阅读(共两节,满分 50 分)
第一节(共 15 小题,每小题 2.5 分,满分 37.5 分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的 A、B、C、D 四个选项中选出最佳选项。
As a young girl, I loved sports, and I used to watch the Olympics with my dad, dreaming of being one of those athletes. I didn’t know then that my life would lead me to cycling and give me the opportunity to achieve that dream. While many people might not be deeply familiar with cycling, everyone understands the significance of the Olympics. Just being chosen for this event pushed my career to a new level.
I was most excited that my family and friends could come to watch me participate and share the experience with me, for the Olympics were taking place in Paris this time. I was a much more experienced rider than I had been in Rio and Tokyo, which helped me stay calm and better understand the race scenarios. I hadn’t seen the course yet, but the profile suggested a classic style race that would be competitive and quite technical—all aspects I enjoyed. Being able to compete in such an environment, especially with the support of my loved ones, added a significant layer of excitement and motivation.
Staying at the Olympic Village was also an amazing experience. The large food courts were shared by all, meaning I could be having breakfast with someone I admired and watched on TV. We were able to stay and relax in the village after our competition, fully feeling the village energy. It was like a small city for athletes, where we could observe how others prepared for their events and how they handled the post-competition emotions. Although the rules had changed, and we then had to leave the accommodation soon after our events, the village kept exciting and encouraging us.
At the Olympics, we represented our country or region, and riders who were our rivals finally became our teammates for the event. The team atmosphere and mutual understanding between each other were key, and I was lucky to be part of a supportive group of girls who shared the same goal.
21.What is the author’s main purpose in writing paragraph 1
A.To show the Olympic events to readers.
B.To show the role of cycling in the Olympics.
C.To show the effect of the Olympics on her life.
D.To show the love of her family for the Olympics.
22.What was the most exciting part of the Paris Olympics for the author
A.Being experienced in riding. B.Having her loved ones’ company.
C.Having more chances to be a winner. D.Being able to see the course in advance.
23.What did the author think of the Olympic Village
A.Awkward. B.Changeable.
C.Classic. D.Inspiring.
24.What does the underlined word “rivals” mean in the last paragraph
A.Friends. B.Members. C.Competitors. D.Audiences.
Entrepreneur and CEO of Tesla and Space X, Elon Musk may have a little more time on his hands, as he’s leaving his position on the board of the Open AI, according to a blog post.
The departure is likely the result of Tesla’s moving into the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), which he said in 2017 would be the “best in the world” and would even be able to “predict your destination.” Musk will continue to “donate and advise the organization,” Open AI said in a blog post on Feb. 20, adding that “As Tesla continues to become more focused on AI, this will avoid a potential future conflict for Elon.”
Musk and Y Combiner CEO Sam Altman co-founded the nonprofit enterprise in December 2015, its mission is to develop safe artificial general intelligence and ensure those developments are made public. Open AI researchers published a paper on the site arXiv. org, detailing the possible secure threats that come with “malicious” A I. In fact, Musk has heard of the “evil AI” alarm several times. On Aug. 11, 2017, he warned that artificial intelligence poses a bigger threat to humanity, and he told a gathering of state governors that the government needs to regulate AI before robots start “killing people.”
Musk’s departure from the Open AI board could mean big things for Tesla. As Elon Goodbye, a financial reporter, noted on Futurism, the move “could signal that Tesla is more deeply committed to their own AI projects than we thought.” He added, “Those who have had their ears to any rumors that Tesla is ready to deliver vehicles capable of Level 5 autonomy could take this new Open AI development as a sign that the company is inching closer to that unapproachable goal.” No company has reached that level of autonomy, which means that a driverless car could navigate any road under any conditions and that all the human “driver” would need to do is to input a destination.
25.Why does Elon Musk leave his position
A.To create safer AI. B.To build the powerful Internet.
C.To develop social communication. D.To avoid a possible conflict with Tesla.
26.What is the Elon Musk’s attitude towards the AI
A.Ambiguous. B.Negative.
C.Supportive. D.Sympathetic.
27.What does the underlined word “malicious” in Paragraph 3 mean
A.Advanced. B.Unpopular.
C.Poisonous. D.Traditional.
28.What can we infer from Elon Goodbye’ comments
A.Level 5 autonomy is impossible.
B.The rumors about Tesla is meaningless.
C.He has no confidence in Open AI.
D.Level 5 autonomy could set human drivers free.
Every year, thousands of teenagers take part in programs at their local art museums. But do any of them remember their time at museum events later in life A new report suggests that the answer is yes - and finds that graduates of arts-based museum programs credit them with changing the course of their lives, even years after the fact.
The Whitney Museum of American Art the Walker Art Center and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles recently asked researchers to carry out a study to find out how effective their long-standing teen art programs really are. They involved over 300 former members of four programs for teens that have been in existence since the 1990s. Graduates, whose current ages are from 18 to 36, were invited to be the subjects (对象) of the study to find out how they viewed their participation years after the fact.
Among the graduates surveyed, 75 percent of graduates rated (排名) die teen program experience as the most favorable impact on their own lives, beating family, school and their neighborhoods. Nearly 55 percent thought that it was one of the most important experiences they’ d ever had, regardless of (不管) age and two-thirds said that they were often in situations where then experience in museums affected their actions or thoughts.
It turns out that taking part in art programs also helps keep teens enthusiastic (热情的) about arts even after they reach adulthood: 96 percent of participants (参与者) had visited an art museum within the last two years, and 68 percent had visited an art museum five or more times within the last two years. Thirty-two percent of program graduates work in the arts as adults.
Though the study is the first of its kind to explore the impact (影响) of teen-specific art programs in museums, it reflects other research on the important benefits of engaging with the arts. A decade of surveys the National Endowment for the Arts found that childhood experience with the arts have linked arts education to everything from lower drop-out rates to improvement in critical thinking skills.

A.Passion for arts may remain long in kids’ whole life.
B.No other studies exist about the benefits of arts.

The researchers found that more than half of the decline in the Colorado River’s flow is connected to increasing temperatures, and as warming continues, they say the risk of “severe water shortages” for the millions that rely on it is expected to-grow.
The study also examined the impact that action to control pollution of heat-trapping gases could have on the river’s water supply. Some decrease in the flow is likely no matter what actions are taken, but without any cuts to emissions, the river’s discharge(流量)could shrink by between 19% and 31% by the middle of this century.
The Colorado River starts high in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and Wyoming. On its route, this river supplies major cities like Denver, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and San Diego, as well as farms in the US and Mexico that grow the vegetables that feed, millions around the world. It supports around $1 trillion of economic activity each year.
Global warming is reducing the snowpack that feeds the river. As temperatures increase, snow cover in the region is declining, meaning less energy from the sun is reflected back into space and more warms the ground as heat. The river’s flow has also been cut down by a severe drought during the last two decades, leaving its two main reservoirs-Lake Powell and Lake Mead -barely half full.
Udall, a senior climate scientist at Colorado State University, says these new findings show that the only way to save the river is by addressing the root cause of the problem: climate change. “The science is crystal clear we must reduce greenhouse gas emissions immediately,” he says. “We now have the technologies, the policies and favorable economics to accomplish greenhouse gas reductions. What we lack is the will.”
33.With cutting emissions, the river flow would reduce by ______.
A.less than 19% B.about 30%
C.over 19% D.between 19% and 31%
34.What does the author intend to tell us about the Colorado River in paragraph 3
A.It is a long river. B.It is very important.
C.It makes adequate electricity. D.It flows through more than two countries.
35.Which is one of the effects of the reduction of the snow cover
A.The weather becomes drier. B.The river gets more water.
C.The ground gets more heat. D.Droughts break out frequently.
36.What prevents people reducing greenhouse gas emissions according to Udall
A.Lack of will. B.Lack of cooperation.
C.Backward economy. D.Technology unavoidable

On Saturday night, my best friend called and invited me to her birthday the next day. I was very excited to go there, but I needed permission from my parents.
I went to my dad’s room and softly said, “Dad, tomorrow is my best friend’s birthday and I really want to go.” Papa said, “OK. I don’t mind, but ask your mom.”
I asked my mom and she said, “OK. You can go, but you have to be back before 10.”
The next morning my mom was surprised to see me. No alarm. No Mom’s warning. I just woke up by myself. Finally, the whole day had passed and it was party time. My dad dropped me off at my friend’s place and told me that he would pick me up at 10. I said “OK” and ran away.
I enjoyed myself a lot at the party. We had dinner and played so many games. It was 10 finally. I remembered my mom telling me that I should be back before 10. I came out and started searching for my dad, but I could not find him. I was so worried and scared. I waited and waited, and then I started walking. I thought at least I could walk home as my house was 20 minutes away from my friend’s. As I was walking, I was crying as I had never walked alone on the road that late at night.
Suddenly I heard someone shouting something. I was scared and started walking fast. I thought some criminal(不法分子) was there. As I was walking fast, I heard someone walking fast behind me. I started running and crying, and then I saw some parked cars. I hid behind the cars. I saw a shadow searching for me. I hoped someone would help me. 68.Finally, I arrived home, and I began crying when I saw my mom. “Mom, I was scared to death on the way home just now, and a bad man followed me all the time. Fortunately, I hid behind the car, and he didn't find me, so he left.” I said incoherently. After hearing this, my mother also showed a frightened expression on her face. She said, “Fortunately, you’re safe. But where’s your father Isn’t he picking you up ” I showed an aggrieved expression and said, “I waited for him outside for a while, but he didn't turn up. I thought it was time to go home, so I came back first. ” At this time, my father hurried in, and he said to his mother,“I didn't get our daughter. When I went to pick her up, I didn’t see her. Her friend said she had gone home. I chased out, and it seemed that I saw her on the road, but she disappeared in a moment.”
Hearing what my dad said, my mom couldn’t help laughing. Mother said cunningly, “Look, who’s that ” Then she winked at me. My father turned to look at me, and then showed a relieved and surprised expression. He asked me, “Didn’t you hear me when I called you What were you running for ” I smiled awkwardly, glanced at my mother, and then said, “Well..., I was very afraid, thinking you were a bad person, so I hid.” Dad laughed after listening, and encouraged me that I did well and know how to protect myself. But my father also said at least I should look around. In fact, sometimes things are not as bad as I think. After that, I realized that excessive fear will affect our judgment and thinking, so no matter what happens, we should be calm.
