“If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for all of Paris is a moveable feast (流动的盛宴).”
Moveable Feast
Ernest Hemingway
Recently I read Moveable Feast by Hemingway. He looked back at his young but poor writing lives in Paris which were really an unforgettable memory. Many people say that looking back is meaningless because it can neither change the past nor bring it back to life, but I disagree as I enjoy the sense of nostalgia (怀旧感), which can remind me of how life used to be when I was younger.
As we know, there are moments when the past springs into the present. It’s often a smell or touch that will remind me of a particular place or person. A soft little cat, the sweet smell of a flower, baking bread, old books…they all create a fresh picture. We moved so many times when 1 was younger and each time the first thing my parents would do is to decorate (装饰) our bedrooms. The windows would be kept open to let the smell of the paint out but it would always remain for days which I even remember today.
Those memories are flying. But when I visit the seaside village where we used to spend many of our family holidays, I can replay all old days in my head. I can clearly remember the weather, the salty smell of the sea, our dogs playing in the water, an ice cream and that feeling of excitement after a day in the fresh air.
Although having many photos of those days, I seldom look at them as I prefer to allow my memory to create the pictures. Today we can so easily record the present with phones and cameras, upload the images and share the moment with our friends online. But, for me, that somehow takes away the feeling and creation.
5. From the book Moveable Feast, we can know ________.
A. Hemingway had never been to Paris before
B. Hemingway had a hard and poor life after leaving Paris
C. Hemingway’s life in Paris left him some unforgettable memories
D. Hemingway used to live a rich but boring life in Paris
6. The underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refers to ________.
A. the smell of the paint B. a fresh picture
C. the first thing my parents would do D. a little cat
7. The writer would choose to ________ to recall his memories.
A. look at the photos on the phone B. share the moment with friends online
C. watch the videos he recorded D. create pictures in his mind
8. From the passage, we can see that the writer is a person ________.
A. who doesn’t like reading at all B. who has a very terrible childhood
C. who values the old memories D. who prefers to stay in the same place
C
Here is how to make a model submarine (潜水艇) that dives like a real one. You’ll need: Plastic bottle Tape Four coins Small scissors Bathtub Thin rubber (橡胶的) or plastic tube (管子) Waterproof (防水的) modeling clay (黏土) — not real clay, which dissolves (溶解) in water
Ways of making: 1. Cut two small holes on one side of the bottle. Tape (潜水) and comes up from underwater coins to that side of the bottle. Remove cap; seal the tube to the bottle with clay. 2. Fill bathtub with water; put bottle in and let it fill with water. 3. Gently blow into the tube and observe what happens. Stop blowing and close the tube with your thumb. Lift your thumb and watch what happens.
What happened When you blow, air pushes out water; the bottle becomes lighter and rises. Bottle sinks (下沉) when it fills with water and coins weight it down. Coins keep holes pointing downward, so air does not escape. When you stop blowing and seal (密封) the tube with your thumb, the bottle floats. Lift your thumb, air escapes through the tube and the bottle sinks. A real submarine works this way, by filling tanks with air or water.
9. The experiment shows how to make a ________.
A. rubber boat B. real clay C. plastic bottle D. model submarine
10. The underlined word “it” in Para 3 probably refers to the “________”.
A. plastic bottle B. plastic tube C. thin rubber D. bathtub
11. If you blow into the tube, the bottle will ________.
A. become empty B. sink fast C. fill with water D. get up
12. The way to make the bottle sink is to ________.
A. blow more air in B. fill it with water C. seal the tube D. tape the holes
D
“Military-style” travel has become the latest fashion among Chinese college students, who spend as little money as possible to travel to as many places as they can during the weekend, hardly taking a break or even sleeping.
Hu Die, a college student from Inner Mongolia, is one such traveler. On April 26, she took a high-speed train from Hohhot to Tai’an, Shandong province, to climb Mount Tai. It took her about four hours to climb to the top of the mountain and, after enjoying the beautiful sunrise on April 27, she went down to visit Dai Temple at the foot.
She then went to Jinan in the afternoon, visited Daming Lake and Quancheng Square in the evening, and on the morning of April 28 went to Baotu Spring and Heihu Spring. Next, she traveled to Zibo and, after eating the famous BBQ in the city, went to Yantai and Weihai before May 4, when she arrived in Luoyang, Henan province. There, she visited the Longmen Grottoes and then returned to her university on May 5.
“We do not think we are doing something ‘crazy’ or ‘unbelievable’. We are young and energetic enough to experience such a busy travel schedule,” she said. “Moreover, when you travel with your friends, you are happy, and after the adrenaline(肾上腺素) kicks in, you do not feel tired.”
For many university students with no much money and time, the wish to see the world and travel independently is a basic drive. These young travelers are less interested in in-depth experiences and more focused on checking off popular tourist places on their travel plan. This has led to the fast growth of a type of tourism where travelers would rather give up comfort and luxury(豪华) for affordability and convenience.
13. What’s the purpose of Paragraph 1
A. To tell a story. B. To lead in the topic.
C. To introduce a person. D. To give an example.
14. What is the correct order of Hu Die’s travel experience
①visited the Longmen Grottoes ②enjoyed the sunrise ③watched two springs ④climbed the mountain ⑤ate the BBQ
A. ②④⑤③① B. ④②⑤③① C. ④②③⑤① D. ②④③⑤①
15. Which of the following can best describe “military-style” travel
A. In-depth and popular. B. Cheap and busy.
C. Comfortable and expensive. D. Slow and tiring.
16. The last paragraph is mainly about ________.
A. how to plan a “military-style” trip well
B. how to save money on a “military-style” trip
C. why “military-style” travel is less interesting
D. why college students like “military-style” travel

Chinese traditional painting and dance are two important parts of the art world. But what about when they meet each other
A dance drama called The Journey of a Legendary Landscape Painting was shown on CCTV’s Spring Festival Gala. It became popular overnight.
According to CCTV, this dance got the idea from the 900-year-old Chinese painting—A Panoruma of Rivers and Mountains (《千里江山图》), which was created by Song Dynasty painter Wang Ximeng when he was about 18 years old.
A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains is the only extant(尚存的)work by Wang. Now the painting is at the Palace Museum. It has been on show to the public only four times since 1949. The 11.9-meter-long painting records people’s lives and the natural scenery(景色)including mountains, rivers and villages of that time.
The dance show tells the story of a researcher who has worked hard to study the painting. By chance, the researcher travels back in time to see the moment when Wang was about to finish the work. As the painting was finished, the researcher guides the audience(观众)into the world of the painter. The dance show provides the audience with a new experience to better learn about the work. It shows the process of how painting is done.
The dancers each had a different hairstyle, which looked like a mountain rock. The clothes that they wore were color of green and blue, which is also poetic show of the mountains and rivers. When the dancers danced beautifully, the audience seemed to be looking at the moving mountains and rivers. Huge mountains and rivers are coming to life! More than a thousand years later, green mountains and rivers still wow people as they did long ago.
In recent years, more and more modern shows with Chinese traditional culture have received a warm welcome, especially among young people. They show great love to Chinese culture and are proud of it.

So far I’ve received a lot of gifts. However, the best gift I have ever received is a book. The book plays a very important role in my life.
When I was 10 years old, my father bought the book for me. That was Harry Potter. The book was so interesting that I lost myself in it. From then on, I began to love reading. Now, reading has become my good habit. It not only opens my mind but also makes me clever and happy.
The book is really the best gift for me and I believe that a best gift should always have positive influence on us.
