Last Saturday. David was taking a walk in the park near his home when he noticed a woman with a boy of about eight years old. When David passed them, he heard the woman yell, “How stupid you are! You’re good at nothing.” The boy said nothing. He just stood there、 looking upset, which reminded David of his middle school days.
After he entered middle school, David lacked self-confidence because he was often made fun of by others. He was often told that he was good at nothing, which David believed. But one day it all changed.
One day, in an English writing class, Mrs Brown asked them to read a novel. They were asked to write a new chapter for the novel after they finished reading the book. A few days later, David handed in his story. He didn’t give it much thought. But the next day, to his surprise, the comment “Well done” from Mrs Brown came into view the moment he turned to the page where the story was written.
Encouraged by Mrs. Brown’s feedback, David began writing short stories and seeking her advice. She always corrected his mistakes and provided valuable suggestions. Over time, David’s confidence grew, and he eventually joined the school newspaper as an editor.
After graduating from college, David continued writing and eventually published his first book. His success as a writer was largely due to Mrs. Brown’s encouragement. Without her support, he might have had a very different life.
Inspired by his own life story, David decided to do something for that boy. He approached the woman and her son, smiling warmly. He introduced himself and gently spoke to the boy, “You know, I used to feel the same way, but someone believed in me, and it changed everything. You have potential too, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.” The boy’s eyes lit up with a glimmer of hope, and David left knowing he had planted a seed of confidence that might one day grow into a mighty oak. The mother, upon hearing David’s story, felt ashamed of her behavior and realized the impact her words had on her son.
David’s encounter with the boy reminded him of the power of encouragement and the difference it can make in someone’s life. He vowed to continue spreading positivity and confidence wherever he went.

A.His own talent and hard work.
B.His parents’ support and deep love.
C.Mrs. Brown’s encouragement.
D.Mrs. Brown’s constant complaint.

Your favorite foods might not taste the same in the future, and the climate crisis is behind it.
In Spain, the black Iberian pigs, which are very important for making special ham, usually eat acorns(橡子)and surrounding grass under oak trees. However, because of heatwaves and a five-year drought, these natural foods are becoming less. So, the pigs are now fed olives(橄榄), thereby changing the unique flavor of the ham.
Drought also affects how fruits taste. For example, watermelons and cantaloupes(香瓜)taste different when there’s a drought. Researchers from a Spanish tech center told a Spanish newspaper that sugars and other compounds build up during droughts, changing the taste of food, sometimes for better, sometimes for worse.
Beyond drought, rising temperatures and sea levels also influence food flavors. Typically, warm days and cool nights improve the sugar and acid content in fruits, which are essential for the optimal flavor. However, global warming makes this hard to achieve. For example, Japanese apples are becoming less acidic, softer, and drier due to early blooming and high temperatures during growth.
While the food we eat is deeply influenced by the climate crisis, our food choices also cause it. Eating meat and dairy from cows has a big impact on the climate. Raising livestock(牲畜)produces a lot of greenhouse gases. Making animal protein also needs more land, energy and water than making plant-based protein.
This may seem like a problem that can’t be solved, but we can break this cycle. The Good Food Institute, a US group, believes people will choose alternative protein if they are as tasty and affordable as meat.
Meanwhile, more people have started to take action. According to The New York Times, Will Hlamris, a US farmer, practices regenerative farming, allowing cows to move around freely, using less chemical use and disturbing the soil less, which is more environmentally friendly.
61.What changes the flavor of the ham

64.According to the Good Food Institute, people will choose alternative protein if _______.
A.they are cheaper than meat
B.the environment changes
C.the greenhouse gases disappear
D.they are delicious and cheap enough
65.What’s the main idea of the passage
A.Food production affected by climate.
B.Benefits of regenerative farming.
C.Climate crisis changing food taste.
D.Livestock’s role in making protein.

More and more people are realizing that negative self-talk and negative energy can affect you in many ways and cause you additional stress. Because of this, developing more positive self-talk is an important way to reduce stress in your life. You can help yourself maintain a positive mind, which will help with positive self-talk by surrounding yourself with positive energy in your life. You can get that by adding some elements to your life.
Listening to music that not only has a pleasant melody, but an uplifting message, can be great for developing positive self-talk. Have you ever had a song “stuck in your head” for a few hours or days, the lyrics(歌词)repeating themselves in your mind If those lyrics were positive and inspirational, that would be a good thing. It’s a much better mental soundtrack to have than a running stream of complaints, criticisms of self-limiting thoughts, or even songs that had more depressing or sad lyrics.
Books on strength, personal power, or self-help can be good resources to help you change your outlook and the things you say to yourself. Rather than bringing self-defeating thoughts, you can find yourself thinking of new can-do concepts when times get tough.
One of the most important ways you can get and keep positive energy in your life is to choose your friend wisely. Do your friends uplift you, or bring you down Are they critical, or approving Ideal friendships provide support when you’re down, fun when you’re up, wisdom when you’re lost. Good friends can inspire you to reach greater heights, and see your strengths even when you don’t always. Pay attention to how your friends make you feel, and if they’re less than supportive, start putting your energy and time toward people who are better suited to be your friends.
In addition, positive affirmations(肯定)can certainly change your self-talk from negative to positive. Now, why not begin working positive affirmations into your life in some creative ways
66.What does the underlined word “that” refer to in the first paragraph
A.Positive self-talk. B.Additional stress.
C.Positive energy. D.Negative energy.
67.How many ways does the author suggest to get positive energy in our life
A.Three. B.Four. C.Five. D.Six.

A.keep thinking of that thing all the time
B.regard that thing as the most important

D.try to get that thing out of your mind

第Ⅱ卷(共35分)
第一节:阅读表达(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读短文,并按照题目要求用英语回答问题。
A fresh white blanket of snow covered my favorite pine tree in our front yard. The farmland, the roads and the roofs of houses were all white. In the backyard, our dog jumped in the fresh snow. It was morning, just three weeks before Christmas Day.
I couldn’t sleep so I got up early with the dog and took in the quiet and calm beauty of the first snowfall of the holiday season. I turned on the lights of our two Christmas trees, which means a lot to me. I admired the beauty of the decorations and the memories they represented. These were memories that my wife, daughter, and I had created. On one tree, we had decorations from our various travels and favorite places. The other tree had a variety of decorations made by our daughter. The scent of fresh pine lingered(飘溢着)on each tree.
I started a pot of coffee. And I began thinking of the upcoming weeks and sighed. No gifts had been wrapped(包); half of them still needed to be purchased. The cookies had not been made or iced. Christmas cards still needed to be filled out and mailed. Final decorations and planning had to be finished. Work projects would need to be completed before the end of the year. There was really a lot to do.
Thankfully, the dog barked at the back door and helped me erase those thoughts of the upcoming tasks. She ran back to our bedroom to greet my wife and daughter. When seeing they were sleeping warmly and soundly, I smiled. As for me, my Christmas gifts had come early. Money couldn’t buy gifts like a blanket of snow or good memories. The gifts of love from my dog and the security of knowing my wife and daughter had slept warmly in their beds surpassed anything one could find at a store.
The Christmas gift I really need is a beautiful December morning— the time when everything is just right and those who are closest to me are there to share my moment.
