In 1990,aged just 22, Tang Yulin realized his dream of becoming a third-generation forest ranger(护林员)in the reserve(保护区).In the initral years ofhis work, the reserve lacked electricityand the rough mountain environment made patrols(巡逻)physically demanding.Rising at 3:30 am every day, Tang Yulin would prepare his meals in darkness before heading up the mountains at 4 am to observe and document the activities and habits of the golden snub-nosed monkeys before they awoke.
Spending nearly 200 days and nights in the mountains each year, Tang Yulin and his colleagues often had to build living places when unable to go back the same day. Through years of observation and learning, he became an expert on the reserve's wildlife, serving as a valuable resource for researchers working in the area.
Following the development of infrastructure(基础设施) in the reserve in recent years,Tang Yulin's patrols have become more manageable. The golden snub-nosed monkeys have also grown
used to closer human interaction, with more than 140 research monkeys successfully relocated to lower-altitude areas near rivers, where they now boom.
Today, the reserve boasts the highest density of these monkeys in the country, making it a major location for observing them in the wild. Inspired by Tang Yulin's devotion, his nephew Tang Xiaogang joined the ranks of forest rangers in 2019,becoming a fourth-generation guardian of the lush mountains and its monkeys.
“As the monkeys feast on leaves in the trees, and I snack on biscuits below, a bond of trust has formed between us. Seeing the golden snub-nosed monkeys increase here is the greatest honor for me,”Tang Yulin says, reflecting on his work.
In the misty mountains, Tang Yulin and hs fellow guardians are pillars(支柱)of conservation, ensuring the balance between nature and humanity for future generations.
24.What did TangYulin dream of becoming when he was young
A.An electrician. B.A guardian. C.A researcher. D.An expert.
25.What is one of the problems Tang Yulin faced in the past
A.Food shortage. B.Lack of company.
C.The decline of Monkey number. D.Physical challenges.
26.What makes him most proud of his job according to Tang Yulin
A.Becoming an expert on the reserve's environment.
B.Serving as a significant resource for researchers.
C.Witnessing the boom of the monkeys in the reserve.
D.Inspiring his nephew to join the ranks of forest rangers.
27.Which word best describes Tang Yulin
A.Romantic. B.Committed. C.Shy. D.Generous.

Scientists have made a significant breakthrough in the field of genetic editing with the discovery of a new CRISPR system, named CRISPR-CasX. This new system offers potential advantages over the existing CRISPR-Cas9 technology, making it more precise and efficient in editing genes.
The research was conducted by a team of scientists from leading institutions around the world.CRISPR-Cas9 has revolutionized the field of gene editing since its discovery in 2012, allowing
scientists to make precise changes to the DNA of living organisms. However, it has some limitations, such as the potential for off-target effects and the need for complex delivery systems.
CRISPR-CasX,on the other hand, offers a more streamlined approach. Unlike CRISPR-Cas9,which requires a separate enzyme(酶)to cut the DNA,CRISPR-CasX uses a single protein that both fixes to the target DNA and makes the necessary cuts. This makes it more efficient and reduces the risk of off-target effects.
The researchers tested CRISPR-CasX in a variety of cell types, including human cells, and found that it was able to edit genes with high precision and efficiency. They also demonstrated that CRISPR-CasX could be used to correct mutations(突变) in genes associated with genetic diseases, such as cystic fibrosis and Huntington's disease.
One of the most exciting potential applications of CRISPR-CasX is in the field of gene therapy.By using this new system, scientists could potentially develop new treatments for-a wide range of genetic diseases, including those that are currently incurable. Additionally, CRISPR-CasX could be used to enhance the effectiveness of existing gene therapies by reducing the risk of off-target effects and improving the delivery of gene-editing tools.
The discovery of CRISPR-CasX is a major step forward in the field of genetic editing and holds great promise for the future of gene therapy. However,as with any new technology, there are still many challenges to overcome before it can be used safely and effectively in humans. The researchers hope that their findings will inspire further research and development in this exciting new area of biology.
28.What does the underlined word “revolutionized” in paragraph 2 most probably mean
A.Analysed. B.Transformed. C.Threatened. D.Examined.
29.What advantage does the CRISPR-CasX system have over CRISPR-Cas9
A. It can be used to edit more genes at once.
B.It can be used to treat patients with genetic diseases.
C.It requires no cuts when editing genes.
D. It doesn't need a separate enzyme to cut the DNA.
30. Which of the following is mentioned as a potential application of CRISPR-CasX
A.Blocking the delivery of gene-editing tools.
B. Replacing the current gene therapies.
C.Treating currently incurable genetic diseases.
D. Increasing off-target effects in gene therapy.
31.What is the last paragraph mainly about
A.The future of genetic editing.
B. The disadvantage of CRISPR-CasX.
C.The challenges CRISPR-CasX has brought.
D.The impact of the discovery of CRISPR-CasX.

In Massachusetts,a family has filed a lawsuit(提起诉讼)against the Hingham Public School district, saying that the school unfairly punishedtheir son for using AI on an AP US History assignment(作业).
Dale and Jennifer Harris filed the lawsuit. They claim their son, a student at Hingham High School, was recently accused of using AI on an assignment. The school decided to punish him by giving him a 65 on the assignment, onepoint above failing, and having him stay at school on a Saturday.
However, the parents claim that the punishment went beyond that. They claim that he was not allowed to join the National Honor Society and that the incident harmed his college application process.
The parents also argue that the school has no official policy on AI use and that any rules it does have are not valid(有效的)since the state's education authority has not provided official guidance. They also claim their son did not use AI to draft the assignment; instead, he only used it for research.
However, the parents' argument about the lack of an AI policy is indeed weak. The school notes that their handbook does prohibit the use of "unauthorized technology" and "unauthorized use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's work" to complete assignments. They aso say they have since allowed the student to join the National Honors Society.
The school district has taken an action to try to dismiss(摒除)the lawsuit.
If the lawsuit moves forward,it will be one of the first legal challenges for schools enforcing AI policies. It has the potential to set a precedent(先例) that could decide AI's future use in schools.
Despite the weak chances for success, it's extremely disturbing that parents are taking a school to court to change their child's grade. Basically, the lawsuitisn't really about AI; rather, it appears
to be a tale-as-old-as-time fight between parents and educators in an era backdropped by a competitive college admissions landscape.
32.The family filed the lawsuit because they believed their son didn't
A.use AI for the assignment B.pass the assignment
C.succeed in applying for auniversity D.cheat with AI for the assignment
33. Which of the following is the school's argument against the lawsuit
A. The punishment is based on valid rules concerning technology.
B.AI encourages students to imitate thoughts of another author.
C. It never prohibited students to join the National Honors Society.
D.The lawsuit will be dismissed by the school district.
34.What's the possible influence of the lawsuit
A. It will decide AI's future.
B.It will result in the prohibition of AI in schools.
C.It might lead to more legal challenges for schools.
D. It might increase the competition of colleague admissions.
35.What is this text
A.A news report. B.Entertainment news.
C.A science fiction. D.An argumentative essay.
