One day when I was 15 years old, I was making food in the kitchen. My brother came in. He placed his beef next to my thick one and said, “Courtney, your beef is bigger than mine. You don’t need to eat; you’re too fat.” Then he walked out laughing. From then on, I was unwilling to wear shorts until I was 30 years old. For the next 15 years, I spent summer after summer roasting in long pants.
But then I met Ragen Chastain. I couldn’t believe that this almost 300-pound woman who, like myself, was so energetic and happy in her own skin. I listened as she shared her own journey to recovery and self-love. She talked about how amazing our bodies are, simply because of the things they do every day — like breathing, pumping blood to every cell and walking.
Walking! I suddenly realized how foolish I’d been for so long. There are people who are born without legs, or who lack properly working legs, or who lose their legs, and I’d been hiding my perfectly strong, healthy and beautiful legs in shame. The next day, I bought three pairs of shorts and a sundress and spent the entire summer letting my legs see the sun and feel the breeze.
The next time anyone comments on your body in a negative way, look them straight in the eye, smile and say, “If what you see bothers you so much, feel free to practice the ancient art of looking somewhere else.” That’s Ragen’s own creation, but I don’t think she’ll mind if you use it.
4. What can we know about the author when she was a teenager
A. She was fat. B. She disliked beef.
C. Her parents loved her more. D. Her brother always helped her.
5. Which of the following can best describe Ragen Chastain
A. Honest. B. Clever. C. Positive. D. Responsible.
6. Why did the author buy three pairs of shorts
A. The shorts were on sale. B. She was inspired by Ragen Chastain.
C. The shorts were suitable for the weather. D. She wanted to give them to Ragen Chastain.
7. What does the author want to tell us
A. Dress whatever we want and ignore others’ judgement.
B. There are many people who are as fat as us in the world.
C. Love ourselves and don’t care about others’ negative opinions.
D. Eat as you like and there’s no need to care about our bodies.

Imagine being able to see perfectly in the dark. This dream has become a reality thanks to a newly developed technology. This technology consists of a thin film that will be placed on the lenses (镜片) of regular glasses. The film is inexpensive to make, easy to produce, and is lightweight. It is actually 100 times thinner than a hair. Yet, despite its tiny size, its performance is impressive; this special film allows you to see in the dark.
This technology is able to transform infrared light (红外光), normally invisible to the human eye, and turn this into images people can pared to animals, humans have very impoverished night vision. Over the years, night vision devices have been developed to help the medical, industrial, and scientific worlds. Scientists are able to study night-time animals by using infrared cameras, while companies use infrared imaging for food quality control.
Traditional infrared devices work by discovering the heat of an object. They use a cooler in low temperature and can be easily influenced by the heat noise. Such shortcoming led the team into exploring an improved device. Their new device is able to function at room temperature.
As the new technology is unlike the traditional devices, it has many future uses. Once this new night vision is available to all, it could save lives. Drivers will be able to see better at night, especially when driving on unlit roads. Police can use them when searching at night, and hikers who lose their way can feel more confident walking in the dark.
The inventors are excited to make the practical application. “While this is the first experiment, we are actively working to further advance the technology. Of course, the many uses are exciting and seeing in the dark opens up a new world for all,” said Mohsen Rahmani, lead developer of the technology.
8. What do we know about the film according to the first paragraph
A It costs a lot to make. B. It is difficult to produce.
C. It helps us see in the dark. D. It looks like regular glasses.
9. What does the underlined word “impoverished” in paragraph 2 mean
A. Clear. B. Effective. C. Amazing. D. Poor.
10. What can be inferred about the technology in Mohsen’s words
A. It needs to be further developed.
B. It has been available to common people.
C It is not exciting enough to scientists.
D. It has become a hit in the experiment.
11. What’s the text mainly about
A. New technology developing very quickly.
B. Exciting technology making the invisible visible.
C. Especially useful infrared devices in the dark.
D. Several ways to make people see things more clearly.

You probably take many steps to protect your computer from getting a virus, but what about your cell phone Cell phones are basically mini-computers, so, believe it or not, they too can get viruses.
“Viruses and malware(恶意软件)should not be a major concern to the average consumer who uses their device to make phone calls, take pictures, and download a few well-known apps from the major app marketplaces,” Tim Katsch Vice President of iDropped said. “If a user is downloading a lot of apps, changing and exploring settings within the device, and visiting a large number of websites from unknown sources, virus and malware protection should be kept on their mind.” If your phone gets a virus it can mess up your data, put random charges on your bill, and get private information such as your bank account number, credit card information, passwords, and your location.
The most common way that you could get a virus on your phone would be through downloading an infected app. Viruses can also get on your phone when you click on strange links or open up an email that contains a virus. Connecting to an unsecured wireless network in a public place is also a way for hackers(黑客)to get private information from your device.
If you're still convinced that your phone might get a virus, there are anti-virus apps that you can download that will constantly scan your phone to make sure it hasn't developed a virus, Apps like these will also check things before you download them to ensure that they are safe. Another tip is to always look over your cell phone bill every month to make sure there aren't charges from apps that you never downloaded.
Technology is getting smarter, but so are hackers, and it's important to always be cautious with anything you do on your phone. Many people store a lot of personal information on their phones, and while that might make life a little more convenient, it can also do a lot of damage if hacked.
12. What can we learn from Tim Katsch's words
A. The wireless network in the public places is safe to use.
B. Viruses and malware will most probably attack average phones.
C. Downloading a lot of apps will protect your phone from being hacked.
D. The average consumer needn't worry much about a virus or malware.
13. What's the most common way that your phone gets a virus
A. Downloading an infected app.
B. Clicking on close friends' links.
C. Connecting to your mobile data.
D. Changing your private information.
14. What does the last paragraph convey
A. Harm set, harm get.
B. Every coin has two sides.
C. Kill two birds with one stone.
D. Technology makes life smarter.
15. What may be the best title for the text
A. Anti-Virus Apps Make Your Cell Phone Safe
B. Viruses and Malware Damage Your Cell Phone
C. Worried About Your Cell Phone Catching a Virus
D. Ready to Fight Against the Hackers to Your Cell Phone

However, there was hardly any chance that Carol's family moved to the city as they had everything in the village.
One day, Carol fell asleep during the early noon and she had a sound sleep. Of course, she had a strange dream. She saw her grandmother in her dream as a fairy and her deceased grandmother granted her a wish. Carol requested her that she should love to enjoy the city life as she always desired.
Grandmother understood the desire of Carol, but still wanted to convince her that the peaceful village life is better than the city life.
She told Carol, “Baby, you cannot have access to fresh fruits and vegetables from plants as you have at your home. You cannot breathe fresh air. You cannot play with animals. You can hardly find any trees. You will not find peace as you see here! Do you still want to go to the city ”
