专题4:阅读理解(观点态度类2)
It's common to play video games as a way to reduce stress. We play games for fun, relaxation and even to kill time. However, one student has found a much more creative way to use video games.
Wu Hele, 17, a Senior 3 student from Jinling High School, Nanjing, has been preparing a gift for his high school—a recreation (重建) of his own school in the game Minecraft (《我的世界》).
It is a game that allows players to design landscapes and buildings in all different types of locations with different materials.
For Wu, recreating the school was not just a sudden idea. During Wu's first time visiting the school, he found that it was perfect for rebuilding. "The landscape of the school is regular, and buildings all have a symmetrical, aesthetic feeling, which is suitable for rebuilding with Minecraft," he told Modern Express.
After his first visit to the school, Wu decided to rebuild it. However, this was not an action that could be done in a day. During his three years in high school, Wu has effectively organized his time. After finishing his homework or exercises, he always walked around the school with a notebook. "I measured all the corners by eyeballing (目测) or counting footsteps. I also drew sketches (草图). When I played the game, I would build the school based on my sketches," he told Beijing Evening News.
Wu experienced several challenges as he recreated every detail of the school. One of the most difficult challenges was building the gym. At first, he didn't know how to rebuild the shape. Then, Wu learned the conic curve formula (圆锥曲线公式), which was used for the building.
His hard work has paid off. Almost all of the scenes of Jinling High School have been rebuilt in the game. The gate, the teaching buildings, the unique corridor with the wisteria (紫藤长廊)—every tree and flower has been exactly rebuilt. The player can visit the classrooms, gyms and office buildings and view the detailed decorations inside. In addition, their school's pet cat can be seen running downstairs in the teaching building just like in real life.
"I'm the first one who rebuilt our school in this way. I've cherished (珍惜) the three years I've spent here, and I have learned a lot during the whole process," Wu told Nanjing Daily.

Many children today live in unsafe places. They may live where wars have been fought or where there is a lot of crime. Play for Peace is an organization to help these children, which was founded in 1998 in Chicago. It does so by bringing kids and adults together. For what To help them find common ground, build friendship, and create a more peaceful world.
Through Play for Peace, children, youth, adults, and organizations around the world have a platform to come together and create powerful, meaningful interactions.
Places where Play for Peace works include Northern Ireland, India, and Guatemala. Any time, day or night, Play for Peace is happening somewhere in the world. Kids from different backgrounds come together to play games. Some of the games encourage them to work together and learn about one another. While playing, kids begin to understand their different ways of thinking and doing things.
As kids in the program get older, Play for Peace teaches them to be leaders. They become advisers. The older kids lead the games for the younger kids. One leader called Mandeep from a small village in India described her experience, "I didn't realize there was a larger world until I joined Play for Peace…It was a big challenge for me. But it's meaningful for me to join it. I grew to feel safe and like them even though they were different from me."
Play for Peace works because it brings kids together. They have fun and learn how to get along. Many kids who take part find that they have much in common and they have become friends!
Play for Peace is not just an organization. It is a family of peace builders trying to change the world. Quite simply, where Play for Peace exists, peace itself grows.

There are some problems that today's society is facing. One of them is who should be responsible (负有责任的) for our elderly and how to improve their lives, and this is a serious one. I would like to suggest several possible ways.
First, bosses should think about their retired workers. At least they should leave a percentage of gains. But when it comes true, the company may be troubled because of higher costs.
Another way is to return the responsibility to everyone. This means each person must save during his working years to pay for his years of retirement. Some people find that it's difficult for them to pay for their daily life without trying to earn extra to cover their retirement years. This means the government might have to step in to care for the poor.
The government can provide more money through government taxes (税) to increase the level of pensions (养老金). And some organizations should provide a comfortable life for them. However, as the present situation in our country shows, this is not a truly practical answer. The government doesn't have enough money to care for the elderly, especially when it is busy trying to care for the young.
One further solution is that the government or social organizations set up some working places specially for the elderly.
In short, all these solutions have advantages and disadvantages. So we are expecting to put these solutions together so that we can provide the care we hope to give to our elderly.

(2) How many possible ways are mentioned

For many Asian-Americans, the phrase "I love you" belongs to the wonderful world of white people we see in the films and on television.
So many of our Asian parents have struggled (努力), and suffered in ways that are completely beyond the imaginations of their children born or raised in North American comfort. This struggle and sacrifice (牺牲) was how Asian parents say "I love you" without having to say it. And so many of us children are not expected to say it either, but instead are expected to express love through gratitude (感恩), which means obeying our parents and following their wishes for how we should live our lives.
Our parents, for the most part, told us to get a good education, get a good job and not speak up, things they had to do to survive. They have encouraged, or forced, many of us to become doctors, lawyers and engineers, and to feel ashamed if we do not. What these parents did not do was tell us we could become artists, actors or storytellers, people engaged (从事) in seemingly trivial (无价值的), unsafe and unstable professions (职业).
I have met so few who have proudly told me that their children are English majors or have become writers or artists. But I became a writer despite, and perhaps because of, their resistance (反抗) to the idea, my inarticulate (难以言喻的) desires pushing against their inarticulate sacrifice, all of it taking place before a backdrop of refugee (难民) life and racial reality.
I grew up in the relatively diverse city of San Jose, Calif, in the 1980s. My neighbours were older white working-class people, Mexican immigrants and Vietnamese refugees. Then I went to a mostly white high school, with only a handful of students of Asian descent. We knew we were different, but we found our difference a little difficult to put into words. We called ourselves "the Asian invasion".
The irony (讽刺) was that we had not invaded (入侵) America. America had invaded us, or at the very least had occupied or fought in our countries of origin or heritage. We were here because America was there.
Looking back, what I only belatedly realized was that I needed—we all needed—more stories featuring us. More voices belonging to us. More advocates telling our stories in our way with our faces, our inflections, our concerns, our intuitions. We just needed to be at the centre of a story, which would include all the aspects of human subjectivity, not just the good but the bad, the three-dimensional fullness that white people took for granted with the privilege (特权) of being individuals.
We had to learn better, but the truth is that Asian parents have to learn better, too. You cannot be proud of your artist and storyteller children only when they win Golden Globes. We honour your sacrifice for us, but you have to encourage your children to speak up as well, to claim their voices, to risk failure, to tell their stories and your stories. At the very least, you cannot stand in their way.
(1) How are some Asian children expected to express love according to the writer
(2) What are some Asian children expected to be to make their parents feel proud
(3) What are the artists, actors, writers or storytellers like in Asian parents' eyes
(4) What does the writer suggest Asian parents to do
(5) What is your idea about Asian parents' love
"Give it back to me !" Zhu Han shouted at her mum angrily. Her mother had just grabbed her cell phone, saying that she should stop playing and go to sleep.
"I told her that it was just 9 o'clock and that I had finished my homework, but she didn't listen ," said the 15-year-old girl. "I really couldn't understand her!"
Do you sometimes feel the same way A China Youth Daily report said that, according to a survey of 1,500 students, 61% of the students felt they weren't able to communicate with their parents because they don't have much common ground about mobile devices.
Researchers from University of Southern California (USC) also do a survey about teenagers' use of smartphones. In the USC report, 50% of American teenagers and 45% of Japanese teens feel addicted to their mobile phones. 61% of Japanese parents believe their children are addicted to smartphones, and 59% of American parents think so. But only 17% of Japanese teens agree that they use their phones too much. In the United States, 52% of the teens says they are spending too much time on phones.
Phones become a greater cause of conflict between teens and parents in the United States than in Japan. One in three US families report having an argument every day about the use of phones. Only about one in six Japanese families say they fight every day over mobile devices. Willow Bay is one of the researchers. She said, "Advances in mobile devices are changing the way we communicate with the people who are closest to us. The phone plays a part in our family life. Its effect may differ from country to country, but clearly it will cause a big problem in the world."

Hi, Tom, Thanks for your message and I am glad that you wrote to me for ideas. I remember when I was learning English, I felt uncomfortable about speaking. I could remember lots of words and knew grammar rules, but speaking was difficult. I now feel a lot more confident about speaking, so here are some ideas that I have taken from my own experience. Don't worry about making mistakes. Other people will still know your meaning and they probably won't notice your mistakes. Use every chance you get to speak. For example, it's a good idea to use only English in class and not to speak to your classmates in your own language. At home, you should also try practising new words and grammar learnt in class. Think about extra speaking practice outside the classroom. You can join a conversation group, such as the chat groups in the study centre. They are free to join. Practise speaking online. There are lots of websites where you can communicate with someone from all around the world. I hope this helps you and please come to me if you have other problems. Best wishes, Eliza

Hanfu is a historical style of clothing worn by Han Chinese. But the popularity of characters wearing such clothes in TV series, as well as the country's call for keeping tradition and improving national identity (身份), has led to a renewal (复兴) of the centuries-old dress.
Yet while many young people have welcomed putting a Christmas style on the centuries-old clothes, Hanfu traditionalists remain concerned at such new styles, said Tan Ningjing, the brand director of Guanzhi Weavings, one of China's largest online Hanfu stores. Tan said traditionalists believed Hanfu designs should keep their traditions and include paintings or objects from the Jin Dynasty (晋朝).
However, Han Hua, a student from Renmin University in China, advised people to be open to different styles. "I think people dressing in Hanfu can have their own choices, whether sticking to the very traditional style, or having them modernized," Han said. "Both sides are OK, or there may even be a third side that introduces some modern elements, or some Western elements into Hanfu. I'm totally fine with that."
The designers try to give the nod to the past too, blending (融合) in traditional elements with modern styles, said Tan. One set of clothes at her online store has small six-petal flower patterns, similar to the wall paintings in the famous Mogao Grottoes in central China. However, when viewed closely they also look like snowflakes (雪花).

The main characteristic of a bird is feathers. No other animal has feathers. Other important features for birds are wings and hollow bones.
Birds fly by flapping their wings and using air pressure (压力) to create lift under their wings. Just like airplanes do. The peregrine falcon is one of the fastest birds. It can reach speeds of over 100 miles per hour when diving. Feathers are important to birds because they keep them warm, help them to fly, and provide camouflage (伪装). Hollow bones also help in flying because they help make the bird light enough to fly.
Although an important characteristic of frost birds is flying. Not all birds fly. Some birds that don't fly are penguins, kiwis and ostriches. Penguins actually spend much time in the water where they are swimmers. Ostriches on the other hand are very fast runners. An ostrich can outrun a horse!
There are all sizes of birds. Hummingbirds are some of the smallest birds, while ostriches are some of the biggest. Different types of birds eat different things. Some birds feed on plants, some birds eat insects and still others eat other animals like fish, snakes, mice or rats. Birds are also known for their migrating (迁徙) patterns to large groups. Some birds will travel long distance each season to stay in a climate that is good for their survival. Birds are sometimes kept as pets. The most popular birds for pets are tropical (热带的) birds like parrots. Birds also have a history of helping out humans in different tasks.
