Why not buy a pair of trousers 为什么不买一条裤子呢
a pair of 意为“一双/对/副……。在英语中，有一些名词不能直接用不定冠词或数词修饰，需要用pair(s) of修饰，如shoes、socks、gloves、trousers、g官lasses、scissors等。
e.g. a pair of glasses 一副眼镜；two pairs of socks 两双袜子
注意：这类名词一般不能用one或ones来代替，而要用pair或pairs。
e.g. My shoes are too old. I want to buy a new pair.

Summary
1. 定义
在连贯地说话或朗读时,在同一个意群(即短语或从句)中,如果相邻的两个词前者以辅音音素结尾,后者以元音音素开头,就要自然地将辅音和元音相拼,构成一个音节,这就是连读。
2.英语连读发音原则
辅音+元音 ，即前一个单词由辅音结尾，后一个单词由
元音开头，自然地连起来。
