【考点突破】阅读理解:01 身心健康 专项练--2025中考英语备考(含答案)
A star athlete at the college where I work recently stopped by my office. After making a few mistakes during a weekend match, she couldn’t stop blaming herself. “I’m in the best condition, and I practice hard. How is this happening ” she asked.
Many students, like this girl, have a sense that the nights in the library and the hours on the field should lead them to success. When they win, they feel powerful and smart. When they fail, they always can’t help thinking “It must be all my fault.”
It’s common to see some young adults have difficulty in facing failure. Most people believe that’s because, they were well protected by their parents throughout their childhood. But there is something else at play: a wrong promise that they can achieve anything if they are willing to work on it. However, they sometimes fail although they try their best.
Psychologist Suniya Luthar believes some teens push themselves toward impossible goals. The fact is that you can do everything in your power and still fail. Instead of beating yourselves up when things don’t go your way, you should ask adults for help to go for success in healthier ways. You should learn to see failure as a natural part of learning. Parents and teachers can help you find purposes, or goals you really love to achieve, which may help you get greater life satisfaction.
The point is to remind yourself that something unexpected always happens in your life. It’s often the people who learn to say “stuff happens” who get up the fastest.
1.Why did the star athlete blame herself
A.Because she made mistakes during the match.
B.Because she didn’t try her best in the match.
C.Because she believed hard work was necessary.
D.Because she thought she should have practiced harder.
2.What do many students think according to Paragraph 2
A.Success is not important at all. B.They should bear failure on their own.
C.Nobody can beat them except themselves. D.They are sure to succeed if they work hard.
3.The underlined word “something” refers to the fact that ________.
A.they don’t want to work hard for their goals
B.their parents taught them how to deal with difficulties
C.they have no ability to solve problems
D.they were guided by a wrong promise
4.Which of the following does the writer probably agree with
A.Hard work will lead to achievements. B.A higher dream is the key to success.
C.Success is not always under control. D.Hard work is more important than ability.
Which is more important in your mind, looking fashionable or feeling comfortable You may find many people choose style over comfort and some even go to extremes (极端) to follow fashion. But we should remember: being fashionable isn’t everything. It’s more important to be healthy.
Some people believe that they need to be a certain size to look good. So, they start extreme diets that are not good for their health. They might not eat meals or eat too little, which can make them feel sick. Is it a healthy way to live
Also, many girls wear shoes with very high heels (鞋跟). They might think high heels make them look taller. But these shoes can hurt their feet and make it hard to walk comfortably, and they can increase the risk of falls. Some even wear the clothes that influence blood circulation (循环) making it hard to breathe. Should we put fashion over comfort and physical health
Besides, some boys and girls spend a lot of time and money changing their hair colour. The material they use to change hair colours is usually harmful to their health. To make their hair straight or curly, they also use tools that are hot enough to burn their hair. But using these tools too often or at very high temperatures can make the hair dry or even burnt. Is it really worth it to risk our health, spending so much time and money
So, let’s think again: what’s really important Is it fashion or is it our well-being Remember, health comes first. Instead of following extreme diets, let’s eat properly and exercise every day. And instead of spending a lot of time choosing clothes, we could use the time to do fun things with friends. Clothes or hairstyles don’t tell us anything about a person’s character. Your value is not decided by your appearance, but by who you are as a person.

“Early to bed and early to rise make a man healthy, wealthy and wise.” This is an old English saying. It means that when we go to bed early, we can get up early the next morning. Then we will become healthy. We will also become rich and clever.
This is true. To keep healthy, we must have enough sleep. Experts (专家) say that adults (成人) should get seven to eight hours of sleep a night. Teenagers need nine to ten hours of sleep. And school-aged children may need more than ten hours of sleep. Children who do not have enough sleep can’t do their work very well. They won’t be wise and they may not become wealthy!
We also need exercise. Walking, running, swimming and playing games are all exercise. Exercise keeps us strong. It also helps the blood to move around the body. This is very important. Our blood takes the nutrition (营养) from food to all parts of our body.

Are you the kind of person who always keeps a piece of chocolate nearby Perhaps you feel weak or sleepy without your sweets. If so, you may have a problem that millions of others have: sugar addiction (瘾).
Addiction means you use a thing or do an activity over and over again, although that’s bad for you. Playing computer games, drinking and eating are examples of activities that can develop into addiction.
There are four stages (阶段) of sugar addiction. Stage one begins with a strong need for something sweet. In stage two, even after the sugar has been eaten, the need remains and grows.
You must eat more sugar to feel happy. In stage three, when you don’t eat the sugar you want, you feel bad. It doesn’t stop there. You also have some physical problems like headaches. Overtime, sugar addiction will reach stage four. This stage shows the worst health impacts (影响) of sugar addiction.
Breaking sugar addiction can be difficult, but it is important for your health. There are a few things to keep in mind. It’s simple advice you probably have heard before. Eat three meals a day, get enough sleep, and exercise often. Choose healthy sweets, like fruit. And remember: don’t push yourself too hard.

The smartphone and the computer are two important inventions in our daily life. They help us in many ways, but they may also lead to health problems.
First, looking at the screen of your smartphone or computer for too long can make your eyes dry. It is not good for your eyesight. To help your eyes keep healthy, you can follow the “20-20-20” rule—after 20 minutes’ use of eyes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
Next, other parts of our body could also become worse because of using smartphones. When we write a lot of text messages (信息), we can develop “texting thumbs (拇指)”. It will stop us from holding things well. So we have to exercise our thumbs and fingers from time to time.
In addition, smartphones could hurt our brain. One of the biggest problems is that using smartphones can have bad effects on our sleep. Doctors say the screen light keeps us from feeling sleepy. So they advise people not to use smartphones for at least one hour before sleeping.
Finally, another serious danger is Internet addiction (瘾). Many people go on the Internet to keep themselves off feeling nervous, sad or lonely. Over time, they may start to be addicted to the Internet and feel worried if they’re not online. One way to work out this problem is to control the time they spend on the Internet.
All in all, make sure you follow the above advice to use your smartphone or your computer safely. Also, remember to enjoy your life more than just looking at the screens.

①Did you know that architecture (建筑) can shape who we become For example, studies showed that rooms with lower ceilings (天花板) can make you more focused (专注), while rooms with higher ceilings can make you more creative.
②Connecting nature with buildings is good for our bodies and minds. A study by Heidelberg University in Germany found that people who grew up in the countryside are less likely to have mental (精神的) illnesses than those raised in cities. Vancouver, Canada, is a city surrounded (被围绕) by mountains and ocean. The city plans its buildings carefully so that tall ones don’t block (遮住) people’s views of the ocean and mountains.
③Architecture that has no soul (灵魂) can also influence our moods (心情), according to The Guardian. For example, in a study that took place in Lower Manhattan, New York City, people’s moods got worse as they walked past the boring glass in front of a supermarket. They even started walking faster, as if they wanted to get away quickly. However, when they reached lively restaurants and shops, their moods improved a lot.
④To make architecture more interesting, designers should avoid too many flat (平的) and straight designs. These kinds of designs don’t allow light and shadow to create interesting patterns. They also don’t fit well with nature, making buildings seem boring. To add life to architecture, designers should pick colors carefully to create different moods, according to Forbes. Bright colors like yellow and orange can make people feel energetic and happy, while calm colors like blue and green can help people feel relaxed.
⑤So, for your own well-being, surround yourself with buildings that make you happy and, ideally, let you see nature too.

If you ever have the desire to break out into song in the shower, in the car, maybe at your neighbor’s karaoke night—you should embrace it whole-heartedly. This ancient art not only makes you feel good, but it can also improve your well-being, reduce your feelings of pain, and even extend your life.
Using your voice to sing, rather than simply carrying out a conversation, offers unique benefits because singing affects our bodies. Also, studies link singing with a lower heart rate decreased blood pressure and reduced stress according to Patricia Preston-Roberts, a music therapist (治疗师). She uses the song to help patients who suffer from a variety of problems.
Singing, particularly in a group, seems to benefit the elderly particularly well. As part of a three-year study examining how singing affects the health of those fifty-five and older, a Senior Singers Chorus was formed by the Levine School of Music in Washington, D.C. The seniors involved in the chorus, as well as seniors in two separate arts groups about writing and painting, showed significant health improvements compared to those in the control groups (控制组). Obviously, the arts groups reported thirty fewer doctors’ visits, fewer eyesight problems, less depression, and less need for medication.
Even lead researcher Dr. Gene. D.Cohen director of the Center on aging at George Washington University, was surprised at how big an effect the seniors’ arts participation had on their health. Cohen said, “The average age of all the subjects was eighty. This is higher than life expectancy. So, if an effect were to be achieved, one would ordinarily expect to see less decline (下降) compared to the control group. The fact that there was so much improvement in many areas was the surprising factor.” The seniors also noticed health improvements and they reported feeling better both in daily life and while singing.
The part of the brain that works with speech is different from the part that processes music. “People seem to enjoy doing something jointly with other people. There are a lot of facts that being socially involved is good for people with dementia (老年痴呆).” Ballard said.
The arts are showing up as a treatment tool in hospitals across the country. If you are thinking of volunteering, singing at a hospital may be a good choice—not only for the patients, but also for yourself.

Angus has a special illness and his IQ (智商) is lower than a normal boy. Six months ago, he started learning how to grow flowers. We can see Angus is able to work in a garden center in the future.”
