The 19th Asian Games were held from Sep. 23rd to Oct. 8th in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. The 31st FISU Summer World University Games were held from July 28th to Aug.8th in Chengdu, Sichuan. Players from all over the world played against each other. However, as we say in China: “Friendship first, competition second”. How can players have both Students share their ideas on this topic.
Yao Zilin, 15 I’m good at the high jump. I win the competition every time. However, once my friend Ella won. I was so sad that I didn’t want to talk to her. A few months later, I read a story about my favorite skater, Evgenia Medvedeva. She said, “I believe in myself. So, champion isn’t important anymore.” It’s true! She said: “We’re game players more than friends now, so just do your best! That’s how you show your respect for me.” In the end, I won, but I remember her words. “Understanding, friendship, solidarity (团结) and fair competition” make up the key spirit of the winter Olympics. However, in my opinion, the key spirit of the winter Olympics is “Never giving up”.
Why do I think that is the key spirit The main reason is that sportsmen from Jamaica in the movie Cool Runnings (1993) have touched my heart. The movie is based on a true story of four Jamaican sportsmen. As we all know, Jamaica is really a hot country. But in such a country, they make a decision to become bobsledders (雪橇运动员). They are so poor that they can’t afford a bobsled (雪橇). So, they use wood to make one and practise on the hills. When they took part in the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, after they fell over, they carried their sled to the finish line. Though they didn’t win a prize, they finished the race. Their spirit has been encouraging me since then.
In our lives, we may have many similar difficulties. When everyone thought they would give up, they kept going to realize their dream. Can’t we solve difficulties in front of us I’m sure that we will succeed as long as we try our best. Even though we may fail, we won’t regret it.
So, just follow the lesson of the Olympics: Try your best and never give up.
