For decades, Chinese players have dominated the world of table tennis on the word stage. Table tennis stars
have shone brightly for generations. And now it’s time for Generation Z youngsters to impress.
Sun Yingsha, born in 2000, has been given the nickname “Little Devil” by her fans. When she was little, Sun
was sensitive to the sound of a table tennis ball hitting the ground. Her parents noticed her interest and encouraged
her to give the sport a try. After a few days of training, she found that she really enjoyed it. “I felt I had some
talent,” she told China Daily. When Sun first joined the reserve squad (预备队) of the national table tennis team,
she was excited and inspired. Becoming a world top player like her idol Zhang Yining has always been her dream.
However, there have been setbacks along the way. She took part in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, and it was
there that she faced significant losses. “I was not well-rounded enough to win the gold medal in the women’s
singles,” she said. “Looking back at those losses, I feel that I have learned a lot from them.” Since the Tokyo
Olympics, she has also experienced many other defeats. “Determination and courage can make a good athlete,” she
said. “What keeps me going are the goals and dreams I set for myself.”
At the 2023 Singapore Smash, Sun won the women’s singles, the women’s doubles and the mixed doubles,
becoming the first athlete to pocket three gold medals at the tournament. Looking at the world ranking website, you
can see Sun’s name at the top of the women’s singles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
After competing with strong players from other countries, Sun is delighted to see that table tennis has a bright
future. “They also urge me to improve,” she said. When talking about younger table tennis players, Sun encourages
them to retain (保持) their passion and stay focused. “If you truly love table tennis, I hope you can stick it out, no
matter what difficulties or setbacks you encounter.” she stated.

Two recent large-scale studies suggest that eating ultraprocessed foods ( 超 加 工 食 品 ) may increase
age-related cognitive (认知的) decline and increase the risk of developing dementia (痴呆).
In a December 2022 study, researchers compared the rate of cognitive decline over approximately 8 years
between groups of people that consumed different amounts of ultraprocessed foods. Those who ate a diet
containing more ultraprocessed foods at the start of the study showed slightly more cognitive decline compared
with those eating little to no ultraprocessed foods. The second study measured the association between eating
ultraprocessed foods and dementia. For the group eating the highest amount of ultraprocessed foods, approximately
1 out of 120 people were diagnosed with dementia over a 10-year period. For the group that consumed little to no
ultraprocessed foods, this number was 1 out of 170.
Many ultraprocessed foods are high in additives (添加剂), preservatives or coloring agents, while also having
other features of an unhealthy diet such as being low in fiber and nutrients. Ultraprocessed foods tend to be lower in
nutrients and fiber and higher in sugar, fat and salt compared to unprocessed or little processed foods. Some
examples of ultraprocessed foods include soda, packaged cookies, chips, frozen meals, flavored nuts, flavored
yogurt and fast foods.
Figuring out the specific effects of individual foods on the human body is difficult, in part because
maintaining strict control over people’s diets to study them over long periods of time is problematic. So far, most
nutritional studies, including these two, have only shown connections between ultraprocessed foods consumption
and health. But they cannot rule out other lifestyle factors such as exercise, education, socio-economic status, social
connections, stress and many more variables (变量) that may influence cognitive function.
28.What is the finding of the study
A.Ultraprocessed foods have no effect on cognitive decline.
B.People eating more ultraprocessed foods have more cognitive decline.
C.Ultraprocessed foods tend to be lower in nutrients and fiber.
D.Ultraprocessed foods have little impact on curing dementia.
29.How did the researchers conduct their study
A.By making a comparison. B.By referring to previous studies.
C.By giving examples. D.By analyzing data.
30.Which of the following is an example of ultraprocessed food
A.Fresh fruits. B.Uncooked vegetables.
C.Packaged cookies. D.Boiled eggs.
31.What is talked about in the last paragraph
A.Different varieties of ultraprocessed foods.
B.Specific examples of the influences of ultraprocessed foods.
C.Limitations in studying food effects on human body.
D.Future methods of studying ultraprocessed foods.

During the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Google made public an Olympic-themed advertisement to promote its
Gemini AI chatbot. Surprisingly, the ad caused heated criticism, leading Google to remove it a week after its
release.
The advertisement showed a father using Google’s Gemini AI chatbot to help his daughter write a fan letter to
US Olympic track star Sydney Maclaughlin-Levrone. In the advertisement, the father believes AI will do a better
job than himself, “She wants to show Sydney some love and I am pretty good with words. But this has to be just
right.”
However, this idea didn’t win other viewers. “This description of the advertisement is misleading. As it
overestimates AI’s ability to understand and convey nuances (细微差别) of human emotions and thoughts.” wrote
Shelly Palmer, a media professor at Syracuse University in the US, in a blog post. “Who wants an AI-written fan
letter ” one viewer added. Viewers also expressed concern that too much reliance (依赖) on AI tools could ruin
children’s learning opportunities.
“Instead of guiding her to use her own words and communicate authentically (真正地), the father is teaching
her to rely on AI for this critical human skill.” said Palmer. Palmer stressed that our use of language deeply shapes
our reality. For example, you or I might refer to a color as “red”, but that same color might be labeled “scarlet” by
an artist or “dark rose” by a designer. Language not only communicates information but also reflects the speaker’s
unique perspective. Google seems to suggest that this young girl doesn’t need to develop her own ability to express
and shape her reality, according to Palmer.
The use of generative AI also lacks the emotional depth that comes from personal expression. Palmer once
received a message from a reader years ago that read: “You’re too stupid to own a smartphone.” He loved this
humorously sarcastic (讽刺的 ) email so much that he had it hung on his office wall. “It was honest, direct and
probably accurate,” he said, “Give me a heartfelt message rather than a grammatically correct, AI generated
message any day.”
32.What is the main idea of the passage
A.Google’s Olympic-themed advertisement for Gemini AI chatbot received criticism.
B.Google’s Gemini AI chatbot was very popular during the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
C.AI-written fan letters are better than those written by humans.
D.People should rely more on AI tools.
33.According to the passage, why did viewers criticize the advertisement
A.Because it showed a father who was not good with words.
B.Because it underestimated AI’s ability to understand human emotions.
C.Because it overestimated AI’s ability to convey nuances of human emotions and thoughts.
D.Because it encouraged children to use smartphones too much.
34.What does the underlined word “perspective” in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A.Experience. B.Achievement. C.Viewpoint. D.Target.
35.What is Shelly Palmer’s attitude towards AI-generated messages
A.Positive. B.Negative. C.Neutral. D.Indifferent.

What does life purpose mean and, more importantly, how does one find and achieve it It has been a long
journey getting to this point, and here are some tips for finding your life purpose.
Play to your strength.
We are not capable of being all things to all people. 36 Develop your natural talents into skills by
studying, exercising and practicing those talents. There is nothing wrong with trying to learn new things, but the
likelihood is that you were born with the abilities needed to fulfill your life purpose.
Pursue (追求) your passions.
37 In order to live your life purpose, you must become completely immersed (沉浸) in whatever it is,
which means it must be something you are passionate about. Otherwise, you will be meant to do something that
finally makes you painful and resentful (愤慨的), in which case it will be impossible to perform at the highest level.
38
If there is one lesson that has been lived repeatedly in our life, it is that there is only one thing you can control:
yourself. No matter how hard you try, you absolutely cannot control the results of your actions. All that we can do
in life is put forth our best efforts. 39
Embrace your creativity.
We are all able to produce something that is both original and of value to the world. 40 We are not
talking about being artistic, which is one form of creativity. We are talking about tapping into the unique lens (镜
头 ) through which you view the world and the value your perspective can add. Of course, when you focus on
developing your talents and immerse yourself in what you are passionate about, creativity comes easily.
A.Do what makes you happy.
B.Focus on what you can control.
C.You were born with certain natural talents and abilities—use them.
D.Those two elements—originality and value—make up the definition of creativity.
E.For whatever reason, we all feel passionate about certain things in life.
F.Living your life purpose will undoubtedly bring you joy and a sense of personal achievement.
G.That means developing your mind, body and spirit to achieve your greatest potential and always acting with the
best of intentions.

第二节(满分 25 分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My family has collected bottles from sunup to sundown all year long. My mother leaves at dawn to collect
cans. And when she returns 12 hours later, I help her pull the shopping cart the six long blocks to the recycling
center through the street of Bushwick. Although this center has been like my second home for the past years, I have
kept it mostly a secret. I couldn’t bear the idea of my friends knowing our family survived on other people’s
garbage. What if they laughed at me I felt guilty for being embarrassed, but I couldn’t help it. Even though I had a
lot of friends and was a social butterfly, I was not ready to trust someone else.
Then in the summer before my senior year, I took a college essay course. The essay prompt was: “Recall a
time when you faced a challenge, setbacks or failure. How did it affect you And what did you learn from this
experience ” I chose to write about the impact my neighborhood’s gentrification (贵族化) had on me, and how that
led me to volunteer with officials in my community who were trying to find it. At the end, there was just one
sentence about can collecting.
One day after class, my teacher asked me to discuss my draft. “Your story has potential. However, it is not
about personal growth. How about you telling me about the can collecting ” So I was faced with sharing my secret.
But he was my teacher, and I trusted him so I rewrote the essay.
Two days later, I found out we were expected to read our essay loud after lunch! How could that be I have
kept the secret for so many years and reading my essay in the class meant that all I had done was in vain. I was
ashamed for my peers to know.
As I headed to the cafeteria, I met up with a friend, Mason, who I always had lunch with.
When we got back to class, I felt ready to read my draft out aloud.参考答案

Dear Tom,
I hope this letter finds you well. Delighted to learn that you are interested in our school’s
recent Chinese tea culture exhibition, I’m writing to introduce this wonderful event to you.
Aimed at spreading traditional Chinese culture, attractive tea varieties were displayed,
ranging from jasmine tea to green tea. Spectacular tea ceremonies were demonstrated, transporting
everyone to a world of elegance and peace. The exhibition was a huge hit! Many teachers and
students were attracted and walked away with a deeper understanding and appreciation of Chinese
tea culture.
Hope you can come here to enjoy the magic of Chinese tea someday!
Yours,
Li Hua

As I headed to the cafeteria, I met up with a friend, Mason, who I always had lunch with. I
was less talkative, and Mason noticed that I had something on my mind. We sat down, and he
asked me what was wrong. I told him I was embarrassed about my family’s story and wasn’t sure
if it was significant. “Every struggle makes us who we are. Talking to us is the first step in a
process of shedding your shame,” said Mason. “You should be proud that your family is hustling
to take care of their loved ones.” This was what I needed to hear and I felt like I could finally
breathe after all those years of hiding a part of myself.
When we got back to class, I felt ready to read my draft out aloud. When my teacher
announced the start of the presentation, I sat calmly to wait for my turn. Finally, it came. I took a
deep breath and then read it loudly. To my surprise, it wasn’t so difficult as I had imagined. The
responses I got were something like: “Each of our stories is unique to our experience and shapes
us.” “Accept your home and community, because they are your true family.” Hearing this, I
realized how stupid I was to trap myself in shame. Now, I can tell people proudly when they ask
what my parents do for a living. They are can collectors.

1. 【原文】W: I didn’t catch the sports news on TV last night. Who was the winner
M: Nadal lost to Federer in the last minute.
W: That’s surprising. I thought it was Djokovic who would win the game.
M: He came close.
2. 【原文】W: Good morning, Blue bird Restaurant. How can I help you
M: Hi. I’m Isaac Reed. I’m calling to make some changes to the existing reservation. I booked a
table for tonight, but I won’t be able to make it.
3. 【原文】W: Hi, this is Laura Sanders speaking. I can’t take the call now. Please leave a
message.
M: (beep) Hi, Laura. This is Joseph. Sorry, I can’t go to the open concert with you in the evening
as planned. I have to go to a neighboring town with my boss on business.
4. 【原文】M: I’m starving. Do you want to grab dinner together
W: I’d like to, but I can’t. I have to meet a client after work.
M: Okay, maybe another time. I’ll ask John then.
5. 【原文】W:Sorry, sir. The canteen is already closed and all the cooks have left. I’m tidying the
place. Please come back tomorrow.
M:Oh, what time does it open
W:From 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

6. 【原文】W: What’s going on We’ve been trapped in traffic for half an hour. It seems as if it’s
going to rain.
M: The Google Maps on my phone shows a car accident just happened.
W: Oh my! Do you think we’ll make it to the cinema in time
M: I’m not sure. Try a different route
W: That won’t be easy. According to the map, the shortest route passes near City Stadium, but it’s
closed for construction.
M: Seriously Well, it looks like we have no choice but to wait for the police to finish their job.
7. 【原文】W:Do you feel like joining our study group for the science project
M:Sure. That would be great. When and where do you guys meet
W:We usually meet at the library on Thursday afternoons.
M:Well, that’s tomorrow. But I will have a basketball practice then.
W:Oh, I didn’t know you were so serious about playing basketball. So, is it at this time every
week
M:Normally, it’s on Fridays. But our coach is going on a business trip this Friday afternoon.
W:That’s alright. We’d be happy to see you in the group next week.
8. 【原文】M: Hi, Mrs. Dobbins. I think we need to have a talk. It’s about the monthly program.
W: Certainly. Shall we do it now
M: Well, if you’re done with your lunch, then now is a good time.
W: Oh, yes. I already finished it ten minutes ago.
M: Okay. So, I’ve seen the teaching plan you made, and it looks richly detailed. But I’ve noticed
that there aren’t scheduled cultural activities for the next month.
W: Actually, I have made two plans: a three-hour tour around the boat museum or a two-hour trip
to the local theater. Our students’ parents have yet to determine which one to choose. I’m going to
meet them after my math class this afternoon.
M: But the parents won’t go with the children, right
W: Of course not. They just want to take part in the discussion.
M: Good. Let me know how it goes.
9. 【原文】W: Marc, I just saw a boy in front of us casually throw an empty bottle on the road.
Can you imagine that Our schoolteacher Miss Watson told us this sort of behavior is completely
unacceptable.
M: You’re right. We can pick it up ourselves, or catch up with him and remind him not to do that
again.
W: I’d go with the latter. It’s necessary to let everyone know how important it is to keep our
environment clean.
M: I agree with you. You’re such a great girl and Miss Watson will be proud of you. But we must
be polite and respectful when talking to him. Maybe he just couldn’t find a waste bin.
W: I don’t think so. I did see many rubbish bins around here. It’s worth mentioning that there is
one at every bus stop. Do you remember the bin that we put the candy wrappers in at the last stop
That’s convenient.

10.【原文】 Hello, everyone. I have to announce with a heavy heart that our beloved library
will close its doors after you leave today. This decision was not made lightly. The board of
directors thought that it was necessary for the following reasons. For starters, the rise of modern
technology has resulted in fewer visitors to the library. People turn to online resources more often.
Second, the cost of running the library has become too high due to its structural repairs and
outdated services. Third, the library collection has become out of date. With a limited budget, we
have found it difficult to keep a collection that can meet your needs. Our library had quite a long
history and first came into use on March 29th, 1954. Over the years, it has built up a collection of
nearly 10, 000 books. It is a sad day for us, but the decision has been made. We really hope to see
you again someday.
