B[2024宁波九校期末]
Before going abroad, I was very concerned about culture shock, but it turned out that I had a harder time dealing with reverse(逆向的) culture shock when returning ing back has been a tougher transition than expected. It's not just about transitioning back to home life; it's also about handling the strange situation of being a different person in the same old environment. I am most terrified of waking up in a few months and feeling like I'm the same person I was before I studied abroad.
This situation is especially strange with people who have known me for a long time, like my parents, who witnessed all my major life changes before this one. I didn't realize how much I'd changed until I interacted with them and close friends. Despite only being away for three and a half months, I quickly noticed the differences between who I was before and who I am now. Over the past few weeks at home, I've been wondering how to maintain the positive changes and qualities gained from my semester abroad.
I've realized that surroundings and situations greatly influence the mindset, and keeping a certain mindset while losing its corresponding(相对应的) environment is challenging. For instance, being in Madrid taught me to be more relaxed and stress free. However, returning to Penn State with its demanding course load makes maintaining that mentality(心态) difficult. I've come to realize the problem that perpetual stress about school isn't healthy, especially after experiencing a semester of travel, fun, and academic success. Therefore, I've decided to work hard and study as usual but occasionally give myself a break, and do what I can to avoid getting over stressed about tests and assignments. This means I will put in effort when necessary in order to make sure I am always catching up.
Coming home has been more challenging than expected, but I'm confident I'll get through it in the next few weeks. Nevertheless, I'm determined to maintain the important lessons I learned about myself and others in Madrid.
( ) 4. What was the author's biggest concern when returning home
A. Going back to his original self. B. Adapting to new surroundings.
C. Experiencing culture shock. D. Missing old acquaintances.
( ) 5. What did the author realize after returning home
A. He should make his family familiar with his positive changes.
B. He should change his mentality to care less about his study.
C. He should adapt his mindset to fit into the old learning environment.
D. He should apply himself to his study to stay ahead of class.
( ) 6. What does the underlined word “perpetual” in Paragraph 3 mean
A. Current. B. Improper. C. Unnecessary. D. Continuous.
( ) 7. What is the passage mainly about
A. The sufferings of reverse culture shock.
B. The reflections on personal growth.
C. The adaptation to new environments.
D. The success in academic performance.
C[2024泉州期末]
Active learning is a method that has students learning at its centre and fully participating in class activities. It focuses on not only the content but also the way they learn. Students are encouraged to “think hard”, practise skills, solve problems, struggle with complex questions, propose solutions, and explain ideas in their own words through writing and discussion, rather than receive information inactively from the teacher.
Active learning is based on the Theory of Constructivism(建构主义理论), which stresses the fact that learners build their own understanding upon their existing knowledge. Researchers also believe that learning should be closely connected and within a meaningful context. Besides, learning experiences for young people should be appropriate to their level of development.
There is now a wealth of research that shows us that simply telling students what they need to know doesn't help them to gain a deep understanding of a subject area. Instead, teachers should challenge their students' thinking. Teachers should also keep students engaged and active in their own learning process so as to build students' knowledge and understanding.
By giving students greater involvement and control over their learning, active learning increases students' interest and develops their learning ability. This means that students are better able to continue learning once they have left school and college. It also prepares students better for both higher education and the workplace because analytical(分析的) skills help them to be better at solving problems. Universities and employers value this.
Since an active learning method encourages all students to stay focused on their learning, teachers will often see students show greater interest in their studies. They also enjoy the level of academic discussion with their students which an active learning approach encourages.
( ) 8. What is the purpose of Paragraph 2
A. To advocate active learning.
B. To further explain active learning.
C. To present application of active learning.
D. To evidence the effects of active learning.
( ) 9. How should teachers promote active learning in students
A. By offering ideas. B. By giving explanation.
C. By feeding information. D. By encouraging thinking.
( )10. What can be a benefit of active learning
A. Higher education admission rate.
B. Better lifelong learning ability.
C. Fewer complex questions while studying.
D. Greater teacher control over students' learning.
( )11. Which aspect of active learning does the passage focus on
A. Its features. B. Its rules.
C. Its background. D. Its development.
D[2023郴州期末]
In late 2021, a scientist named Bohmann from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark and her team found a new way to study animals. They discovered many types of animals in the Copenhagen Zoo and around it, even when the animals were not inside the zoo. They used a special method to find the animals: they absorbed air through a filter(过滤器) to get DNA from it.
The air we breathe is mostly made up of nitrogen(氮气) and oxygen, but it also has a tiny bit of DNA. Animals drop bits of their DNA into the environment all the time, from their skin, waste, fur, feathers and more. This DNA can help us understand what animals live in a certain area. Scientists have found DNA in rain, soil, and honey, and even in water. Air is everywhere, so it's easy to take samples from it. It's easier to collect DNA from the air than people thought.
At a zoo in Cambridgeshire, a biologist named Elizabeth Clare from York University in Toronto did some tests. She used a special vacuum(真空吸尘器) to get DNA from the air near the zoo's fences. She found DNA from many different animals, even from far away. Clare thought the tests were very successful.
At first, Clare and Bohmann thought their experiments might not work at all. But they were surprised to find lots of different animals, 49 in Denmark and 25 in England, both inside and outside the zoo. They even found DNA from fish that were used as food for other animals. Bohmann said it was amazing.
This new way of using a DNA vacuum could help us find out where endangered animals live and protect them better. It could change how we watch over different types of animals and help us make better decisions about the environment.
( )12. What does the presence of DNA in the air suggest
A. Animals are dropping DNA.
B. The air is polluted.
C. There is a high concentration of oxygen.
D. Nitrogen is the main component of DNA.
( )13. How did Clare collect DNA at the zoo in Cambridgeshire
A. By testing the animals.
B. By analyzing soil samples.
C. By collecting samples from water.
D. Using a special vacuum near the fences.
( )14. What potential effect does this new way of DNA vacuuming have
A. It could improve air quality.
B. It could help protect animals better.
C. It could increase the number of zoos.
D. It could help change animals' DNA.
( )15. What can be the best title for the text
A. Doing Research on Animal DNA
B. Vacuuming Animal DNA Out of the Air
C. Extracting DNA from Animal Bodies Directly
D. Mapping the Habitats of Endangered Animals

36 year old Mary was a single mother living in a small town in Cleveland, Ohio with her 3 year old twin sons, Jack and James. She worked hard to provide for her children, doing a few part time jobs to make ends meet. In spite of the challenges, Mary managed to give them a happy and stable(稳定的) childhood.
One Saturday morning, Mary was at home with her children, preparing breakfast for them. Jack was beside her while James was playing alone in the bedroom next to the kitchen. It was a typical weekend, filled with laughter and warmth. Little did they know something unexpected was just around the corner.
As Mary was busy with the food, a fire broke out in the kitchen. Panicked, Mary took hold of Jack and rushed towards the front door. They made it to safety only to find James remained stuck inside. Mary put Jack down and turned back to get James out, but in such a hurry and panic, she missed a step and fell on the ground. Her right ankle got sprained(扭伤) so seriously that she couldn't stand up. Mary sat on the ground helplessly, her tears mixed with screams, “My kid is still in the house. Somebody, help me!”
At that very moment, Simon, 52, a former army soldier in the same community as Mary, happened to pass her house and saw the terrible scene. He immediately ran across the yard to ask the crying mother where her kid exactly was. In a shaking voice, Mary responded, “In the bedroom next to the kitchen.” The fire spread quickly and the house was filled with thick smoke. Simon looked around and saw a blanket hanging beside a pool full of water in the middle of the yard.

On one hand, short videos are a good way to spread news or knowledge, through which people can share interesting things, gain knowledge and support, or just relax. On the other hand, they can be a waste of time. What's more, we might get incorrect information from these videos.
I think we can consider short videos as a way to relax in our free time. Meanwhile, we should develop the ability to tell truth from lies.
