In 2013,my husband Robin took a new job in Ghana. We relocated from London, where I worked as a photographer, to the capital,Accra. Robin worked, but my visa didn't permit me to, and I was left homesick and had no purpose.
With few people around, I turned to nature. I photographed horses and considered the outdoors the place where I felt most alive.
In September,after one bad thunderstorm, when resting in the yard,I found a bird, barely a month old,on the ground. He was abandoned by his flock(群). His eyes were shut. He was too young to survive alone. I placed him in a cardboard box and stayed up all night, researching how to care him. So I turned to some bird’s experts.
Experts meticulously examine the little bird, carefully observing its plumage(翅膀), beak(鸟嘴), and eyes for any signs of illness or injury. They gently handle the creature, checking its wings for mobility and assessing its overall health. With a wealth of knowledge and experience, these specialists are dedicated to ensuring the well-being of our fine-feathered friends.After the examination, an expert said that it would take 12 weeks to prepare him for the wild.
For the next 84 days, the tiny bird lived on me. He would fly alongside me. As he learned to fly, he'd make short flights from my hand, to my shoulder, and then settled on my hair. I never named him because I had to remind myself that he needed to return to the wild. In return for putting his life back on course, he rewarded me by giving me a purpose.
Three months later, he was strong enough to fly farther from me. It was time for him to go. 注意:
