阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

Street art is always something I look out for when I travel. At the very beginning, street art was a means to share social comments or political ideas, but now it’s increasingly used in many places around the world to beautify the environment, sometimes becoming popular tourist attractions. Here’s my collection of street art around the world.
Amsterdam, the Netherlands
My hometown has plenty of fantastic street art. You can find some cool pieces in the Jordaan neighborhood and in the North and West parts of the city. One place you absolutely have to visit in Amsterdam is the STRAAT Museum in Amsterdam North. This museum houses huge murals created by artists from around the world in an old industrial warehouse, and is a rich addition to the Amsterdam street art scene.
Bristol, United Kingdom
The birthplace of Banksy, one of the world’s most famous street artists, Bristol is another of the world’s great street art cities. You can find street art across the city on buildings, streets and bridges. The annual Upfest, in the Bedminster suburb, during which artists from around the world are invited to create street art on houses and buildings, is a popular attraction.
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Rio de Janeiro also has a fantastic street art scene. For the 2016 Olympic Games, the city invited famous Brazilian street artist, Kobra, to create the world’s biggest mural along the Olympic Boulevard. The result is simply amazing! Click here to see street art in Rio de Janeiro, or my photos of Rio de Janeiro.
1. Why did people create street art at first
A. To practise painting skills. B. To show social or political opinions.
C. To beautify the environment. D. To draw tourists at home and abroad.

I finally climbed into bed at 1: 20 in the morning. My friends had helped me celebrate my 31st birthday in the basement apartment, where I lived.
Earlier in the day I had prepared for the unlikely event of a flood. We are about a third of a mile from the banks of the Ahr River. It had been raining buckets that week and the government had sent out a flood warning, though not for where I was. Still, I’d placed sandbags on the floor outside my garden door and put electronics on tables. “Silly bro!” My friends laughed at me for doing that, but I thought, why take a chance
As I drifted off to sleep, I was awakened by the sound of rushing water, as if I were lying beside a waterfall. When I got off the bed, I was shocked that cold water was rising fast. In darkness, I grabbed my cellphone and turned on the flashlight. When I stepped out of the bedroom, I saw water shooting through the gaps of the door.
I began to panic. I knew I had to get out—fast! In bare feet, I started to make my way to the only escape: the door that led upstairs to the main floor. Finally I made it to the door and tried several times to-pull it open even just a little bit, but the rushing water shut it again. I looked around for anything I could use to keep it open. There in the corner was a coat rack (架子). I took it and, once again, opened the door, throwing the coat rack between the door and the frame (门框) to keep the door from shutting. Finally, I managed to make a gap just wide enough to squeeze (挤) through and make it into the hallway.
I leaped on to the stairs and ran outside. I stood there in the darkness, wet through. What was once a lovely street was now a waterscape, with floating ruins instead of people and cars. The river had drowned (淹没) the neighborhood!

A. Better safe than sorry.
B. It never rains but it pours.

6. Which of the following might be the most difficult for the author during the escape
A. Making his way to the door.
B. Finding a coat rack.
C. Keeping the door from shutting.
D. Squeezing through the gap.
7. How did the author feel when standing on the street
A. Sad and shocked.
B. Annoyed and anxious.
C. Surprised and disappointed.
D. Puzzled and awkward.

Have you been exercising and eating healthy, but when you step on the scale, it says you’ve gained a few pounds “That’s normal, and it doesn’t mean that your workouts are not effective”, says Jeffrey A. Dolgan, an exercise physiologist in Miami Beach, Florida.
“A person’s scale mass (质量) is a combination of muscle, fat, bone, blood, and even the air that we carry in our lungs,” he says. “Immediately after a workout routine, the percentage of mass in each body part can shift as much as 15 percent. So if you’re gaining weight while working out and eating healthy, it’s probably not the type of weight gain that you think it is.
The scale can’t tell you how much of your body weight is muscle or fat, which means if your goal is to improve your fitness level, the scale is not the best tool for measuring improvements. When you start to change your body composition with your workouts — by building more muscle mass and decreasing your body fat — your scale weight may increase, while your body fat percentage may decrease. These changes happen over weeks and months (not hours or days) so the scale is useless when tracking them.
You may argue that you weigh a few pounds less after a high intensity (强度) training class. Don’t get too excited—it’s just water loss due to sweat. Water makes up approximately 65 to 90 percent of a person’s weight, and variation in water content of the human body can move the scale by ten pounds or more from day to day.
So ignore the scale and pay more attention to objective measurement tools like body composition. Keep in mind that if you’re exercising but gaining weight, you may actually look slimmer.
8. What can we know from Dolgan’s words from paragraph 2
A. Your weight changes little during a day.
B. Your scale mass is affected by many factors.
C. Your workout is not effective if you gain weight.
D. Your weight is determined only by muscle and fat.
9. What will most probably happen after you exercise and eat healthy for 3 months
A. You will weigh more.
B. Your muscle mass will decrease.
C. Your body fat will increase.
D. Your body composition will change.
10. How much water may a man weighing 150 pounds have in his body
A. 30 pounds. B. 60 pounds.
C. 100 pounds. D. 140 pounds.
11. Which of the following could be the best title for the text
A. Why Do We Gain Weight
B. How to Work Out Effectively
C. What Is the Composition of Our Body
D. Why Does My Workout Cause Weight Gain
D
An adult African elephant consumes about 223 liters of water and 3,080 pounds of roots, grass and fruit daily. That’s like having 634 cans of soda and 1,200 hamburgers every day. This keeps them moving thousands of miles across Africa each year. Elephants usually migrate between March and May. Females live in groups with their children, and quickly run out of the food supply. They hit the road in search of food. Male elephants live alone, so they don’t use resources as quickly as the females. Instead, they migrate during their mating cycle. When the females pack their trunks, so do the males.
During migration, elephants face short water supplies and extremely high temperatures. But people are their number-one problem. Poachers (偷猎者) kill 35,000 elephants each year for ivory. Many African farmers build fences (栅栏) to protect crops and cattle, which might block regular migration paths. Traffic roads affect elephant migration, too. During one study of 28 elephants in Central Africa, only one female crossed an unprotected road.
Scientists, wildlife organizations and governments cooperate to find solutions for Africa’s elephants. “To unlock the secret of where elephants move and how they move, we place collars (项圈) with a satellite unit inside,” Dr. Michael Chase says. GPS collars help map which routes elephants use most so that countries can establish protected elephant passages.
Locals come in as well. James Isiche, East Africa Director of the International Fund for Animal Welfare says, “We have got the community on our side by a project; they’ve agreed to partner with us to conserve elephants.” The local community run wildlife parks to attract tourists. “This project helps us take care of both the wildlife and our cows,” says Sikira, a tribal elder in Maasai, Kenya. Protecting elephant migration routes allows these gentle giants to survive.
12. What can we learn about the elephants from paragraph 1
A. They show an interest in hamburgers.
B. They move south to survive the cold.
C. They migrate for different reasons.
D. Females live shorter for food shortage.
13. What is paragraph 2 of the text mainly about
A. Results of poaching. B. Reasons for killing elephants.
C. Difficulties in migrating. D. Efforts to protect migration paths.
14. Why are collars applied by scientists
A. To discover the secret of migration.
B. To track elephants with technology.
C. To identify the population of elephants.
D. To explore a new route for migration.
15. What is the best title for the text
A. Say No to Ivory B. A Journey in Africa
C. Ready for the Move D. Technology in Migration

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,割据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“Surprise!” was the first thing I heard when I opened the door. My family and friends were all smiling at me. There were colorful balloons all over the house, a big poster saying "HAPPY BIRTHDAY'', and of course a cake with 12 candles. It was a wonderful feeling. I knew that I had finally turned twelve and I might possibly get the thing I wanted most.
I saw my mom and dad coming towards me with a small box which seemed to be a birthday present. When I opened the box, I couldn't believe my eyes. I had really gotten a mobile phone! Throwing myself into their arms, I let out a cry of joy, “Thank you! I love you guys!”
“You're welcome. We knew this was going to make you happy but we didn't only get you this because you turned twelve, but also because you are doing well in school. We expect you to keep getting good grades."
“Of course I will" I said confidently.
As soon as I got to school the next morning, I was showing off my phone and asking everyone for their number. It was cool how I got so many contacts on the first day.
It felt like I didn't even exist in that class anymore. I wouldn't pay much attention to the teachers because I was too busy on my phone. However, I didn't get caught using it.
I am pretty sure that the teacher did notice that I stopped paying attention to her because a week later we took a test and I failed. What was worse, my mom had to sign the test.
It was hard to show my mom the test. She was used to seeing A's and B's on my tests. Finally, I showed it to her, and she couldn't believe it. She was angry but most of all, she was disappointed.
注意:
1.续写短文的词数应为150左右;

Paragraph 1:
Realizing the reason for my failure, my parents started to dislike the fact that I had a phone.

【答案】Dear David,
I’m delighted to learn that you’ve started learning Chinese! Knowing that you would like to have a better command of Chinese, I’m writing to share with you some practical suggestions.
With proper guidance and enough practice, you’re bound to learn Chinese well. To begin with, it is advisable that you regularly watch some Chinese learning programmes, which will expose you to an authentic learning atmosphere and will help you develop a better understanding of Chinese culture. Besides, you’d better make some Chinese friends and communicate with them as much as possible. With frequent communication in real life, you’ll eventually improve your oral Chinese and feel more confident.
Hopefully my tips above can be of some help. Wish you success.
Yours,
LiHua

【答案】
Realizing the reason for my failure, my parents started to dislike the fact that I had a phone. They said they had noticed that I never paid attention to them. It was like I had my own little world. So they thought we didn't communicate as much with my phone. They regretted having given me a phone, which made me ignore the family and study.
Then I started to wonder if I was wrong. A week later I tried going a whole day without a phone and it didn’t go that badly. I had so much fun because I was actually spending time with my family and paying attention to them. From that day, I had a different opinion towards phones. Phones really take you away from the rest of the world. I' m not saying that phones are bad and not to use them, but you do have to spare some time to spend with your family and not get stuck with your phone all day.
