If a wheelchair malfunctions, it’s like a body catching a cold. For Zhu Siwei, a “wheelchair doctor”, diagnosing (诊断) these issues has become second nature.
At 33, Zhu brought his expertise to the world stage in the summer of 2024 at the Paris Paralympics (残奥会), where he worked at both the Paralympic Village and competition venues. As part of a technical team, Zhu offered service to athletes and officials from around the globe, keeping their equipment in top shape.
Zhu describes how each technician on the team brings their own expertise — some specialize in sewing, others in welding (焊接). “Many of the technicians from other countries have years of experience and a deep understanding of wheelchair repair,” Zhu says. “It’s a rare and valuable opportunity to work alongside them.”
In the Paralympic Village, Zhu sometimes found himself going beyond his official duties. When a motorized suitcase that an athlete was using for mobility wouldn’t charge, even though it wasn’t his responsibility, Zhu stepped in to help solve the problem. He could sense the athletes’ appreciation after fixing their wheelchairs, their gratitude unmistakable in their eyes.
With a decade of experience in wheelchair repair, Zhu has observed the continual development of the equipment used by disabled individuals. As the wheelchairs change, Zhu recognizes the importance of improving his repair skills alongside them.
Wang Tiegang, Zhu’s colleague during the Paris Paralympics, has also witnessed firsthand the advancements in equipment for people with disabilities. “We’re gradually moving toward high-tech solutions,” Wang says. “This year, we’ve integrated 3D printing technology on-site, and new wheelchairs are becoming lighter. The demands on welding techniques are also growing, so we’re committed to ongoing learning.”
This year, Zhu has taken on a new initiative for individuals with disabilities. “When a wheelchair breaks down, it’s often much more challenging for someone with a disability to go out and find a repair shop compared to able-bodied individuals. They also tend to have their own circles,” Zhu explains. “We teach them simple repair techniques, enabling them to assist one another with basic fixes.”
24.What does Zhu Siwei do
A.He is a coach. B.He is a doctor. C.He is an athlete. D.He is a technician.
25.What is suggested about Zhu Siwei in paragraph 4
A.He was athletic and emotional. B.He was overburdened by work.
C.He was misunderstood by others. D.He was warm-hearted and helpful.
26.What do Wang Tiegang and Zhu Siwei both attach importance to
A.Continuous learning. B.Innovative equipment.
C.The demands of the athletes. D.The well-being of the disabled.
27.What is the purpose of Zhu Siwei’s new initiative
A.To attract more able-bodied individuals to help the disabled.
B.To encourage social connections between the disabled.
C.To reduce the living costs for those with disabilities.
D.To promote self-reliance of those with disabilities.

Tilapia (罗非鱼) skin is rich in collagen (胶原蛋白), a protein that helps build and repair tissues. Because of this, tilapia skin has become popular in medicine. Researchers have used it for various treatments, including helping burn victims and fixing problems related to the stomach and heart.
Inspired by colleagues in other medical fields, Mirza Melo, an eye doctor for animals in Brazil, decided to try using tilapia skin to treat eye problems in dogs. She focused on eye problems like corneal ulcers and perforations, which are common in dogs with short noses. “These dogs have eyes sticking out from their faces,” she says. “So they get injured often.”
Normally, doctors treat these eye injuries by placing a piece of horse placenta (胎盘) over the damaged area to help it recover. But in 2019, Melo tried using tilapia skin instead. She successfully treated a Shih Tzu (a species of dog) with a severe eye injury.
Brazil’s Burn Support Institute and the Federal University of Ceará, which started the Tilapia Skin Project to treat burns, supported her work. With their help, Melo developed a special membrane (膜) called the acellular dermal matrix (ADM), made from pure collagen taken from tilapia skin.
Collagen is known to help cells grow and repair tissues. Tilapia skin has a high and consistent quality of collagen throughout the fish’s life, while the quality of horse placental collagen can vary depending on the horse’s age and weight.
So far, Melo has treated over 400 dogs using tilapia skin. The dogs showed no pain or infection after surgery and healed quickly with minimal scarring. Melo is now planning to use this technique on cats and is even discussing how to adapt it for treating human eyes, which are very sensitive and difficult to treat.
28.Why is Tilapia popular in medicine
A.For its eyes. B.For its skin. C.For its blood. D.For its oil.
29.What makes the dogs with short noses frequently get injured
A.Their eyes’ position. B.Their playful nature.
C.Their active movement. D.Their hair’s length.
30.What can we infer about horse placental collagen
A.It is only related to horses’ weight.
B.It is easier to obtain than tilapia collagen.
C.It is not affected by horses’ type and weight.
D.It is not always available at any stage of horses’ growth.
31.What does the author intend to convey in the last paragraph
A.Melo’s concern for tilapia
B.Melo’s confidence in teaching.
C.The characteristic of tilapia’s collagen.
D.The application of tilapia’s collagen.

When caught in the rain, we have all run for cover—often to a nearby tree. On the way, we step over short-lived puddles and hastily formed streams, marveling at how quickly the soil changes from supportive and predictable to untrustworthy: slippery, soft, and spongy. At the first chance we tend to flee, skipping further observation.
Given that direct observations are often unfeasible, remote observation systems are crucial in capturing phenomena that are frequent and unpredictable. However, the Bimbache community of El Hierro observed water running down tree bark during fog events and captured it for drinking, washing and agriculture. If more contemporary hydrologists (水文学家) had watched the raking of fog by trees, forest managers may not have logged the Bull Run Watershed, which reduced local rainfall by 30%.
Water science faces criticism because of “techno-optimism that tries to solve all problems despite not asking fundamental questions”. In fact, this issue extends beyond water science. An interdisciplinary research team led by John Van Stan from Cleveland State University argues that scientists should go beyond the laboratory to directly observe weather phenomena. The researchers insist that hands-on observation of storm events is crucial in comprehending the complexities of wet weather.
“Natural scientists seem increasingly content to stay dry and rely on remote sensors and samplers, models, and virtual experiments to understand natural systems. Consequently, we can miss important stormy phenomena, imaginative inspiration, and opportunities to build intuition—all of which are critical to scientific progress,” said Van Stan’s team.
This type of “umbrella science”, they warn, can miss important localized events. For instance, in describing rainwater’s flow from the forest treetops to the soils, the authors note that “if several branches efficiently capture and carry storm water to the stem, rainwater inputs to near-stem soils can be more than 100 times greater”. Likewise, water vapor (水蒸气) clouds trapped beneath forest treetop covers may escape remote detection, yet be sensitive to scientists on the ground. On a broader level, these oversights can affect ground Earth system models, which often underestimate forest treetop water storage.
Direct observation, however, has gone beyond making up for the shortcomings of “umbrella science”. Van Stan and colleagues see core value in first-hand storm experiences—not only for natural scientists, but also students studying the impacts of climate change on ecosystems.
32.How do people tend to react to rain
A.In a defensive manner. B.In a scientific manner.
C.With a wait-and-see attitude. D.With an observation-oriented attitude.
33.Which of the following words can replace the underlined word in paragraph 2
A.Impolite. B.Impossible. C.Inconvenient. D.Illogical.
34.What does Van Stan’s research team argue in terms of hands-on observation
A.It is effortless and precise. B.It is virtual and accepted.
C.It is complex yet time-saving. D.It is crucial yet overlooked.
35.What will the author probably discuss in the paragraph that follows
A.The grounds for starting the research.
B.The scientific value of conducting the research.
C.The strengths of the research for learners majoring in ecology.
D.The expert evaluations of the research across disciplines.

Adam Golebiewski, a 17-year-old teenage footballer on his school’s team, was extremely passionate about sports. Every match was a stage where he danced with the ball. However, fate (命运) had a cruel twist in store for this young athlete.
One evening, as the sun painted the sky with golden light, Adam was making his way home after a thrilling victory, his mind still recalling the cheers of the crowd. It was on this seemingly ordinary road that a tragic accident occurred, forever changing his life. A collision (碰撞), swift and unexpected, resulted in the loss of his legs below the knees. The world he had known seemed to collapse around him.
Days turned into weeks, and Adam found himself trapped in a cocoon (茧) of despair. The once familiar scent (气味) of freshly cut grass and the thrill of the game were replaced by the smell of hospital rooms and the bitter taste of loss. It was during these darkest moments that the light of hope glowed, thanks to the support of his teachers, coach, and classmates. They stood by him, their words of encouragement bringing comfort to him, reminding him that his spirit and his passion remained uninjured.
With time, Adam slowly recovered from his despair. He realized that while his body had been changed, his deep love for sports remained the same as ever. Fueled by this realization, he began a new journey of rehabilitation training (康复训练), a path lined with challenges. Each day, he pushed himself to the limits, bearing the pain with his strong will. Day by day, he persisted in training, and his health gradually recovered and his body became as strong as before. He was convinced that he could still become a basketball player.

M: Yes, you can get it in gray, red, and yellow. A nice blue might suit you actually, and it matches your eyes.
W: I need something bright as we often go climbing.
M: In that case, I’d go with the yellow. How is that on (16)
W: It’s a little tight. (16)
M: Well, that’s the small one, (16) so we’d probably go for a medium.
W: Well, I’m usually a large but a medium should be OK.
M: So this one is currently $200, but we’re actually giving customers a 10% discount this weekend. (17)
W: Amazing! I’m glad I came in today then. (17)
Text 10
We are receiving news that next year’s TT races on the Isle of Man have been canceled due to the on-going COVID-19 emergency. The festival, worth about 30 million to the island economy, brings tens of thousands of visitors each year. It has been held every year since 1907 and expected to take place from May 29th to June 12th. (18) Enterprise Minister Laurence Skelly said the “logical decision” to cancel the event for a second year was needed to protect residents and visitors. The 2020 TT Festival was canceled in March, as the first wave of COVID-19 spread through much of Europe. The cancelation of next year’s motor cycle festival is another huge hit for the island’s tourism industry. (19) The border has been closed for months to non-residents as the island government battles to prevent the high rates of COVID-19 seen throughout much of the UK. Mr. Skelly said the government could not commit to “welcoming tens of thousands of people to the island in June”. Resident Anne Rostron, (20) whose husband Brian is a former TT rider, said she could see why the decision had been taken, because it would be “letting everybody in” to the island. Her friend Judith Curtis said there were arguments for and against canceling the event, (20) adding, “It’s going to hit the island again financially, but you’ve got to think about the safety of the people”. James McLaren said although it would be “a disappointment”, it was “better to be safe than sorry”.

由文章第二段中“At 33, Zhu brought his expertise to the world stage in the summer of 2024 at the Paris Paralympics (残奥会), where he worked at both the Paralympic Village and competition venues. As part of a technical team, Zhu offered service to athletes and officials from around the globe, keeping their equipment in top shape. (2024年夏天,33岁的朱思维在巴黎残奥会上登上了世界舞台,他在残奥村和比赛场馆都提供了服务。作为技术团队的一员,朱思维为来自世界各地的运动员和官员提供服务,确保他们的设备处于最佳状态)”可推知,朱思维是一名技术人员。故选D。
25.推理判断题。由文章第四段中“In the Paralympic Village, Zhu sometimes found himself going beyond his official duties. When a motorized suitcase that an athlete was using for mobility wouldn’t charge, even though it wasn’t his responsibility, Zhu stepped in to help solve the problem. (在残奥村,朱思维有时会超出自己的职责范围去帮忙。当一名运动员用于移动的电动行李箱无法充电时,尽管这不属于他的职责,但朱思伟还是主动介入,帮助解决了问题)”可推知,朱思伟是热心肠的且乐于助人。故选D。
26.细节理解题。由文章第六段中“This year, we’ve integrated 3D printing technology on-site, and new wheelchairs are becoming lighter. The demands on welding techniques are also growing, so we’re committed to ongoing learning. (今年,我们在现场应用了3D打印技术,新的轮椅变得更轻。对焊接技术的要求也在不断提高,因此我们致力于持续学习)”可知,二人都重视持续学习。故选A。
由文章最后一段中“We teach them simple repair techniques, enabling them to assist one another with basic fixes. (我们教他们简单的维修技巧,使他们能够互相帮助进行基本的修理)”可推知,朱思维的新举措的目的是促进残疾人的自立。故选D。

【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了巴西的一位动物眼科医生Mirza Melo受到其他医学领域同事的启发,尝试使用罗非鱼皮来治疗狗的眼部问题,并详细介绍了罗非鱼皮中的胶原蛋白在治疗中的应用及其优势。
28.细节理解题。根据文章第一段“Tilapia (罗非鱼) skin is rich in collagen (胶原蛋白), a protein that helps build and repair tissues. Because of this, tilapia skin has become popular in medicine.(罗非鱼皮富含胶原蛋白,这是一种有助于生成和修复组织的蛋白质。正因如此,罗非鱼皮在医学领域日益受到青睐)”可知,罗非鱼皮富含胶原蛋白,这种蛋白质有助于生成和修复组织,所以罗非鱼皮在医学领域受到欢迎。故选B。
29.细节理解题。根据文章第二段“She focused on eye problems like corneal ulcers and perforations, which are common in dogs with short noses. “These dogs have eyes sticking out from their faces,” she says. “So they get injured often.”(她主要关注角膜溃疡和穿孔等眼部问题,这些问题在短鼻犬中较为常见。“这些狗的眼睛凸出于面部,”她说,“所以它们经常受伤。”)”可知,短鼻犬的眼睛凸出于面部,这种眼睛的位置导致它们经常受伤。故选A。
根据文章倒数第二段“Tilapia skin has a high and consistent quality of collagen throughout the fish’s life, while the quality of horse placental collagen can vary depending on the horse’s age and weight.(罗非鱼在其一生中,鱼皮中的胶原蛋白质量始终保持在较高水平且稳定,而马胎盘胶原蛋白的质量则会因马的年龄和体重而异)”可知,因为马胎盘胶原蛋白的质量受马的年龄和体重等因素影响,这意味着在马生长的不同阶段,马胎盘胶原蛋白的质量不稳定,可能并非在任何阶段都能稳定获取到符合要求的马胎盘胶原蛋白。故选D。
根据文章最后一段“So far, Melo has treated over 400 dogs using tilapia skin. The dogs showed no pain or infection after surgery and healed quickly with minimal scarring. Melo is now planning to use this technique on cats and is even discussing how to adapt it for treating human eyes, which are very sensitive and difficult to treat.(到目前为止,Melo已经用罗非鱼皮治疗了 400 多只狗。

根据第一段“When caught in the rain, we have all run for cover—often to a nearby tree.(下雨的时候,我们都会跑去躲雨——通常是跑到附近的一棵树上)”以及“At the first chance we tend to flee, skipping further observation.(一有机会我们就会逃跑,不去进一步观察)”可知,大多数人遇到雨时会迅速找地方躲避(例如躲在树下),一旦有机会,他们往往会立刻逃离,跳过进一步的观察,因此,人们对雨的反应是防御性的。故选A项。
根据第三段“The researchers insist that hands-on observation of storm events is crucial in comprehending the complexities of wet weather.(研究人员坚持认为,对风暴事件的亲身观察对于理解潮湿天气的复杂性至关重要)”可知,该研究团队强调了亲身观测的重要性;根据第四段““Natural scientists seem increasingly content to stay dry and rely on remote sensors and samplers, models, and virtual experiments to understand natural systems. Consequently, we can miss important stormy phenomena, imaginative inspiration, and opportunities to build intuition—all of which are critical to scientific progress,” said Van Stan’s team.(“自然科学家似乎越来越满足于保持干燥,依靠远程传感器和采样器、模型和虚拟实验来了解自然系统。因此,我们可能会错过重要的风暴现象、富有想象力的灵感和建立直觉的机会——所有这些对科学进步至关重要,”范斯坦的团队说)”可知, 过于依赖远程观测和实验模型会导致我们错过重要的暴风雨现象。综上可推可知,亲身观测是至关重要的,但往往被忽视。故选D项。
35.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Direct observation, however, has gone beyond making up for the shortcomings of “umbrella science”. Van Stan and colleagues see core value in first-hand storm experiences—not only for natural scientists, but also students studying the impacts of climate change on ecosystems.(然而,直接观察已经超越了弥补“伞科学”的缺陷。范斯坦和他的同事们看到了第一手风暴经验的核心价值——不仅对自然科学家,而且对研究气候变化对生态系统影响的学生)”可知,对于研究气候变化对生态系统影响的学生和自然科学家来说,亲身体验暴风雨都是极具价值的。由此可推知,接下来文章可能会讨论该研究给生态学专业的学习者带来的优势。故选C项。

His goal was to join the school basketball team, but its high standards seemed unattainable for him. Frustrated by his initial inability to meet the requirements, he felt his daily training seemed like wasting time. Just when he was on the edge of giving up, a basketball coach of his school reached out to him. With kind words and a wealth of experience, the coach designed personalized training sessions for Adam. For a whole year, Adam pushed himself to the limit, growing stronger both physically and mentally. His determination and hard work slowly restored his confidence.
Finally, Adam became a member of the basketball team with the help of his school basketball coach. He tightly hugged his basketball coach, expressing his gratitude to him. He acknowledged that without the coach’s patience and guidance, he might have given up sports altogether. In the basketball team, Adam found not just comfort and friendship among his teammates, but also a sense of belonging. They cheered each other during practice and always had each other’s backs on the court. On the field, with each pass and shot, Adam proved that the love for the game was beyond physical limitations. His story spread, inspiring not only disabled athletes but also anyone who faces difficulties in life.
