I started running half marathons when I was a teenager. A half marathon is 21kilometres. I was willing to try a full marathon, but 42 kilometres is a long race and Iprefer the shorter distance. I'm almost 70 now, so I' ve done them for nearly 50 years. I still get the same excitement during each race as I used to.
I used to run around 15 races every year 40 years ago. I got quite good at them. I think my personal best was around 1 hour 17 minutes, which was only ten minutes over the world record back then. These days I run about 5 races a year and my time is quite slow. At my age, I need a lot more preparation and my body doesn't get well as quickly as before, but it's well worth all the extra work.
There are two main reasons why I still run half marathons. Firstly, it means I'm keeping myself fit. My doctor told me that I was healthier than most people half my age! But I think the real reason I love the sport so much is the other people I meet. I get to know other runners and I' ve made many good friends over the years.
It takes me a lot of time to visit schools to get children interested in sports, especially running. I think it's really important to do sports from an early age. This is because you are easier to keep doing as growing up. The kids are always interested and they ask me lots of questions. Many of them can't believe that I'm the same age as their grandfathers. Sometimes I invite them to run a five-kilometre race with me, but not many of them can beat me!
36. What does Dan say about running according to the second paragraph
A. He runs faster but his body hurts more.
B. He doesn't like the experience as much as before.
C. He finds the world record was around 77 minutes back then.
D. He thinks it harder to prepare and needs more time between races.
37. How many kilometres did Dan run in a year when he was in his thirties
A.315 B.210 C.105 D.630
38. What does Dan enjoy most about races
A. Having the same excitement. B. Breaking world records.
C. Making new friends. D. Showing he was still young.
39. Why does Dan visit schools
A. To beat the kids by running. B. To encourage kids to do sports.
C. To show that old people can run fast. D. To teach the history of marathon.
40. What might Dan write in his diary according to the article
A. “I'm training for a full marathon. I can't wait to run 42 kilometres!”
B. “It's helpful of my doctor to advise me to stop running half marathons.”
C. “I hope everyone can do sports from an early age and get interested in it.”
D“I'm worrying about my next marathon because I run more slowly than before.”

There was one tree in Doug's backyard. Only one tree, but it was enough. It was the biggest tree Doug had ever seen. Doug was young and not very strong, but he knew he could climb this tree.
He waited until the weather was perfect: early autumn —— crisp but not cold. He wore a blue sweater and his worn-out old shoes. His gloves (手套) were so thick that they could keep him away from the hurt from the tree trunk. He was ready.
“Wait here,” he told his dog, Harvey. “I’ ll be back later.” The tree was his special place so he didn't want to share it with anyone else.
Doug jumped for the lowest branch. He nearly slipped (打滑) but held on. Using all his strength, he pulled himself up.
He continued slowly and carefully. He was in no hurry because he had all day.
Halfway up the tree, Doug took a break. He didn't feel tired but wanted to rest before getting tired out.
“Hello,” he said to a passing butterfly. “Any advice for me ”
The butterfly didn't reply. Doug didn't need her help anyway. It was time to continue. He was just a few branches from the top. Suddenly, something terrible happened.
He lifted his left leg and placed it onto the next branch. The wood was old and weak. It broke and fell to the ground. Doug was watching and prepared. As his left foot slipped, he held himself in the air with his arms. Breathing slowly, he moved his legs forward and stepped onto the next branch. He was safe again.
“That's enough for today,” he said. “The top can wait.”

第三节 书面表达(共1题,满分10分)
During our English Week, we had a debate on "Is memory the key factor in English learning " Some students believed that having a good memory is important because it allows you to remember a lot of vocabulary. However, other students thought that learning English well depends on using the right methods, such as reading more and practicing listening and speaking skills.
In my opinion, both memory and methods are important for learning English. Memory helps us to remember new words and phrases, while good learning methods make our study more effective. We should use our memory to learn new things and also find the best ways to study. This combination can help us learn English better.
I had a good time in the English week. What do you think about it
