When it comes to hiking, Greece has something for every kind of walker. Here's our pick of Greece's best hikes for you.
Delphi to Kirra Walk, Central Greece
14 kilometers, 5-6 hours.
This 14-kilometer downhill hike follows a centuries-old pathway from historic Delphi to the ancient port of Kirra, just east of modern Itea on the southern coast of mainland Greece. Going along the edge of the village of Crissa, it goes to the gulf through Greece's largest olive garden. After your hike, lunch or a swim, you can return to Delphi by bus.
Hike to the Tomb of Kleobolus, Rhodes
5 kilometers, 2 hours.
An easy and enjoyable 5-kilometer round-trip hike escapes Lindos to reach the so-called Tomb of Kleobolus. Starting alongside Car Park 1 above the main beach, the route ends at a rocky hill topped by a circular tomb actually built during the 2nd century BC.
Hike to Samariá Gorge, Crete
16 kilometers, 6-7 hours.
Hiking the 16-kilometer Samariá Gorge is considered one of Crete's must-do experiences. There is the undeniable raw beauty of Samariá Gorge, where vertical walls rise up to 500 meters and are just 3.5 meters apart at the narrowest point.
Mt Ohi Summit Hike, Evia
8 kilometers, 3-4 hours.
The summit of Mt Ohi, lesser-visited Evia's third-highest peak, is capped with mysterious ancient dragon houses—7th-century BC architecture, made from rocks weighing several tons. It's possible to stay overnight at the 1,000-meter-high shelter and then hike up Mt Ohi to catch the wonderful sunrise, which makes for a magical experience.

An eight-year-old boy self-published a graphic novel about Christmas but never expected the book to attract a large fan base in the US and overseas.
Dillon Helbig wrote the book, titled The Adventures of Dillon Helbig's Christmas, because he “likes Christmas and decorations”. Dillon's journey to getting it published is a pretty interesting story.
During Christmas break, the second-grader penned the book and then added pictures. The book begins with Dillion himself decorating a Christmas tree. The star on top of the tree explodes, and then he is sucked into an entrance. Over just four days, the boy filled in 81 pages of a journal. Then he went to the local Ada Community Library with his mother.
“He wanted to get his story out there so all the kids can read his adventures,” his mother said. He was unsure how to get his book on the library shelf, so he planned to follow the librarians. “There were a lot of librarians,” Dillon said, but he successfully slid his book onto a children's picture-book shelf.
One of the librarians found it. And he said, “Oh, this is kind of interesting.” And he added it to the catalog. After secretly posting his book, Dillon's graphic novel attracted fans. 56 people were on the waiting list to check it out by the end of January. The number has grown to 88 this week. Demand for Dillon's graphic novel extends beyond the United States. One of the librarians received inquiries for the book from the Netherlands and Bangladesh.
Dillon has wanted to publish a book since he was five. The library gave Dillon an award for “best young novelist”, which he does have a lot to be proud of.
24.What inspired Dillon to write the book
A.His desire to attract fans worldwide.
B.His dream to win a literature award.
C.His plan to add it to the library catalog.
D.His interest in Christmas and decorations.
25.What can be learned about the book from the text
A.It is a very thick book.
B.It was written by hand.
C.It contains only pictures.
D.It took three years to finish.
26.Why did Dillon go to the library with his mum
A.To share his book with other kids.
B.To present his book to a librarian.
C.To borrow a children's picture book.
D.To communicate with overseas readers.
27.Which word best describes Dillon
A.Cute. B.Brave. C.Talented. D.Humorous.

When put to the test, bees have proved over and over again that they've got a lot more to offer than pollinating (授粉), making honey and being loyal to a queen. The industrious insects can count and alter their behavior when things seem difficult, and now some scientists say there's proof that they also like to play. A study recently published in Animal Behavior suggests that bumblebees, when given the chance, like to fool around with toys.
Researchers from Queen Mary University of London conducted an experiment in which they set up a container that allowed bees to travel from their nest to a feeding area. But along the way, the bees could opt to pass through a separate section with a few of small wooden balls. Over 18 days, the scientists watched as the bees went out of their way to roll wooden balls repeatedly, despite no apparent motivation to do so. The finding suggests that like humans, insects also interact with lifeless objects as a form of play. Also similar to people, younger bees seemed to be more playful than adult bees.
“This research provides a strong indication that insect minds are far more sophisticated than we might imagine,” Lars Chittka, a professor of sensory and behavioral ecology at Queen Mary University of London, who led the study, said in a statement. “There are lots of animals who play just for the purposes of enjoyment, but most examples come from young mammals and birds,” said Chittka.
The study's first author, Samadi Galpayage, who is a PhD student at Queen Mary University of London, added that there is yet more evidence that insects may be capable of experiencing feelings.
“They may actually experience some kind of positive emotional states. This sort of finding has implications to our understanding of feelings and welfare of insects and will, hopefully, encourage us to respect and protect life on Earth ever more,” she said in the statement.
28.What can we know about bees from a recent study
A.They can adapt to new situations.
B.They are quite faithful to the queen.
C.They are more intelligent than expected.
D.They are probably fond of having fun.
29.Why do the scientists design a separate section with small wooden balls
A.To find out whether bees will be distracted.
B.To prohibit bees from going through the pass.
C.To better watch bees play with lifeless objects.
D.To figure out how bees interact with each other.
30.What does the underlined word “sophisticated” in paragraph 3 probably mean
A.Energetic. B.Complicated. C.Social. D.Outgoing.
31.What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs
A.Insects are badly treated nowadays.
B.Bees are one of the smartest insects.
C.Insects may have feelings as humans.
D.Insects are a reminder of nature protection.

If you've ever wondered where water on Earth comes from, new research on a meteorite (陨石) which landed in a family's front yard in England last year may have just the answer. Researchers from London's Natural History Museum and the University of Glasgow, in Scotland, studied the meteorite found in the town of Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, discovering it contained water similar to that found on Earth.
Published in the journal Science Advances, the study reveals that outer-space rocks may have brought vital chemical components such as water to our planet billions of years ago, establishing the oceans and all life on Earth.
Imaging and chemical analysis of the Winchcombe meteorite revealed it contains around 11% water and 2% carbon by weight, making it the first of its kind found in the UK. The team, which measured the rate of hydrogen isotopes in the water, found that it closely resembled the composition of water on Earth.
Recovered within 12 hours of its landing with the aid of the UK Fireball Alliance, an organization which aims to recover freshly-fallen meteorites in the UK, it had very little time to be altered by the Earth's atmosphere. “We know this means everything inside it is 100% outer-space including the 11% water it contains,” Daly said. “Most meteorites have ‘Earth-like’ water but these rocks alter and degrade within days or weeks of being on Earth, and so they could just be Earth-like because they have absorbed rain water or something,” he explained.
Daly called the Winchcombe meteorite a “lucky” find. It was only the size of a basketball, so if it was traveling at a different speed or at a different angle, it would have all burnt up, he said, adding that it was a great cooperation of the UK cosmochemistry network who “came together to throw the kitchen sink at studying this rock.”
32.What did the researchers find about the meteorite
A.It had absorbed some rain water.
B.It landed in a family's front yard.
C.It changed the town of Winchcombe.
D.It might reveal the origin of water on Earth.
33.How did the researchers analyse the meteorite
A.By calculating its weight.
B.By studying its composition.
C.By measuring its chemical stability.
D.By comparing its resemblance with others.
34.Why does Daly mention “Earth-like” water of other meteorites
A.To suggest that there are more similar research findings.
B.To demonstrate the universality of meteorites' being polluted.
C.To show the changeable feature of the Winchcombe meteorite.
D.To prove the water of the Winchcombe meteorite is outer-space.
35.Why is the Winchcombe meteorite regarded as a “lucky” find
A.It narrowly missed being burned.
B.It won many British scientists' heart.
C.It came to the Earth at a perfect time.
D.It landed in a very appropriate place.

It's a side effect. 40 . A common one is selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, a kind of medications usually used to treat anxiety or depression.
There exists an underlying issue. Excessive yawning is also associated with heart disease, disorder of the nervous system, liver failure or hypothyroidism.
A.You need to slow down
B.When you need to go to the doctor
C.Watching anyone yawn causes a yawn in you
D.So it makes you yawn in an attempt to cool it down

Two little girls, Addie and Gracie, neatly dressed as they were going for a pleasant walk and pretty lunch-baskets filled with the nicest of things, started out for a walk up the canyon (峡谷). There was a good road for long distance. Then it branched off right and left. The trees grew taller, the bushes thicker and more twisted and they felt as if they were away off in a little world of their own. How nice it was! Birds came close overhead, and they saw several live squirrels. After gathering a great many flowers and eating lunch, and having had enough walking for a while, they began telling certain fairy stories in which the parties all lived out in the woods.
The day wore along until afternoon, when the canyon began to grow dark very fast. “Do you think we'd better start home ”asked Addie.“I guess it's early yet. But if you wish we might walk slowly down a little way,” said Gracie. With a show of some reluctance, Addie gathered her treasures together, and they started at a leisurely pace, which somehow was gradually accelerated without the apparent notice.
These children had gone farther up the canyon than they had realized. The many charms had attracted them along and they didn't feel tired for a long while. Suddenly, a low rumble was heard that increased and seemed to be rapidly coming in their direction.
“It's raining! Are there any caves ” “Only way up on the side.” “Let's take hold of hands and run!” “We'd have to drop our flowers.” “I don't care. Hurry!” Away they went, the wind driving the rain right in their faces. The pretty hats were dripping. The light pink dresses hung straight down, and their shoes were sopping wet. “Do you think our parents will come after us when they know it's storming up here ”

M:The regular delivery is just fine.
(Text 2)
M:Mum! I can't find my phone.
W:You were using it in the kitchen, and you had it in the sitting room when you were watching TV. Have you checked there
M:Oh, there it is, by the dishwasher. I left it there when I went up to my bedroom.
(Text 3)
W:Tom, I've decided to move.
M:Why What happened
W:The landlady is going to raise the rent next month. I can no longer afford it. But I don't know how to find an apartment. Could you do me a favor
(Text 4)
W:So, Henry, tell us something about your life. You live in Paris, don't you
M:Yes, I was born in France, but I studied in the USA.After that, I went on to have my advanced study in London.
(Text 5)
M:Ali, let's go to the beach.
W:I think it's a little too cold to spend a day at the beach. I'd rather go on a bike e and ride to the lake with me.
M:Okay, that sounds good.
(Text 6)
M:It's hard to believe we're going to graduate in two months.
W:I know. Time has passed by so fast.
M:Are you still planning to go to a medical school
W:Yeah. I'm ready to go. What about you
M:I'm going to take a year to work in Chicago. Then try to decide.
W:That sounds like a good idea. What kind of job in Chicago are you going to do
M:I'm not sure. I just like Chicago. What kind of doctor do you want to be
W:I was thinking about working with children's problems. I once volunteered in a Children's Center.
(Text 7)
M:Lisa, long time no see. What have you been busy with
W:Well, my publisher wanted me to write a book for teenagers. I must finish it within three months. So I spend most of my time on it now.
M:Well, have you finished it
W:Not yet. There is still one month left. And I've finished about three fourths of it. So I'm sure I can finish it before due time.
M:Great.
W:So are you busy with anything recently
M:Not exactly. Actually I'm planning for a trip to New Zealand. But I can't find anyone to go with me.
W:It's a pity. I can't go with you now.
(Text 8)
M:There you are. I'm getting worried. I tried to call you, but I couldn't get through.
W:Oh, it's powered off. Sorry, Dad. I ran into Mary and I went to her's and talked with her for a while there. She told me a story.
M:What did she tell you
W:Well, she was driving home tonight, and she suddenly saw someone on his hands and knees in the middle of the road. She stopped the car and wanted to ask if there was anything she could do. But do you know what happened
M:What happened
W:The person suddenly jumped away and disappeared.
M:Wow. That person was really awesome. Did he know Chinese kung fu
W:Well, Mary later realized it wasn't a person. It was a deer. She couldn't help laughing after she realized that.
(Text 9)
W:Are you pretty good at keeping in touch with your friends, Jeff, like from middle school and high school
M:I'd say so. I'm still pretty close with a lot of friends from high school and even before that.
W:How do you keep track of them Do you talk to them on WeChat, or on the phone, or in person
M:Um, pretty much all three of those, although the popularity of WeChat has made things easier. It's convenient to communicate with old friends and people are willing to do it. What about you
W:My best friend Emily, we'll have been friends for ten years this summer, and, you know, we still talk on the phone.
M:How did you guys meet
W:We met in high school, first day of high school. We had a lot of the same taste in music but we don't have anything in common anymore and I don't think I'll ever lose touch with her because we just have that past that we shared.
M:Yeah, I think that's pretty natural to still keep in touch with your friends but not share the same interests that you used to.
(Text 10)
W:Today marks the end of an era. I always remember when I first came to this university. My family was poor when I applied, and the only possible way for me to attend university was through a scholarship. Unfortunately, the person who funded my scholarship is not here today to see my graduation. His name is Alvin James, and I only sadly found out that he passed away last year. He had left a letter to be delivered to me when I graduate, and I want to read part of it to all of you. “Education is priceless, and should not depend upon your background, race or nationality.”
I have been inspired by Alvin's words and life. He was a generous man who gave his fortune away to charities and people who he believed could make a difference. So the final year of my studies, I have been working with the university to create a new scholarship in his name. Every year, 10 students from poor backgrounds will now be able to attend university. It will be funded by other former students. I hope that everyone graduating here will sign up to help fund education for the poor. Thank you.

  【答案】
One possible version:
Addie began to cry. “If it doesn't stop raining, are we just going to have to spend the night here I want to go home. I miss my mom and dad!” Tears like beads from the broken line, kept flowing down Addie's cheeks. “Don't be afraid! Maybe the rain will stop soon.” Gracie gave her a hug to comfort her. After taking off their wet hats and shoes, the two girls sat quietly in the cave side by side, waiting for the rain to stop anxiously. After a while, it cleared up.
They were about to leave the cave when a figure came into sight, calling their names. “Daddy!” Hearing the voice they were familiar with, they got up immediately and rushed to the mouth of the cave, without putting on their shoes. Sure enough, their dad came! The two girls hugged their dad joyfully and said in a frightened voice, “We will never be separated from you again.” “Honey, Dad is here! I am also worried about you! Never can you go so far without parents!” They nodded non-stop and went home happily along with their father.
