方式)change. Making friends can sometimes seem easy. The hard part is keeping the connections strong during the natural ups and downs that have an effect on all relationships. My suggestion: consider friendship an honor and a gift, and worth the effort to treasure and nurture(培养).

A. we have much in common B. we know our friends'mistakes

( )27. What should we do if we follow the author's second suggestion
A. Stick to our own points of view. B. Avoid making mistakes.
C. Make an apology first. D.Change our lifestyles.
C
When someone has deeply hurt you, it can be extremely difficult to let go of your anger. But forgiveness is possible-and it can be surprisingly helpful to your physical and mental health. Indeed, research has shown that people who forgive report more energy, better appetite (胃口)and better sleep patterns.“People who forgive show less anger and more hopefulness,”says Dr. Frederic Luskin, who wrote the book Forgive for Good. “So it can help save on the wear and tear, and allow people to feel more energetic.”
So when someone has hurt you, calm yourself first. Take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure: a beautiful scene in nature, or someone you love. Don't wait for an apology. “Many times the person who hurt you may never think of apologizing,” says Dr. Luskin. “They may have wanted to hurt you or they just don't see things the same way. So if you wait for people to apologize, you could be waiting a very long time. ”Keep in mind that forgiveness does not necessarily mean accepting the action of the person who upset you. Mentally going over your hurt gives power to the person who brought you pain. Instead, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you. Finally, try to see things from the other person's perspective (视角).You may realize that he or she was acting out of ignorance (无知),fear--even love. To gain perspective, you may want to write a letter to yourself from that person's point of view.
( )28. The text is mainly written to explain
A. how to keep yourself from being hurt B. how to stay mentally healthy
C. how and when to remain calm D. why and how to pardon others
( )29. When someone has deeply hurt you, it's not easy for you to
A. feel very angry B. let go of your anger

A. Trying to figure out why you get hurt.
B. Writing a letter to the person who hurt you.

D. Thinking about pleasant things and forgeting the hurt.
()31. Dr. Luskin advises us not to wait for an apology after being hurt because
A. we are not patient enough
B. we'd feel worse accepting others'apology
C. people seldom want to apologize
D. people don't mean it when they apologize

Betty and Harold have been married for years. But one thing still puzzles (困扰)old Harold. How is it that he can leave Betty and her friend Joan sitting on the sofa, talking, go out to a ballgame, come back three and a half hours later, and they're still sitting on the sofa Talking
What in the world, Harold wonders, do they have to talk about
Betty shrugs. Talk We're friends.
Researching this matter called friendship, psychologist Lillian Rubin spent two years interviewing more than two hundred women and men. No matter what their ages, their jobs, their sexes, the results were completely clear:women have more friendships than men, and the difference in the content and the quality of those friendships is“marked and unmistakable”.
More than two-thirds of the single men Rubin interviewed could not name a best friend. Those who could were likely to name a woman. Yet three-quarters of the single women had no problem naming a best friend, and almost always it was a woman. More married men than women named their wife/husband as a best friend, most trusted person, or the one they would turn to in time of emotional distress(痛苦).“Most women,” says Rubin,“identified (认定)at least one , usually more , trusted friends to whom they could turn in a troubled moment, and they spoke openly about the importance of these relationships in their lives. ".
“In general,”writes Rubin in her new book, “women's friendships with each other rest on shared emotions and support, but men's relationships are marked by shared activities.” For the most part, Rubin says , interactions(交往) between men are emotionally controlled-a good fit with the social requirements of “manly behavior”.
“Even when a man is said to be a best friend, ” Rubin writes, “the two share little about their innermost feelings. Whereas a woman's closest female friend might be the first to tell her to leave a failing marriage, it wasn't unusual to hear a man say he didn't know his friend's marriage was in serious trouble until he appeared one night asking if he could sleep on the sofa."
( )32.What old Harold cannot understand or explain is the fact that
A. he is treated as an outsider rather than a husband
B. women have so much to share

D. he finds his wife difficult to talk to

B. Spending too much time with his friends.
C. Complaining about his marriage trouble.
D. Going out to ball games too often.

On a bright, warm July afternoon,Mac Hollan, a primary school teacher, was cycling from his home to Alaska with his friends. One of his friends had stopped to make a bicycle repair, but they had encouraged Mac to carry on, and they would catch up with him soon. As Mac pedaled(骑行)along alone, he thought fondly of his wife and two young daughters at home. He hoped to show them this beautiful place someday.
Then Mac heard quick and loud breathing behind him. “ Man, that's a big dog!” He thought. But when he looked to the side, he saw instantly that it wasn't a dog at all, but a wolf, quickly catching up with him.
Mac's heart jumped. He found out his can of bear spray(防熊喷雾剂).With one hand on the bars,he fired the spray at the wolf. A bright red cloud enveloped the animal, and to Mac's relief, it fell back, shaking its head. But a minute later, it was by his side again. Then it attacked the back of Mac's bike, tearing open his tent bag. He fired at the wolf a second time, and again , it fell back only to quickly restart the chase(追赶).
Mac was pedaling hard now. He waved and yelled at passing cars but was careful not to slow down.He saw a steep uphill climb before him. He knew that once he hit the hill, he'd be easily caught up and the wolf's teeth would be tearing into his flesh.
At this moment, Paul and Becky were driving their car on their way to Alaska. They didn't think much of it when they saw two cyclists repairing their bike on the side of the road. A bit later, they spotted (发现)what they, too, assumed was a dog running alongside(在……旁边)a man on a bike. As they got closer, they realized that the dog was a wolf. Mac heard a large vehicle (车辆)behind him. He pulled in front of it as the wolf was catching up fast , just a dozen yards away now.
