Many English sayings use parts of the body to describe things unrelated to the body. For example, if something costs an arm and a leg, it is very expensive. And a green thumb means to be good at growing vegetables, flowers and other plants.
Well, what about your shoulder This part connects your arm to your body. And the shoulder finds its way into many sayings. If you shoulder something, you accept it as your responsibility and you give support.
This idea of taking responsibility and giving support leads us to some other“shoulder”sayings. For example, when we lean(倚)on someone's shoulder, we ask for their help. When we cry on someone 's shoulder, they are there for support.
There is another way our shoulders give us support. lf you are successful in your field but others have come before you, you can say you are standing on the pioneers’ shoulders. This means you have not succeeded on your own. You have learned from others in the same field who had earlier successes.
Now, from our shoulders, let’s move up to our heads. Our heads are centered between our shoulders. So, it should not be surprising that we have a couple of sayings that use both. If you have a good head on your shoulders, you are thoughtful and smart, You do the right thing, people can count on you , and you often achieve success in life.
This quality, people say , often puts your head and shoulders above the rest. This means you are much better than those in a similar field or competition, For example, you are preparing to run in a race, You have clocked the fastest time, and you have trained more than all the other runners. That certainly makes your head and shoulders above the rest.
28. What does“a green thumb" refer to
A. A man who is responsible. B. A person with a gift for gardening.
C. A child whose favorite color is green. D. An expert in environmental protection.
29. What does a person mean if he says he stands on others' shoulders
A. He takes great pride in his success.
B. He considers himself a pioneer in his field.
C. He is ready to give his support whenever needed.
D. He recognises the efforts of those going before him.
30. What does the text mainly talk about
A. Influence of culture shock. B. Different parts of the body.
C. Importance of continuous learning. D. Meanings of certain expressions.
31. In which part of a newspaper can we read this text
A. Culture. B. Health. C. History. D. Travel.

The American space agency NASA is preparing to send a spaceship to explore more detailed information on water sources on the moon.
In a recent statement, NASA said the spaceship passed a series of important tests. It is now completing additional software testing designed to simulate(模拟) different elements of the trip, or mission.
The spaceship will use two science instruments to carry out its task. Both instruments are designed to map the moon in search of areas holding water, as well as what forms the water is in.The instruments use X-ray technology to produce highly detailed mapped images, thus allowing us to understand how surface temperature influences water and improving our knowledge of the presence and distribution(分布)of this matter on the moon.
The spaceship weighs about 200 kilograms and is about 3. 5 meters in length with its solar plate fully opened. The solar plate , which covers an area of about 5 square meters , is an important part. It is made up of high-efficiency solar cells that can turn sunlight into electricity with an impressive conversion rate(转换率) of over 30%, This enables the spaceship to produce about 150 watts of power.
The spaceship is designed to provide scientists with new information about how much movement of water molecules( 分子) there is on the moon. Understanding whether water molecules move freely across the surface of the moon or are locked inside rock is also scientifically important.NASA has said its search for water on the moon is important because it is seen as a necessary resource(资源) for future exploration activities, Astronauts could turn it into drinking water, or use it to cool equipment, to create oxygen to breathe or even to drive rockets.

If you are trying to lose weight , including climbing stairs(楼梯) into your daily exercise might be the best choice.
Stairs are a common sight in many places. 36 Studies have shown stair-climbing is a better workout than walking on level ground--They show that you burn about 20 times more calories(卡路里)climbing up stairs than walking on flat ground, Even by going down stairs, you burn around 5 times more because your muscles(肌肉) have to work to slow you down.
37 As it turns out, handrails(扶手) are fixed up along most stairs in very tall buildings. The muscle involvement(参与) is greatly increased by getting the arms involved in the exercise. Of course, they are relatively small muscles in the arms, but remember every bit counts. What's more, using handrails offers more safety.
If stair-climbing were an Olympic sport, Australian Suzy Walsham would undoubtedly have her hands full of gold medals. She has won 10 races up New York City’s Empire State Building—officially 1,576 stairs—and five climbs up the Eiffel Tower. In total, Walsham has won more than100 international stair races. 38
Yuri Yoshizumi won last year's women's division of the Stairclimbing World Championships in her native Osaka, Japan. 39 It included 1,610 stairs. And she finished it in 10 minutes, 20.06 seconds.
Stair-climbing does not take much time. And it can easily become part of an exercise plan 40 You can increase the number of stairs you climb every day or week. What's more, stair-climbing can also help improve balance.
