An online experiment shows that people trust technology too much even if it has potentially (潜在地)dangerous flaws (缺陷),Wang Qian reports.
In his 1950 paper Computing Machinery1 and Intelligence, British mathematician and computer scientist Alan Turing presented the question of whether a computer could talk like a human. Based on his recent one-month experiment, for Xiang Jinyu, a 23-year-old Al algorithm (计算程序)researcher in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, the answer is "yes".
Using large language models, Xiang created an account (账户) on Zhihu pretending (假装) to be a woman working in Shanghai and born in 1993. Within 31 days, the account answered 109 questions, without anyone noticing the "woman" was actually Al Mostly.
Only one Zhihu user named Buyun questioned the account, saying that it appeared to change the role, from male to female, and young to old, but it seems that almost no one else doubted the answers from the account were being produced by Al
"In the experiment, 1 witnessed how the Al influenced, encouraged and even hurt a human user, whose life might have been changed as a result. It was like a warning that if used for malicious (恶意的)purpose, such accounts could cause risks, such as controlling public opinion and so on," Xiang says.
On Aug 5, he posted a notice on the account showing it was an Al account and part of an experiment to see whether social media robot accounts could be identified (识别), and warned users not to accept or trust any of the answers or opinions posted.
"Although the experiment ended, Al's influence in real life continues. What if an Al has prejudice (偏见)? What if it is quite radical (激进)? What if it tells people to give up Or worse " he wrote, ending the notice with an open question.
After his experiment, Zhihu contacted Xiang, requiring that all the content should be labeled as Al-created and showed that although the technology offers chances, the platform has faced the potential challenges.
What did Alan Turing present in his 1950 paper .
The use of Al in our modem society.
The creation of large language models.
Whether computers could talk like humans.
Whether Al had influence on public opinion.
What did Xiang Jinyu witness during his experiment
The Al was easily identified as a robot.
The Al was questioned by many Zhihu users.
The Al only provided wonderful suggestions.
The Al influenced and even hurt human users.
Why did Xiang Jinyu post a notice on tlie Al account on Aug 5
To explain how to use new technology.
To improve the use of Al in social media.

Andrew Parker, an English inventor, artist and zoologist at the University of Oxford, thinks color is not a thing. The world's best colors, he says, come not from pigments (颜料),but from materials arranged into crystalline nanostructures (晶体纳米结构).And Parker thinks that we will have colors far richer and more shining than the common colors that we can see today. He calls it structural color (结构色).
Structural color was first recorded in the 17th century, in some birds5 feathers, but it is only since the invention of the electron microscope (电子显微镜),in the 1930s, that wc have known how it works. Structural color is completely different from pigments. Pigments absorb (吸收) light, however, structural color reflects light into special wavelengths. The results are lively, often shining.
Paiker has been working for over twenty years on a method to reproduce these nanostructures in a lab, to produce the most amazing nature's colors. "The brightest colors/ says Parker, "are being produced from completely transparent (透明的)materials.[footnoteRef:1] [footnoteRef:2] [footnoteRef:3] [footnoteRef:4] He decided to reproduce some colours to prove his idea. [1: What makes people know how structural color works
The development of some modem labs.
The appearance of the electron microscope.
The documentary about some birds5 leathers.
Tlie different backgrounds of structural colour.] [2: What is Parker's purpose according to Paragraph 3
A. To keep his secret in the lab. B. To produce different materials.
C. To make the most amazing colours. D. To find the best method to spread light.] [3: From paragraph 4, we can know that.
The sun plays an important role in our daily life
Blues and purples arc brighter than deep oranges
Parker has found the most beautiful color in nature
Parker keeps the details of producing structural colour] [4: How does Parker find the future of structural color
A. Hopeful. B. Doubtful. C. Dangerous. D. Exciting.
]
Parker has now found a way to produce large numbers of what he calls "Pure Structural Color". Deep oranges can remain their advantage in the sun; blues and purples also have their brightness. Parker calls them the brightest colors in the world, and he keeps all the details. In this way, others can not say that the exact method is not found m nature.
Next, Parker hopes to make use of the way butterflies shine gold and silver to make special paints, and to learn from the cuttlefish (墨鱼)how tc make objects change colors. Parker sees a future that structural color will be used instead of pigments.

It's bad enough when the pressure (压力)is coming from your friends! That5s what just happened to me at my friend's birthday party.
Chloe invited only three guests: Mareya, Madison, and me. After dinner, we sang and danced along to our favorite songs.
A little later, Chloe said, "It's scary-movie time!"
"You're joking around again, right " said Mareya. "The movie won't really be scary, will it ”

"You're probably remembering what it was like to watch scary movies when you were younger," said Madison. "But it's not like you5re babies anymore. So come on! It'll be fbn."
"Exactly!" said Chloe. "My big brother has seen this movie five times, and he says ifs hardly even scary at
"Besides,'' said Madison, "it's Chloe's birtliday wish. So don't you think you should try to watch it, even for just a couple of minutes "
"Well," said Mareya. T guess just a couple of minutes could be OK."
I sighed. "I guess if it matters that much, I can try for a little bit too."

“Me too,,, said Mareya. "Maybe you can just tell us what happened after ,,

"Good idea," said Chloe. "There's no way I'm going to close my eyes tonight.,,
"You know," said Madison, "I think I'd better call my mom and get a ride home.,,
"You can borrow Oinksy (玩偶),"Mareya said, "He's good at helping people sleep
Here's what ended up happening: Madison decided to go home, Chloe slept with Oinksy, and Mareya and I were extremely glad we'd watched only a couple of minutes of the movie! As far as your special situation goes, your friends can do a trick if they want to, but that doesn't mean you have to do it. When there is pressure from your friends, the most important thing to remember is:
Trust your sense no matter what!
Oh, and if your friends ever refuse to remain friends unless you do what they want, you might want to try playing with some different people.

Possible version one:
Little effort makes a difference
Hello, everyone!
Not every effort will be successful, but every effort is preparing for our success.
Everything we do, no matter how small, brings us closer to our goals, just as a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and oceans are formed by gathering many small streams.
I still remember that when I first started to learn to ride a bike, I was scared and kept falling. But I didn’t give up. I tried a little bit every day and learned to get a balance. Then, I could ride freely.
Little effort makes a difference. A small step for one thing, a giant leap for our growth. Set small goals, keep going and be happy with every small success, and we will certainly get what we want!
Thank you!
Possible version two:
Little effort makes a difference
Hello, everyone!
Not every effort will be successful, but every effort is preparing for our success.
What does effort mean Effort is not just about achieving a goal. It’s about the journey of self-improvement and learning.
Once I had difficulty with my maths. I often got low marks in exams, but I didn’t give up. I spent hours doing maths exercises every day. I also asked my teacher and classmates for help. What’s more, I began to study test papers and learn from my mistakes. After months of efforts, it worked. How happy I was when I got a much better result in the last exam!
Just as an old saying goes, “No pain, no gain.” This experience taught me that no matter how small effort is, it can lead to great results. I think we should keep trying and face difficulties bravely in our life.
Thank you!
