Unit7 Careers Leson2: Career Skills (教学设计)
Teaching Objectives:
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
1.Identify the key information in listening (main topic/subtopics/supporting details);
2.Use signal words to summarize information with their own words;
3.Give and take career advice based on future job trends;
4.Reflect on their career choice to make a career development plan.
Teaching key and difficulty:
Key: build the skill of summarizing information with their own words
Difficulty: Give and take career advice based on future job trends
Teaching Procedures:
Step 1 Review and Predict
Ss review what they’ve learned about career in Topic Talk through questions;
Ss predict what will happen in the future job market and what knowledge, skills and attitudes are needed to succeed in future jobs.
Step 2 1st listening: get general idea and identify key information and signal words
Ss answer questions to get the main topic and subtopics of the text;
Ss identify the signal words used to connect ideas.
Step 3 2nd listening: get supporting details and further understand the trends
Ss find out the reasons to develop career skills
Step 4 skill builder: make a summary
Ss review the main topic, subtopics, supporting details of the text;
Ss learn about using their own words but avoiding their own opinion in a summary through an example;
In pairs, Ss use signal words and their own words to summarize Mr Mcdougall’s advice.
Step 5: group work: seek and summarize advice
Ss seek at least one piece of career advice from each of their group members based on job trends;
Ss take notes of the key information of the advice;
Ss use signal words and their own words to summarize peers’ advice.
Step 6: Summary
Step 7: Homework
Ss write down their summary of career advice from others.
Ss add their career plan to complete their dream career mind map based on others’ advice on future jobs.
