New England holds some special museums. They are devoted largely or entirely to the work of just one person. And they are the artists’ birthplaces or onetime homes. Here are four examples of such museums.
Cyrus E. Dallin Art Museum
The name Cyrus E. Dallin (1861-1944) might not be familiar, but several of the artist’s sculptures (雕塑) are, especially those related to Native Americans. A good example is his “Appeal to the Great Spirit” standing in front of the Museum of Fine Arts. Born in Utah, he lived in Arlington for the final four decades of his life. The museum is in the Jefferson Cutter House, an 1830 Greek styled building.
Norman Rockwell Museum
Rockwell (1894-1978) was America’s well-known artist. The museum, founded in 1969, moved into its present location, Robert A.M. Stern-designed building in 1993. Its 998 paintings and drawings are the largest single collection of Rockwell's artworks.
Kids 16 and under: free; adults: $20; the old: at a 10% discount (折扣)

Edward Gorey House is also known as the Elephant House. Gorey had respect for animals. The activities of the house, from art education to exhibits, show Gorey's support of animal well-being.
Gibert Stuart Birthplace and Museum
Gilbert Stuart (1755-1828) is responsible for what may well be the most familiar work of any American artist, His drawing of George is the basis of the first president’s portrait (画像) on the dollar. Stuart painted more than a thousand portraits throughout his life.

Growing pains and gains
It’s not easy to grow up. Actually it’s far from easy. Growing up can be a real “pain” for some of us. We are always doing things that someone else makes us do and aren’t allowed to do all the things we like. Sometimes we feel trapped, sometimes we are fearful, and sometimes we just don’t understand why we can’t stay young forever. When we look back on all the hardships in life with a positive attitude, we realize that all of our growing pains actually turn into growing gains!
As a young girl my parents forced my sisters and me to do so many things that I never liked. They made me learn to play the violin and then the piano. At that time I hated music, just because it was what they wanted me to do. But looking back now, I am so glad that my parents encouraged me to take music lessons. Music has enriched my life in so many ways. I realize that my parents and teachers were always pushing me along, not because they wanted me to suffer but because they wanted me to succeed in life. They’ve always wanted me to have a better life than they did themselves.
Every moment of our lives we are either living or dying, so live life to its fullest! We are all going to experience growing pains, but they are just small pains in life. They might seem so huge at the time but we must be strong. Think about how we would feel if we had no fear and live life like that. The future is ours!
A little hard work and sweat never hurt anyone! If we realize that these pains are just small bumps (凸块) on our road to success we will realize that our growing pains are actually growing gains!
24.According to Paragraph 1, we learn that when we are young, __________.
A.life is full of joy B.life is easy for us
C.we know we can stay young forever D.we sometimes can’t do things we like
25.When the author was young, she was forced by her parents to_________.
A.take music lessons B.tum gains into pains
C.look back on hardships D.live a successful life by suffering a lot
26.What does the underlined phrase “to its fullest” mean
A.directly. B.completely. C.carefully. D.terribly
27.What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A.Growing pains are necessary for us to grow up.
B.We all have to experience growing pains.
C.A little hard work and sweat are harmful to us.
D.Life without fear is a better choice for us.

Lion dance, which mimics(模仿) a lion with kung fu and acrobatic(杂技的) styles, is a traditional Chinese performing art that could often be seen during festive occasions like Spring Festival. It’s believed to have started in the Three Kingdoms period and peaked in the Southern and Northern Dynasties. In ancient China, the lion was regarded as a symbol of good luck. The lion dance is often performed in celebrations to this day and in 2006, it was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage(非物质文化遗产).
Qiu Haiwei, 17, and Huang Qingliang, 16, are two lion dance lovers in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. They started learning the dance two years ago. Though lion dance performances are breathtaking, learning the art is another matter.
Dancing on the poles makes the art a fascinating sight. There are 21 poles of heights between 1.2 meters and 2.5 meters with up to 1.8 meters between them. A single false step will send the performers falling to the ground below.
As a result, the ancient art form has fallen out of favor with the young generation, as the skills take years to master while only a low wage can be earned. Also, coaches and funding can be hard to find, so it’s difficult for a lion dance troupe (表演队) to survive. But since 2017, local authorities in Guangxi have teamed up with companies and schools to help reboot the ancient art.
“We must work hard to help pass on the heritage and its spirit to future generations,” Deng Minghua, a national inheritor of the cultural heritage, told Xinhua.
28.What’s the longest distance between two poles used for lion dance
A.1.8 meters. B.2.5 meters. C.1.2 meters. D.2.4 meters.
29.Why is it difficult for the lion dance troupe to survive
A.No one wants to learn lion dance.
B.Mastering lion dance takes decades.
C.The payment is not satisfying enough.
D.Coaches are not professional enough.
30.What can be learned about lion dance according to the text
A.People will perform it only in spring festival.
B.Local authorities attach great importance to it.
C.It started in the Southern and Northern Dynasties.
D.It has been added to the list of tangible cultural heritage.
31.What’s the text mainly about
A.The future development of lion dance.
B.How to perform lion dance successfully.
C.Why young generations don’t prefer lion dance.
D.The importance of keeping lion dance culture alive.

“Farm to table” is the name of a movement that encourages people to eat locally (在当地) grown food. The farm-to-table idea has become more popular in recent years. But there is also a movement that brings “table to farm”. Its purpose is to connect people to the land and to honor local farmers by creating a sort of restaurant without walls.
Its founder, Jim Denevan, got the idea for this kind of “culinary adventure (美食探险)” , as he called it, ten years ago. He recently prepared tables for more than a hundred people at Briar Farm in Virgina. He and his eight-member team arrived the night before. Chefs (厨师) from a local restaurant prepared the dinner.
Jim Denevan’s brother is a farmer and he himself is a chef. He thought that the idea of a meal served right on the farm made sense, though not everyone agreed.
“But I wanted to make the idea work, so I decided to cross the country,” said Devevan. “I went all the way across the United States and set the table on farms, ranches (大牧场), beaches, and all the places where food came from.”
“This kind of event connect us with a lot of enthusiastic people that we can form relationships with,” said Matt Szechenyi, who operates (经营) Briars Frame.
Annoica Ingram came with a friend. “The food is wonderful. I appreciate their hard work. I see everything they have to do to take care of the animals and make sure they are well-cared –for. Without them, I think, we’ll have big problems,” she said.
32.What is the main purpose of the movement “table to farm”

Studying longer does not necessarily mean studying better. 36 Below are some great ways of learning as much as you can without getting too stressed.
Find the right place to study.
The first thing you need to do is avoid distractions (分散注意力的事物) while studying. 37 You should keep away from television sets and phone calls. Get all of your study materials together, so you will not be interrupted in the middle of your session.
Break down the tasks into smaller parts.
When you have gotten everything ready, list the items you need to study, and arrange them across several hours or days, depending on how big your load is. As a general rule, assign (分配) at least one hour to each subject. 38 By doing this, you will be able to know more easily how long you need for each topic.
Schedule study breaks.
When you have listed all of your tasks and made a schedule, you should arrange study breaks. 39 This will give your eyes some time to rest, and yourself a chance to go to the bathroom or have some coffee. Scheduled breaks will reduce the need for you to interrupt yourself to the lowest level during the study session.
Put your tasks in order of importance.
40 Just in case you run out of time to study, or if you think you do not have enough time to cover all topics, you should study in an order.
A.Each break may take about 15 minutes every two hours.
B.Learn to arrange the subjects in order of importance.
C.This means going to one place that will give you peace and quiet.
D.The key to efficient studying is following the schedule strictly.

Culture shock is a complex topic, but I’m a simple man with simple perspective. So my experience of foreign culture boils down to (归结为) three basic stages: anger, acceptance and appreciation.
When I 41 my life in China, I was often filled with frustration and anger over the way things were. Things were seen as clearly “ 42 ” and I rejected the view of there being other ways of doing things. Afterwards I came to 43 different ways of doing things 44 still saw my own ways as superior.
My views were still heavily colored by preferences and I often accepted situations I felt 45 by simply coining the phrase “That’s China”, 46 China was a backward country that simply didn’t do things correctly. Finally, 47 , I came to understand and appreciate the new culture and ways of doing things, sometimes using them as effectively as the 48
For example, fish is never 49 with the head in my country, thus my feelings went from “Ugh! I can’t eat this! The fish is 50 at me saying, ‘You’re a cruel man.’ Take this off the table.” to “I’ll let my friends enjoy it, but I’ll just stick with the other 51 .” and to “Would anyone mind if I eat the eyeball ”
It is not the same with every westerner, and some take longer than others to go through the three stages. It all depends on how 52 you are and how tightly you 53 to your own culture. It took a little over a year of living in China 54 I finally appreciated the new culture. Now, I’m more 55 in China than in my own country.

My name is Bronson Layton. I am 23 years old, I am a college student, and I have a story that I feel should be shared with the world.
I come from a family that had never had a single record of ancestry with autism (自闭症), until the day I was born. When I was two years old, my parents were still getting used to the lifestyle of raising a normal kid, but what they had noticed was what they considered “out of the ordinary” behavior. Whatever toys I played with, I placed them in a straight line. When I was not satisfied, I got angry easily.
Soon after my parents noticed these signs, they took me to a child expert, who eventually informed them that I was diagnosed (诊断) with a type of autism, a disorder that delays the nervous growth of a child’s brain.
My diagnosis was in 1999, a time when autism was still not commonly understood and was still being observed. At first, my parents were shocked at the news from an expert that I was going to grow up blind, but they (and I) were not prepared for how the following events would completely change our lives forever.
As I got older, I began to change from keeping myself alone to getting with other kids once I entered public school in first grade. I noticed how the other kids were able to answer questions in class a lot faster than I could understand. Because of my slow thinking, it took me two minutes to come up with an answer. From that year on, I received special accommodations for my studies, such as sitting in front of the class to read the blackboard better, and taking longer time on tests.

Meanwhile, try to memorize words and sentences as much as possible, which helps enlarge your vocabulary, Besides, it is suggested that you read a variety of English books after school, which is good for your writing. Last but not least, you should use English more often, such as trying communicating in English with classmates.
