Do we really need real dubbing artists in the age of artificial intelligence Indeed, many have harbored doubts about the future and necessity of real dubbing (配音) artists. Yet for Kathryn Lin, a leading dubbing artist from China’s Taiwan island, the profession means the shared happiness of generations of audiences on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
Born in 1975, Lin was frequently chosen by her school to take part in various speech contests. Unfortunately, in her first year of college, her family faced a major financial crisis, and she had no choice but to drop out of college and take up part-time jobs in shops and restaurants. The chance to join the dubbing industry came when the dubbing artists’ union on Taiwan island wanted to recruit students for dubbing performances, and she made it.
Since she was a newcomer to the industry, she had to complete her apprenticeship (学徒期) before getting real work, which usually takes three to five years of hard work, but Lin achieved that in less than two years.
“After working for a few years, I realized that the job was not just about bread and butter,” she said, stressing that the popular characters she has dubbed for have given her “a lot of insight into life and intriguing experiences”. Talking about the Chinese mainland’s animation market, Lin said mainland productions have a lot of original elements. Mainland animations “are a cultural blend of the East and the West, and the style inspires me a lot when dubbing.”
In her spare time, she also attends lectures to help young criminals, and children who have dropped out of school. “They might have been under stress or were really confused before breaking the law, or might have dropped out of school for family reasons,” she said.
When it comes to AI dubbing, Lin said she is “actually trying to be less pessimistic… I think it’s a future trend.” Lin believes dubbing artists can transform themselves by, for instance, teaching the art of dubbing to younger people, publishing books, teaching in schools and giving lectures.
24. What made Lin take up dubbing
A. Her family’s request. B. Her school’s recommendation.
C. The dubbing union’s recruitment. D. Her keen interest in the dubbing industry.
25. What do we know about mainland productions in Lin’s eyes
A. They are fully original.
B. Their style can greatly inspire viewers.
C. Their figures are appealing and thought-provoking.
D. They feature a combination of the East and the West.
26. Which of the following best describes Lin
A. Diligent and thoughtful. B. Talented and generous.
C. Competent and easy-going. D. Outgoing and humorous.
27. What did Lin think of dubbing in the future
A. She is pessimistic about AI dubbing.
B. AI dubbing will substitute for dubbing artists to an extent.
C. AI dubbing will merely make up a small part of the industry.
D. Dubbing artists won’t be replaced as dubbing represents shared happiness.

When asked what his father did for a living, Mike explained to his kindergarten teacher that “he steals things, but it’s OK, because he gets paid to do it. ”
He isn’t wrong. His father is a hacker(黑客), who is proud of his job, just like doctors are proud of the work they do. Thanks to security researchers’ hacking practices, leaks in a new version of the most common Wi-Fi code standard(WPA3)were found before criminals could use them to break into home and business networks. In another case, criminals found an unknown weakness in Google’s Android operating systems before security researchers did, giving the bad guys full control of more than a dozen phone models.
However, finding Mike’s father’s personalized plates for his car with the word ‘HACKING’, an employee of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles quickly took them away, claiming that a license plate displaying “HACKING” publicized criminal activity. While this reaction really isn’t the fault of the well-intentioned employee, it’s a sign of how a deeply rooted misrepresentation of his profession has created a fixed wrong image. It seems that the way that hackers are described in Hollywood has contributed to the word ‘hacker’ paralleling ‘criminal’, where hackers are often referred to as figures in dark rooms engaged in illegal activity while tapping at keyboards.
But actually, hacking is just an activity. What separates any activity from a crime is, very often, permission. People are free to drive, but they do not have permission to drive 150 miles per hour, which is a criminal offense. Since a driver is just a driver, why must a hacker be a criminal Someone who engages in the illegal use of hacking should not be called a ‘bad hacker’ but a ‘cybercriminal’. Contrary to popular belief, most hackers like Mike’s father undoubtedly play an important role in keeping companies and people safe.
28. What did Mike’s son think of Mike’s job
A Admirable. B. Amazing. C. Acceptable. D. Annoying.
29. What does the second paragraph mainly talk about concerning the hackers’ job
A. Its weakness. B. Its importance. C. Its variety D. Its security.
30. Why does the writer mention ‘Hollywood’ in paragraph 3
A. To entertain the renders. B. To question the employee’s claim.
C. To clarify the concept of hacking. D. To trace the wrong image of hackers.
31. What message does the author really want to convey in the text
A. Hacking mostly counts. B. Hacking is actually a crime.
C. Hacking is popular with people. D. Hacking needs licenses.
D
In recent decades, experiments have begun to catch up with what people who work closely with animals have always known—that animals have an inner life, and consciousness isn’t uniquely human.
Consciousness is a concept that is extremely difficult to define. There have been many attempts: is it awareness, or awareness of that awareness, or self-awareness instead But a useful working definition might be that it is any kind of subjective experience, ranging from how we perceive the external world to our inner thoughts and emotions. Because you can never be inside another living being’s head, questions of consciousness are both hard to answer and open to bias (偏见).
Findings of experiments inspired a group of scientists in April to write The New York Declaration Animal Consciousness, which now has over 300 supporters. It states that there is “strong scientific support for conscious experience” in mammals and birds and “at least a realistic possibility of conscious experience” in fish and other species.
That animals have some form of inner life must surely be self-evident to many people who live or work with them, just as I would guess that most carers of newborn babies don’t see these infant as senseless automatic machines. The experiences of people with thorough knowledge of either have historically, been viewed as subjective and biased, as emotional connection tends to influence logical reasoning. Our consciousness leads us to over-empathize with others we cannot truly know, the argument goes.
But, as the biologist Marc Bekoff wrote, if we humans have something, then other animals are likely to have it too. I personally feel that attempts to divorce emotion, feeling and experience from how we see animals can be as unscientific. For too long, we assumed that humans are unique and animals don’t feel pain or emotions the way that we do, a convenient but cruel null hypothesis (无效假设), when we could have started from the position that perhaps they do instead.
32. Which is a key characteristic of consciousness according to the passage
A. It means any emotional experience of humans.
B. It refers to individual’s subjective experience.
C It is all about how we perceive the external world.
D. It refers to a common quality shared by all animals.
33. Why are the carers of newborn babies mentioned
A. To show that animals are just as conscious as human babies.
B. To help readers understand why animals possess consciousness.
C. To argue against the view of people living or working with animals.
D. To explain why animal carers would assume animals have an inner life.
34. What might be the author’s attitude towards Marc Bckoff’s assumption about animal emotions
A. Doubtful. B. Objective. C. Supportive. D. Uncertain.
35. which can be the best title of the passage
A. Consciousness Improved Through Practice
B. Questions of Human Consciousness Answered
C. Factors Affecting Animal Consciousness Discovered
D. Conscious Experience Found in Certain Animal Species

The whole class burst out laughing as Mohi rushed into the classroom. He was a strange sight. His half-buttoned white shirt revealed a red striped pajama (睡衣) top underneath, and instead of white school shoes, he had on a pair of bright green sandals that were two sizes too big. The physics teacher’s hand froze in the middle of writing a formula on the blackboard.
Mohi murmured, “Sorry, teacher,” and rushed to his seat. Mr. Tan glared at the rest of the students. The chuckles (咯咯笑) quickly died down. Mohi’s classmates always looked forward to Mondays. Nine times out of ten, they would be entertained by Mohi’s late arrival and his odd appearance which usually included inappropriate clothing. That day, it was the pajama top and green sandals.
Mohi lived just a street away from the school. He walked to school daily. Students passing by in buses would yell his name at the same time just to see him jump and stop suddenly. When he spotted the merry crowd in the bus, he would wave good-naturedly. Although Mohi was likable, he was too lost in his own thoughts to make friends. His classmates found him amusing but they ignored him most of the time. Only Hamed, who sat next to Mohi, tried to be his friend.
The following Monday, Mohi did not turn up at school. His classmates were a little disappointed but quickly forgot about him. After school, Hamed decided to walk over to Mohi’s house to check on him. As he approached the gate, he could hear violin music. “Mohi must be listening to music, since he had never played music at school.” Hamed thought. He called Mohi’s name a few times but there was no response. The gate was not locked. Hamed let himself in. The music played on.

67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的故事。

【答案】 When Teacher’s Day came around, Hamed had a plan. It was the tradition of the school to have a concert for the teachers. Every class had to contribute an item. Hamed convinced the class to let Mohi perform. Short of ideas, the class agreed. On the day of the concert, both the teachers and students were surprised to see the school’s clumsiest student walking on stage with a violin. When he started to play, the audience fell silent. Jaws dropped.
As the last note ended, there was a moment of silence. Then the audience erupted into thunderous applause. After the performance, shy and silent as Mohi was, he gave Hamed a big hug. Love may be silent, but it was always there. Since then, Mohi and Hamed have been best friends. With the encouragement of Hamed, Mohi has pursued his dream of being a musician. Not only do friends keep us company but also help us to be better.
