Tai Chi sets up good relationships 48 yin and yang, while they aren`t opposite. Just like the Tai Chi picture. A white circle is in the black area and a black circle is in the white area. After a dark night. the sun will rise. Leaves fall in autumn but grow in spring. Everything keeps changing. Yin and yang depend on each other and make a 49 to each other. A cup of coffee before breakfast, is considered quite normal for many people, especially those who have to rise early for work. Some experts, however, have warned the morning habit could have an effect on your health.
Experts have warned the possible bad effects of drinking coffee on an empty stomach. Researchers from the University of Bath have advised making sure to line your stomach before drinking caffeine, which they say could greatly affect a person`s blood sugar control.
The study, the findings of which were published in the British Journal of Nutrition, was carried out on 29 healthy male and female volunteers, all of whom took part in three different overnight experiments.
In scene one, volunteers have a sugary drink after waking up from a normal, uninterrupted(不间断的)sleep. In scene two, they had the exact same drink after sleeping poorly, having been awoken every hour for five minutes
each time. When it came to the third scene, volunteers drank a strong black coffee after waking up from an interrupted sleep and were also given a sugary drink half an hour later. Once all three experiments ended, researchers collected blood samples from each of the 29 volunteers and examined their blood sugar level.
It was found that interrupted sleep had no obvious important effect on a person`s blood sugar level when compared to uninterrupted sleep. A strong black coffee drank on an empty stomach, however, increased their blood sugar level to the sugary drink by about 50 percent.
Although further research is needed to better understand long-term risks, the final research result of the researchers is that drinking black coffee first thing before breakfast could actually have an important effect on a person`s blood sugar and metabolic(代谢)control after an interrupted night`s sleep.
58. What do experts suggest before you drink coffee
A. Getting enough sleep. B. Having a sugary drink.
C. Eating something. D. Filling yourself up with food.
59. What is paragraph 4 mainly about

60. What can be inferred from the research result
A. Normal sleep helps low blood sugar level.
B. A sugary drink is no good for an empty stomach.
C. Interrupted sleep has little effect on blood sugar level.
D. Male volunteers achieve uninterrupted sleep easily.

In early 2024, I hit a rut in my studies. Although I had been productive early in my graduate career, my long hours and hard work were no longer translating into success in the laboratory, and I felt hopeless about achieving my goals.
As I began to search for the cause of my struggles, I became increasingly aware that my “quiet time” at the lab bench was anything but. Instead of thinking about science, I was watching television or interacting with social media on my smartphone. Although I could mask this inefficiency(低效率)with longer hours, my work felt disorganized. Through reflection, I came to understand my problem.
To make a change, I reduced my connectivity by using a basic mobile phone without an Internet connection during work hours, and removing unnecessary apps from my smartphone when I did use it. Things didn`t go smoothly in the beginning, but with time, I started reading papers during long experiments, and began a habit of writing in my down time. These practices have already yielded success: I am currently preparing a review article for publication with my adviser. I have also felt more engaged in meetings—coming better prepared, asking questions and taking hand—written notes. Perhaps most importantly, I have felt my anxiety about work efficiency disappear and that my disorganized work—life relationship is traded for one with clearer boundaries.
Changing my smartphone habits has also created challenges. Not all my friends have been supportive of my reduced connectivity, and I have missed messages on communication services. Yet these problems have been a small price to pay for increased productivity. So if you find yourself in this situation, I encourage you to build down time and uninterrupted study into your schedule, which could be significant for your success.

D. Watching TV on my phone is always my choice during a break.
62. According to the author, what is the major benefit of changing smartphone habits
A. Enough time to read papers. B. A good balance between work and life.
C. The ability to publish scientific articles. D. More chances to attend important meetings.
63. What can be learned from the last paragraph
A. A full schedule for study is important in determining people`s career.
B. The author`s friends didn`t support his decision on smartphone usage.
C. Missed messages on communication apps didn't cause trouble to the author.
D. It is worthwhile to reduce the connectivity on smartphone despite challenges.
64. From the passage we can know that the author ________.
A. cared about what others said very much
B. chose to abandon his smartphone to make a change
C. hoped to help others by sharing his own experience
D. many times he tried to improve his work efficiency but failed

Smokey Bear is famous for warning against forest fires, but for most US homeowners, grass fires are actually more of a threat.
Forest fires are well known for their violence(猛烈). However, after analyzing the locations of homes within wildfire boundaries(边界)since the 1990s, a new study published in Science found they were responsible for just 33 percent of houses destroyed by wildfires in the early 2000s. In contrast, 64 percent of such houses were destroyed by grassland fires. This is because even though forest fires are more destructive to buildings and the number of forest fires has increased, much more buildings burned by wildfires were built in grasslands, the researchers found.
There are twice as many homes within wildfire boundaries today as there were 30 years ago, according to the study. Two factors have resulted in the situation. Fifty—three percent of this effect could be explained by an increasing amount of the burned areas: wildfires are more common and violent than they used to be. The other forty—seven percent was caused by the increased expansion of homes into what experts call the wildland urban(城市的)interface(WUI),where houses are against natural areas.
Homeowners in forested areas are often relatively well aware of their fire risk, says Sarah Anderson, a professor of environmental politics at the University of California Santa Barbara. But people living in a grassy space may not realize the danger. “This paper probably implies we need to do a lot more public education,” Anderson says.
There are ways to augment the survival rate, says Yana Valachovic, forest adviser and county director at the University of California Cooperative Extension. For example, homeowners can protect themselves by blocking vent openings so that fire can`t land in eaves, pulling plants and wood coverings away from ground and using metal fences to replace wood ones.
65. Why did grassland fires destroy more houses than forest fires
A. There were less and less forest fires. B. More burnt houses were in grasslands.
C. Forest fires were less destructive to houses. D. The houses in grasslands were of lower quality.
66. What may cause increased homes in wildfire boundaries according to the text
A. Reduced urban areas. B. Less houses into WUI.
C. More violent wildfires. D. Increased love for nature.
67. What need homeowners in grasslands do according to Anderson
A. Warn themselves of forest fires. B. Move their houses to forested areas.
C. Increase their awareness of fire risk. D. Reduce the destruction of grasslands.
68. What does the underlined word “augment” mean in the last paragraph
A. Test. B. Control. C. Compare. D. Increase.

When we walk the “path of life”, social life is very important. More often than not, close friendships can help us smooth out the sometimes rocky road that we are meant to travel. 73 Through friendships, we can become happier, wiser and more satisfied humans.
They can comfort the heart because the peace comes from having someone with whom we share our joy, sadness, success and failure. 74 Happiness takes on a greater meaning and a trouble shared becomes a trouble halved!
They can advise the head because we may have better understanding and judgement through conversations with wise friends. If we are guided only by our own feelings, our judgement might be one—sided. On the other hand, our friends may offer advice on important decisions we have to make. Also, when we want to talk our problems over with a friend, we have to put our thoughts into words first. 75
They can help us achieve the goals we set for ourselves because friends may offer help in many different ways. Sometimes a friend is even known as our “second self`. 76 Friends may have many different ideas and skills so they can help us achieve what we want during life.
77 If we want to better walk the “path of life” with the comfort, advice and help from our trusted friends, we should choose friends and develop relationships carefully.

Sugar-free cookies, sugar-free candy, and diet soda—are these better for you After sugar became a no-no in the nutrition and wellness world, sugar-free food and drinks acted as a replacement for once beloved sweet drinks and snacks. Being claimed to be ZERO sugar means the food and drinks are healthier, better for diabetics, and help you slim down…Right Wrong. Sugar-free products aren`t better for you. In fact, they are worse. For most sugar-free products, it means that artificial sweeteners(甜味剂)are used instead of real sugar. The problem is that these sweeteners do not come from natural soures and they can do you more harm than good.
Let`s get into what these artificial sweeteners actually are. Sugar-free sugar sounds wrong because there is no such thing as sugar-free sugar. Some of these sugar-free alternatives even contain sugar and the ones that have chemicals your body often does not know how to process. Most artificial sweeteners are a lot sweeter than sugar so only a small quantity of them are needed. That`s why they can market sugar-free alternatives as “low-calorie” or “no-calorie`. It also means that you get no nutritional value from consuming them, which is why so many sugar-free replacements are classified as “non-nutritive”. These artificial sweeteners tend to hide under some names. Actually, they are 200-600 times sweeter than sugar.
When you eat sweet stuff, your body continues to desire it and, even though your body cannot metabolize(代谢)these sugar-free alternatives, your brain does not know the difference. In turn sugar-free alternatives relate to weight gain and Type-2 diabetes(糖尿病). Besides, artificial sweeteners also damage your gut`s ability to break down sugar which impacts everything you eat. In other words, your body doesn`t know how to handle artificial sweeteners because they have nothing real to process.
Here is a good rule of thumb: stay away from artificial sweeteners and look for non-sugar, natural sweeteners like stevia(甜叶菊)or date sugar. In the war against artificial sweeteners and real sugar, both lose. Satisfy your sweet tooth with natural sugar that comes from fruits and stay away from products claimed to be sugar-free.
69. What do most sugar-free products have in common
A. They don`t taste sweet. B. They are free of calories.
C. They are rich in nutrition. D. They have artificial sweeteners.
70. What can be inferred about artificial sweeteners
A. They are as sweet as sugar. B. They cause a big risk to health.
C. They can be metabolized easily D. They have long been added to food.
71. What does the author advise us to do
A. To keep a balanced diet. B. To stay away from sugary products.
C. To choose fewer artificial ingredients. D. To take in sugar from natural sources
72. Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A. Why are sugar-free products bad for your health
