I. Learning objectives
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
understand friendship better through doing a scrapbook;
search for relevant information from different resources;
broaden their horizons through searching on the Internet or going to the library.
II. Key competence focus
Develop the ability to search for important information.
III. Predicted area of difficulty
1. Search for related information about friendship.
2. Make a page of a scrapbook.
IV. Teaching procedures
Step 1 Introduction
T asks students to think about what is a scrapbook. If they don’t know, look up the word in the dictionary.
T: Hello, everyone! Do you know what is a scrapbook A scrapbook is a book with empty pages where you can stick pictures, newspaper articles, or other things you want to keep. Can you think of the “other things” mentioned in the definition

Step 2 Preparation
1. T introduces the topic of the scrapbook.
T: Today our topic focuses on friendship, a universally acknowledged topic. You know that making a scrapbook is no easy job. So we are going to prepare for it together.
2. T helps students analyse in what aspects we can do some research on friendship and show an example to analyse.
T: In your opinion, in what aspects can we do some research on friendship Part A of the textbook gives us some ideas: songs, stories, poems and films. Can you come up with some other aspects
3. T asks Ss to think about the information that can be included for different kinds of the scrapbook pages.
T: If you choose to research on stories about friendship, what kinds of information do you need You can see this page on your books, about the friendship between Li Bai and Du Fu. Can you summarize what can be presented on a page Details about the story, some supporting information or evidence, and your comments. You can also put some illustrations and pictures on the page.
T gives some tips on finding information for a scrapbook.
T: But where can we find the materials related to friendship Here are some tips for you. Information can be found on the Internet, in a magazine or newspaper, or in libraries. Are there any other resources to add When searching for proper information, we should pay attention to checking the date of the information you find, whether printed or online and checking the source of the information you find. Generally speaking, information from official sources can be trusted.
T gives an example of films about friendship to show relevant information of a scrapbook page. Name of the film: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
Director: Ken Kwapis
Stars: Amber Tamblyn, Alexis Bledel, America Ferrera
Storyline: The film is based on the young adult book, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, by Anne Brashares. As four best friends spend their first summer apart from one another, they share a magical pair of jeans. Despite being of various shapes and sizes, each one of them fits perfectly into the pants. To keep in touch they pass these pants to each other as well as the adventures they are going through while apart.

Students are divided into four groups to search for relevant information. Each group chooses an aspect to research. Groups who have chosen the same aspect have a discussion about what information is needed for the scrapbook page and how the information can be obtained.
T: Now you are divided into four groups and you have your own field, for example, songs, stories, films and books. I’d like you to cooperate with your group members and assign some specific tasks to each member.

Step 3 Make a page together
T asks Ss what the features of a scrapbook page are.
T: Now we have to make a scrapbook page. In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a scrapbook page They are supposed to be beautifully designed, original and well-organized.
Discuss the steps to make a scrapbook page.
First, get your materials prepared. List the things you might need: a book with blank pages inside, pens in various colours, small decorations such as coloured tapes.
Second, organize your materials and ideas. Gather things that carry your information about friendship. Think carefully about the layout. (T shows the layout of a scrapbook page)
Third, stick your materials to the scrapbook page.
Fourth, decorate your pages with collages, glitter, stickers or ribbon.
Ss finish the page in a group.

Step 5 Make a scrapbook
T asks one student to make the pages into a scrapbook.
T: Who would like to be the volunteer to make a scrapbook with the stapler

T asks one student to put the scrapbook on the wall for everyone to enjoy after class.
