The clock was one of the few things that survived both of my parents losing their jobs. The clock survived several years packed away in the attic (阁楼) of my grandparents’ house.
Gradually, life got better. Slowly.
Mom had taken the clock out of the box once after she and Dad had bought their first home. She had dusted it off, placed it on top of a bookcase in the new living room, and wound it. The clock would not tick (滴答响). It would not chime (报时). “Maybe,” she said with tears in her eyes, “it’s been too long.” She placed it back in the box, and stored it in her attic.
There, in the attic, the clock sat. Not ticking. Not chiming. For years.
In those years I had finished high school, then college. I had gotten married. I was blessed with the two most beautiful children, almost 2 and 4. I had bought a house with a fireplace and a mantle (壁炉架).
Mom came over to our new house with a box. “I had the clock fixed. Oh, you’ll love it!” she said to my wife. “It had the most beautiful chime.” Mom took the clock out of the box and placed it on our mantle. She wound the clock.
The chime of my childhood was back. And the chime really was beautiful.
There, on the mantle, the clock sat. Ticking. Chiming. For months.
Then, one day, the clock stopped ticking and chiming.
With tears in her eyes, Mom wanted to store the clock in the box. “No,” I said, “We’ll leave it sit right there. That clock is too beautiful to live in a box.” I offered up a lame joke: “And, anyway, at least it will be right twice a day.”
There, on the mantle, the clock sat. Not ticking. Not chiming. For more than a year.
Now it was late. Very late. It was Christmas time. I continued to be busy helping Santa prepare Christmas gifts.
注意:
1.续写词数应为 150 左右;
Then, something strange happened.
On Christmas morning my wife noticed it first.

Sometimes, the most precious things in life are not the ones with great value, but those that carry the weight of our memories and hopes.
Miracles can happen when we least expect them, bringing warmth and light to our lives, just like the clock that came back to life.
The clock, through its journey of stopping and starting, symbolizes the resilience of our family and the unwavering hope for a better future.
In the magic of Christmas, even an old clock can become a source of wonder, reminding us of the beauty of family and the power of hope.
Our connection to objects like the clock is not just about their physical presence, but the emotions and stories they hold, which can bring unexpected joy and meaning to our lives.
Then, something strange happened. As I was wrapping the last Christmas present, a soft glow emerged from the direction of the mantle. I looked up to see the clock shining with a faint light. It was as if the clock was trying to tell a story. I stood up, approaching it slowly, my heart pounding with curiosity. The light seemed to dance, and suddenly, I heard a soft ticking sound.
On Christmas morning my wife noticed it first. “Honey, look!” she exclaimed. Our children rushed over, their eyes wide with excitement. The clock was ticking steadily, and as the hour struck, it chimed loudly and clearly. We all stood there, in awe of this Christmas miracle. It felt like a sign that our family's future would be filled with more beautiful moments, just like the chime of this special clock.
示范二
Then, something strange happened. In the dead of the night, a gentle breeze seemed to blow through the living room, although all the windows were closed. The clock on the mantle began to shake slightly. I woke up from my sleep, drawn to the living room by the strange noise. To my surprise, the hands of the clock started to move slowly, as if it was being reset by an invisible hand.
On Christmas morning my wife noticed it first. She called me and the kids, and we gathered around the clock. It was not only ticking but also showing the correct time. The chime filled the room, bringing a sense of warmth and happiness. This Christmas, the clock became a symbol of hope and the magic that can happen in our lives when we least expect it.
Then, something strange happened. The clock began to chime—on the hour. I stopped. Finally realizing I was hearing my own small Christmas miracle early, I stopped preparing the gifts. I sat on my couch and I listened. I listened to the seconds and minutes tick by. I listened to my Christmas miracle ticking away. Afraid that the magic of Christmas morning would die, I reluctantly went to bed striving to hear the ticking. The next morning, there, on
the mantle, the clock sat. Ticking. Chiming.
On Christmas morning, my wife noticed it first. “What How Did you have it fixed What did you do ” I smiled with tears in my eyes and told her I tried to fix it not long ago but failed. It was really a miracle that it worked again at Christmas! My children noticed the ticking and chiming and told me all about how Santa must have come and fixed the clock as he came down the chimney. Later that day, my parents came over for Christmas dinner and marveled at the miracle. The Christmas miracle was trying to tell me to cherish every moment and to
tell me that it is never too late for hope
