“Yes, I think that’s a good idea,” I replied. “They’ll be relieved to know you’re safe.”
“But I can’t remember their telephone numbers,” she said helplessly.
I decided to call a policeman I knew well, who often patrolled (巡逻) our area. The policeman arrived quickly and dealt with the situation with great care. He spoke kindly to the girl, asking her about her plans and her friend. He told her the importance of staying safe and keeping her parents informed.
Some minutes later, the girl’s neighbour, an older girl, arrived. The policeman spoke to them about the possible dangers of wandering (闲逛) around town.
