Familiarize students with related vocabulary: Terra Cotta Warriors, Yellow River, Mogao Caves. Skill Objectives Practice reading comprehension and answering questions. Develop oral communication skills through role-play and discussions. Emotional Objectives Encourage curiosity about Chinese culture and history. Promote collaboration in pair and group activities.
重点 Describing the special features of the Mogao Caves and other Silk Road destinations in pleting conversations and timelines using proper context and grammar.
难点 1. Understanding the cultural and historical significance of the cities along the Silk Road. 2. Using correct sentence structures to express travel plans.
教学过程 Step 1: Warm-Up Activity: Brainstorming Show a video of the Silk Road on the screen. Ask students: “What do you know about the Silk Road Have you heard of Xi’an, Lanzhou, Dunhuang, or Kashi ” Encourage them to share simple sentences or key words they know. (Purpose: Activate prior knowledge and build interest.) Step 2: Reading and Vocabulary Before reading Students skim the email and choose what place will Jenny visit. While reading Activity 1 Students read the email from Jenny and answer the questions on the book. ①How will Jenny and her classmates go to Lanzhou from Xi’an ②Where are the Mogao Caves ③What is special about this trip Activity 2 Vocabulary Review Ask students to underline the key destinations and activities mentioned in the email. Introduce and explain the following terms with visuals. Students repeat the words after the teacher. (Purpose: Enhance reading comprehension and expand vocabulary related to the topic.) Activity 3 Timeline Completion Distribute a blank timeline with key destinations (Xi’an, Lanzhou, Dunhuang, Beijing). Students use the email content to fill in the activities for each city. (Purpose: Improve students’ ability to read for details and integrate the whole text.) Post reading After reading, students finish the exercise of page 3, which is related to the topic. Step 4: Role-Play Activity 1: Role Play Distribute the incomplete conversation between Li Ming and his mum. In pairs, students complete the dialogue based on the email content. Example: Li Ming: “What will they see in Dunhuang ” Mum: “They will see the Mogao Caves and the beautiful paintings.” Practice the dialogue in pairs. Activity 2 Silk Road Adventure Role-Play Create a scenario where students act as travelers and tour guides. Example dialogue: Traveler: “What will we do in Xi’an ” Tour Guide: “You will visit the Terra Cotta Warriors and try Chinese food.” Encourage a few pairs to perform their dialogues in front of the class. (Purpose: Enhance speaking skills and boost confidence in using English in real-life contexts.) Step 5 Dig in Watch a video about traveling. After watching, discuss with the students about the question”What’s the meaning of travelling ”. Encourage students to speak it out. (Purpose: Enhance speaking skills and try to guide students have a more various understanding about lives. ) Step 6 Language points Step 7 Exercises Finish the exercises on PPT. Step 8 Homework Basic assignments: Find the expressions related to travel destinations, means of transportation and plans in the text and sort them out in your notebook Practical assignments: Use the words and phrases you've learned to write a short passage of about 100 words to describe a trip in your dream. At least three knowledge points learned in this class should be used, such as the simple future tense, "look forward to", etc. Expansion assignments: Look up information to learn about two other famous scenic spots along the Silk Road, and be able to briefly introduce their characteristics with the sentences you've learned. Each introduction of the scenic spots should be no less than 50 words.
