Chores are part of the family life. Some parents refuse to let kids do chores so that their kids can have more time to play. Others teach kids to do chores to make kids become independent. Then here comes the question: ▲ My answer is yes and the following are my reasons.
Chores teach kids life skills. Many of the life skills are things that teachers do not teach. That makes learning to do chores become even more important.
Section B (2a-3b)
Chores make kids learn responsibility and independence. Living with their parents, they should know that every family member should do their part in keeping the house clean. As long as they can do things by themselves, they won’t always ask their parents for help.
Chores help kids understand their parents better. When parents do housework, most kids think it’s easy. Unless kids try some chores themselves, they won’t know how hard their parents are. However, giving them chores may help this insight come quickly.
Section B (2a-3b)
Chores help improve kids’ planning skills. When kids have schoolwork, housework and free time activities in a day, they need to decide what to do first. In this way, they will improve their planning skills.
It’s true that studies are important for kids, but it doesn’t mean that kids need to spend all the time on their studies. At different ages, there are some chores that are right for kids. If they can do them, it will be good for their development.

Life skills are important and should be taught as part of labour education (劳动教育). In 2020, the Ministry of Education (MOE 教育部)gave a revised (修订的) course for high schools across the country. Labour education, also called education on the hardworking spirit, covers housework, school labour and community voluntary services.
“Labour education must be carried out with the purpose (目的) to develop the view of the world, life and values and develop an interest in doing housework,” said the Vice -Minister of Education.
Section A (3a-3c)
According to China Youth Daily, the labour course will take six credits (学分) — the same as English and physics. Voluntary service, as part of labour education, would take two credits. The MOE also asks schools to make sure 40 hours of voluntary service during the full three school years.
According to Xinhua, the young in our country do too little housework and that they think labour jobs aren’t important. Because of a lot of school stress, schools think the educational course is more important, and parents sometimes think that housework wastes their kids’ time.
Section A (3a-3c)
According to a survey, primary and middle school students in China only spend 12 minutes a day on housework, compared (比较) with 72 minutes in the USA, 42 minutes in South Korea and 30 minutes in France.
However, doing housework does not take young people’s attention away. Instead, it is necessary for developing a strong working spirit. “The earlier you start, the better...” the writer of How to Raise an Adult said.

Many kids do housework such as doing the dishes, making the bed, and folding the clothes. In exchange, they get some money or other computer time.
Paying kids for housework is one of the most popular topics, especially at a time when everyone is more careful about money. Some parents think since adults are paid to do their jobs, we should pay kids for everyday housework.
But some people don’t think kids should get rewards (报酬) for doing housework. Susie Walton, an expert, believes that by rewarding kids, parents are sending a message that work isn’t worth doing unless you get something in return.

“Running any kind of housework is a team effort,” Walton said.“A home is a living space for everyone in the family. It’s important for kids to see that we all have responsibilities in the house, and families decide how they want their home to look, and how they are going to keep it looking like what they want.”
Other people believe that getting a reward encourages kids to do housework, and it also teaches them real world lessons about how we need to work to get money. There are also apps(程序) that give kids points and digital gifts that can be redeemed (兑现) either online or in the real world.“Our goal is to give kids lawful power so they can get rewards,” says Chris Bergman. “And kids need rewards to help encourage them.”
