By the end of this period,students will be able to
1.figure out the structure of the passage by analyzing the main idea of each paragraph.
2.identify useful expressions about the Internet and use them to express opinions.
3.connect their own life experience of using the Internet with the text.

2. To talk about how the Internet has changed people's lives and how to use the Internet appropriately.

1. To enable students to judge the structure of the passage and catch the key information to understand the text.
2. To enable students to voice personal ideas with the help of the useful patterns and expressions about the topic.

Step I Pre-reading
1.Talk about the Internet vocabulary.
2. Have you ever experienced anything interesting while surfing the Internet Share it with your partner.

Activity 1 Prediction
Ask students to read the title of the text “Stronger Together:How We Have Been Changed by the Internet".Try to answer the following questions.
1.What do you think the text will say
2. How do you think the writer feels about the topic
Read headlines
Headlines usually include only key ideas or information from the text. They often do not follow strict grammar rules,because writers use as few words as possible to catch the attention of the readers.
Suggested answers:
1.The text will say that we have been changed a lot by the Internet and that it has brought us together.
2.I think the writer feels positive about this topic because he/she says “stronger together".

Look up more information about the advantages and disadvantages of using the Internet. Write a report and present it next period.
教学反思
本节课是读思课,主题是“创办网上社区”(Start an online community),渗透了较强的文化意识。通过分享女教师Jan 用互联网改变自己的生活并帮助其他老年人学会使用互联网,从而也改变了他们的生活和命运的美好故事,让同学们了解到互联网给社会文明带来的变化。阅读过程注重对语篇结构的把握,问题设置层层递进,引导学生联想预测,梳理文章主旨大意和重要细节,突出了阅读获取信息的能力的培养,强调了语篇知识和阅读技能对阅读理解的重要性,贯彻了读思一体的课堂教学思路,将语言学习、文化渗透和思维发展有机融为一体,充分体现了新教材的编写理念和英语教学改革的方向。
本节课的不足之处:由于词汇量储备不够,部分学生的口语表达不够流畅,讨论环节占用时间较多。
改进措施:平时注重话题词汇的积累,鼓励学生积极表达,并留出足够的课堂时间让他们展示。
