九年级英语每周阅读训练(2016.04.11-4.17)
A first for China
——曹文轩:我讲地道的中国故事,也是全人类的故事。
What are some of the ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) best stories you have ever read Fairy tales from Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen, or the Sherlock Holmes series written by Scottish writer Arthur Conan Doyle Now, you can add another person to your list of favorite authors. His name is Cao Wenxuan, and he is a Chinese writer who is well known for writing children’s fiction.
On April 4, Cao won t ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )he 2016 Hans Christian Andersen Prize (国际安徒生奖) in Italy. He is the first Chinese writer to ever win this important award for children’s literature (文学).
“The unanimous (全体一致的 ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )) choice of the jury (评委会), Cao writes beautifully about the complex (复杂的) lives of children facing great challenges,” Patricia Aldana, the 2016 Hans Christian Andersen jury president, said to Xinhua.
If you read C ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ao’s stories, you will find many beautiful and poetic (诗意的) descriptions of scenery. u For example, in The Grass House (1997, 《草房子》), Cao writes, “(The grass) grows tough (坚强). When the sun shines, the grass shines like copper wire (铜线). When the wind blows from the sea, the grass makes surprisingly metal-like sounds.”
Cao also uses love ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )as a theme in his stories, and he describes it with great beauty. You can find this theme in Bronze and Sunflower (2005, 《青铜与葵花》). A country boy named Bronze who cannot speak meets a city girl named Sunflower. He takes Sunflower as his little sister after her father dies in an accident. Bronze does everything he can to make Sunflower happy: He leaves school to make sure there is money for Sunflower’s studies, he catches fireflies (萤火虫) for her and he makes a light to help Sunflower do her homework. But it seems they are doomed (命中注定的) to be pulled apart (分离) …
Though the ending ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) is sad, it helps make the story more realistic (现实的). “Sadness is a beautiful emotion (情感). It helps kids understand the real world when it is expressed properly,” Cao once told the Wen Hui Daily.
When Cao creates ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )a story, he does not write specifically (明确地) for someone. Adults can find beauty in his stories, and the plots (情节) he invents tend to impress children. “I tell authentic (地道的) Chinese stories, but they are stories that all humans can relate to (关联). This might be a key reason why I won this award,” he said. 21ST

Gift for language
——Lim Yoon-a speaks fluent Chinese. 韩国明星林允儿学习中文有秘诀。
When an actor trie ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )s to develop a career in a foreign country, language is usually the biggest barrier (障碍). But for South Korean singer and actress Lim Yoon-a, it does not seem like a problem.
A few weeks ago, th ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )e Girls’ Generation member and actress impressed her fans by speaking fluent Mandarin on a Chinese variety show (综艺节目), while promoting her new TV drama. God of War Zhao Yun (《武神赵子龙》), which started airing on Hunan TV on April 3, is Lim’s first Chinese drama. It tells the story of the historical hero Zhao Zilong from the Chinese novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms (《三国演义》). Lim, 25, plays Xiahou Qingyi, a princess that Zhao meets.
Lim said she used to ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) learn Chinese as second language in junior high school. But it was during the eight months she spent shooting the TV series that she made the most progress.
She spoke her lin ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )es in Chinese throughout the shoot. She actually didn’t have to, since her lines would later be dubbed (配音). She also typed using Chinese pinyin when she exchanged phone messages with her Chinese co-stars.
“I spoke Chinese w ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ith the drama’s staff and actors every day,” Lim said. “I guess that’s why I have improved my Chinese a lot.”
She didn’t pass up ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )any chance to use the language when interacting (互动) with her Chinese fans. She replied to them in Chinese on weibo, and signed her name in Chinese characters. Her fans joked that Lim’s Chinese has reached HSK (汉语水平考试) level 6, the highest level that a foreigner can get.
Lim’s efforts to learn Chinese also moved many non-fans.
“It shows her ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )sincerity (诚意) and respect for the culture of a foreign country,” said a Chinese weibo user.
