Tu Youyou, an 84-year-old woman, was the first Chinese female scientist to be awarded a Nobel Prize for her discovery of the life-saving drug artemisinin (known as qinghaosu) with the help of her team in the 1970s. When standing on the stage, she expressed her sincere gratitude to the Committee for the honour, Tu Youyou said, “This is not only an honour for myself, but also recognition and encouragement for all scientists in China.”
As a member of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, she benefited a lot from the experts in the same field by learning Chinese medicine for two and a half years, which helped her master a deep knowledge about traditional practices.
Attaching great importance to saving people’s lives from Malaria — a disease that killed millions of people every year, Tu Youyou was chosen to establish a team to find a cure and had an idea that Chinese herbs might be the key after seeing so many unsuccessful experiments conducted by others. She immersed herself in learning ancient Chinese medical literature, visiting experts in traditional Chinese medicine and researching hundreds of traditional recipes connected to anti-malarial cures, getting nothing. Then the thought of using modern research methods to study these Chinese herbs came to her mind.
After hundreds of failed experiments due to limited resources and the lack of staff, even the air quality in the laboratory they worked was terrible, they eventually came across a promising chemical. Tu Youyou even bravely volunteered to be the first human subject to see if it was safe for humans. The test turned out to be a success.
“From our research experience in discovering artemisinin, we learnt the wisdom behind both Chinese and Western medicine. There is great potential for future advances if these two kinds of wisdom can be fully integrated,”she said.

B. Her desire to be recognized by the whole world.
C. The joint effort of the team members.
D. Her modest attitude towards learning from others.
10. How did Tu Youyou prove that Chinese herb would be the cure
A. Studying latest Chinese literature.
B. Tasting hundreds of Chinese herbs.
C. Visiting experts in modern-Chinese medicine.
D. Researching a great deal of traditional recipes
11. Which of the following difficulties did Tu Youyou and her team not encounter
A. They were short of staff.
B. Their research methods were out-dated.
C. The air quality in their laboratory was bad.
D. Their resources was limited.
Most people think that phones are a bad thing for anxiety. Parents, in particular, believe phones are terrible for the mental health of children. So, what is the truth While I was writing my book You Don’t Understand Me, which addresses the mental health of teenage girls and young women, I felt I had to get to the bottom of the relationship between phones and anxiety. And to be honest, it doesn’t look great.
What I have observed clinically is that rather than being the cause of the problem, phones seem to act as a catalyst (催化剂) to our emotions. This can be a positive thing, when it allows us to connect with friends and family and share happy things. However, humans are born to foresee danger and our minds can quickly react from an initial trigger to create catastrophic (极糟的) but wholly imaginary circumstances, which our bodies respond to as though they were true. So some of the questions I ask my patients about their phone use are: Are you using your phone to connect to people or to compare to people The former is positive for mental health but the latter will likely increase anxiety.
Research suggests that there may be a sweet spot with mobile phone use, after which the screen stops being helpful or fun and starts having a negative impact on wellbeing. An analogy (类比) to drinking is helpful: a couple of glasses of red wine can be relaxing; a bottle a night is not so helpful. And like with drinking, some people find it difficult to stop just at the point when they should.
So if you are experiencing anxiety, think about your phone use — think about how much time you spend on it and on what kind of content. Readdressing this might be one important key in unlocking a less anxious life.
12. What’s the theme of You Don’t Understand Me
A. The mental health of young females.
B. The useful ways to understand others.
C. The misunderstanding of the phone using.
D. The relationship between phones and anxiety.
13. How will our minds respond when we receive something negative
A. They’ll imagine very bad situations.
B. They’ll predict some true reactions.
C. They’ll turn negative things into reality.
D. They’ll turn negative things into positive ones.
14. Why does the author mention drinking wine
A. To express its benefit to health.
B. To stress the addictive nature.
C. To illustrate the sweet spot of using phones.
D. To explain the importance of drinking wine.
15. How can we reduce our anxiety according to the text
A. By changing our ways of thinking.
B. By drinking a couple of glasses of red wine.
C. By reading more books about reducing anxiety.
D. By adjusting the time and content of phone using.

He said to himself, "I know what I will do, I'll send my mother some roses."
He stopped and went into the flower shop and saw a boy talking to the salesgirl in it. "How many roses can I get for five dollars. Ms. " the boy asked. The salesgirl was trying to explain that roses were expensive. Maybe the boy would be happy with something else.
"No I have to have roses," he said. "my mom was badly sick last year and I didn't get to spend much time with her. I want to get something special. It has to be red roses, because that is her favorite." He was stubborn.
The salesgirl in the shop looked up at Eric and was still shaking her head. Something inside of Eric was touched by the boy's voice. He wanted to get those roses so badly. Eric had been blessed (幸运的) in his business, and he winked at the salesgirl and silently said that he would pay for the boys roses.
The salesgirl looked at the boy and said, "OK, I will give you a dozen red roses for your dollars." The boy almost jumped into the air. He took the flowers and ran down the store. It was worth more than five dollars just to see that kind of excitement.

Research suggests that there may be a sweet spot with mobile phone use after which the screen stops being helpful or fun and starts having a negative impact on wellbeing.

Eric was working in a selling business. He had been on the road visiting people for more than a month without going home. He couldn't wait to get back to see his wife and children. Mother's Day was approaching, and he usually tried to make it "back home", but this year he was just too busy and too tired. The day when he was driving in a small town, he saw a flower shop.
Eric had been blessed (幸运) in his business, and he winked at the salesgirl and silently said that he would pay for the boys roses.
The salesgirl looked at the boy and said, "OK, I will give you a dozen red roses for your dollars." The boy almost jumped into the air. He took the flowers and ran down the store. It was worth more than five dollars just to see that kind of excitement.
Eric ordered his own flowers and asked the salesgirl to have it delivered to his mother. After that, with a relief he drove down the road. Not long after his driving, he saw the boy walking to a graveyard (墓地).

【答案】Eric pulled in and followed the boy. The boy went up to a small monument, and knelt down. He carefully put the flowers before it and began to sob, "Dear mom, I love you. But how I regret I didn't tell it when you were with me. I knew you loved roses, but why didn't I send the flowers to you when I could still see you and talk with you Now, you have gone to another world. How I regret I didn't tell you I love you so much!"
Eric went into the car in tears. His mother's home wasn't far from the place, but he hadn't seen her for too long. He didn't have a talk with her for too long a time and say how much he loved her for so long a time. He started the car and drove up to the flower shop. He asked the salesgirl to give him the flowers directly because he wanted to send them personally to his mom.
