(24-25高三上·湖北·期末)After graduating from high school, Amelia Earhart spent a vacation in Toronto, Canada, where she spotted wounded soldiers returning from World War I. Then, she volunteered as a nurse’s aide, coming to know many wounded pilots. She developed a strong admiration for aviators, spending much of her free time watching the Royal Flying Corps practicing at the airfield nearby.
At a Long Beach air show, Earhart took a plane ride that transformed her life. It was only 10 minutes, but when she landed she knew she had to learn to fly. Working at a variety of jobs, from photographer to truck driver, she earned enough money to take flying lessons. She read everything she could find on flying and spent much of her time at the airfield. She cropped her hair short, in the style of other women aviators. Worried about what the other more experienced pilots might think of her, she even slept in her new leather jacket for three nights to give it a more “worn” look.
Soon, she rose her fame and became the 16th woman to be issued a pilot’s license by The Federation Aeronautique. One day, Earhart received a phone call, asking her, “Would you like to fly the Atlantic ” In a heartbeat, she said yes. She was selected to be the first woman on a transatlantic flight as a passenger.
On June 17, 1928, Earhart took off from Trepassey Harbor in a Fokker named Friendship. Accompanying her on the flight were three other male pilots. Approximately 20 hours and 40 minutes later, they touched down safely. Earhart later confessed that she felt she “was just baggage, like a sack of potatoes”. Then she added, “Maybe someday I’ll try it alone.”

2.Why did Earhart sleep in her new leather jacket
A.She cared for it a lot. B.She tried to make it look old.
C.She worried others would take it away. D.She was too worn out to take it off.
3.The reason why Earhart felt like “baggage” was that ______.
A.she landed the plane safely
B.she was the only woman on the flight
C.she was not an active-enough participant
D.she was not given credit for her role in the flight
4.Which words can best describe Earhart

(2025·海南·二模)When I got my first research project to work as an undergraduate, I was so excited that I could hardly think. I had worked in an engineering lab to design and build a part that could deliver power more efficiently to phones and other electronic devices. Seeing my research applied in reality was exciting, inspiring me to consider a future career as an academic.
My excitement, though, was soon cut short when my professor asked me to write a research paper on the project. My body tensed. Writing was the last thing I wanted to do.
I hated writing growing up. It felt like travelling through a chaotic jungle, where creative types swung easily among the messy vines, while I frightenedly held a low-hanging branch, unsure where to go next. I knew that if I wanted to become an academic, I would need to spend time penning papers. But with my awful record with writing, I was worried about failing. In a panic, I asked a graduate student in my lab for help. We defined a goal for the paper, and I carefully wrote an outline. But when I asked him for feedback (反馈), I soon found the paper covered in red marks. This situation brought back unpleasant memories of past failures.
Before I could withdraw in defeat, though, the graduate student explained that red didn’t mean I was a bad writer. Writing isn’t a one-and-done thing. It requires revising your work, often several times. Suddenly it occurred to me, “Hadn’t I done the same thing when I was searching for an efficient design ”
I kept refining the outline of my paper, eventually turning it into sentences and paragraphs, guided by feedback from others. My initial draft wasn’t perfect. I had buried a few key takeaways, and the introduction was missing important context. But with help, I was finally making my way through the jungle, and surprisingly, I was having fun.
5.Why did the author choose to pursue science
A.He wanted to design advanced phones.
B.He was talented at writing scientific papers.
C.He was expected to follow his professor’s example.
D.He felt it was amazing to put research into practice.
6.How did the author feel when asked to write a research paper
A.Excited. B.Embarrassed. C.Nervous. D.Confident.
7.What did the graduate student’s feedback on the author’s paper mainly involve
A.Suggestions for improvement. B.Criticism of his research methods.
C.Praise for excellent writing skills. D.Confirmation of research results.
8.What is the main idea of the text
A.The importance of writing skills in academia.
B.The role of feedback in improving writing abilities.
C.The author’s challenges in scientific research.
D.The author’s journey from hating to enjoying writing.

(24-25高三上·北京昌平·期末)Juleus Ghunta is a published children’s author and award-winning poet. But growing up, he could barely read. Raised in a rural part of Western Jamaica, Ghunta and his brothers had limited resources to learn and play.
“Life was very difficult for us,” he recalled. When Ghunta finally went to school, he couldn’t catch up on his reading skills. Since not only had he been kept home from school as a child, he had not been exposed to books. By the time he entered Grade Six, he could only spell his own name, but couldn’t make out words or read with understanding. The situation was made worse by a series of impatient teachers who made him feel worthless and upset. He struggled in school with a deep sense of loss.
When Ghunta was about 12, a young teacher-in-training, whose name he does not recall, started a reading program for struggling students. Ghunta was the first to sign up. “The teacher was incredibly kind to me,” he said. “She was patient and creative, but did not ask anything of me except that I work hard and believe in myself.”
Under her guidance, Ghunta’s reading skills started to improve and his sense of insufficiency began to lift. He graduated from elementary school with a number of academic awards. He went on to college, and later, graduate school. Today, he is the author of two children’s books, including Rohan Bullkin and the Shadows: A Story about ACEs and Hope, about overcoming difficult experiences in childhood. (24-25高三上·江西·期末)The Earth is one huge, living organism, and we have the privilege of calling it home. We enjoy the beauty of blue skies, the shade of tall trees, and the soft motion of waves.
Being able to breathe clean air is largely a result of the way plants absorb carbon and purify the air on our planet home. The Amazon forest functions as Earth’s lungs. But deforestation (毁林) has made it difficult for the jungle to do its job.
Though there are many efforts to plant trees, the remoteness of the jungles makes it difficult. LuigiCani, the world-record-holding skydiver, felt like there was something he could do. After 14,000 jumps, Cani was ready to put his skills to good use.
Cani picked a 100-square-kilometer patch of land that needed to be reseeded in the northern part of the rainforest. The planning was detailed. For two months, seeds were collected by hand from nearby native plants. A special box the size of a refrigerator was built, a landing site was identified, and all the permits were secured from the local governments. The box had its own drag parachute (降落伞) to slow it down so Cani could catch up to it as it fell, open it at the right altitude, then safely throw it away and open his parachute.
The result was a cloud of 100 million seeds, bursting from the box like mad insects and settling into a gentle storm of potential trees floating from the sky in a beautiful eruption of life. The seeds fell at exactly where they needed to be. Ultimately, 95% would germinate (发芽) successfully. Like a proud father, Cani charts their growth via satellite images. Some trees will reach 50 meters in height, guarding the Amazon for generations to come.
Cani isn’t done with his efforts to care for our earthly home. His next jump will bring skydiving and ocean cleanup together. “Like the seed drop, this next project will have real meaning behind it.”
13.What is a challenge to grow trees in the Amazon
A.The extreme climate. B.The inaccessibility of the jungles.
C.Lack of effective methods. D.People’s deforestation.
14.What did Cani do to help
A.He helped to drop seeds. B.He donated parachutes.
C.He made seeds germinate. D.He collected insects.
15.Which word can be used to describe Luigi Cani
A.Determined and proud. B.Charitable and wealthy.
C.Talented and generous. D.Responsible and courageous.
16.What can be the best title for the passage
A.Collecting Millions of Seeds
B.Luigi Cani — a Record-Breaker
C.The Amazon Forest — Earth’s Lungs
D.Reforesting the Amazon with Luigi Cani’s Efforts
【答案】13.B 14.A 15.D 16.D

14.细节理解题。根据第四段中“Cani picked a 100-square-kilometer patch of land that needed to be reseeded in the northern part of the rainforest. The planning was detailed. For two months, seeds were collected by hand from nearby native plants. A special box the size of a refrigerator was built, a landing site was identified, and all the permits were secured from the local governments. The box had its own drag parachute (降落伞) to slow it down so Cani could catch up to it as it fell, open it at the right altitude, then safely throw it away and open his parachute.(Cani在雨林北部挑选了一块100平方公里的需要重新播种的土地。计划是详细的。在两个月的时间里,他们从附近的原生植物中手工采集种子。建造了一个冰箱大小的特殊盒子,确定了着陆点,并从地方政府获得了所有许可。这个箱子有自己的拖曳降落伞,可以让它减速,这样卡尼就可以在它下落时追上它,在合适的高度打开它,然后安全地扔掉它,打开降落伞。)”以及第五段“The result was a cloud of 100 million seeds, bursting from the box like mad insects and settling into a gentle storm of potential trees floating from the sky in a beautiful eruption of life.(结果是1亿颗种子组成的云,像疯狂的昆虫一样从盒子里炸出来,形成一场温和的风暴,潜在的树木在一次美丽的生命爆发中从天空漂浮起来)”等内容可知,Cani利用他的跳伞技能帮忙播种。故选A项。
15.推理判断题。通读全文,根据最后一段“Cani isn’t done with his efforts to care for our earthly home. His next jump will bring skydiving and ocean cleanup together. “Like the seed drop, this next project will have real meaning behind it.”(Cani还没有完成他照顾我们地球家园的努力。

During her stay, she documented the history and modernity of the ancient city through the lens of a camera, which she will share with the world.
Starting from Kashgar, Cammarota will set about a 15-month cultural journey across China and explore over 30 cities in 17 provinces and autonomous regions. Her journey will end in Beijing to mark the 750th anniversary of Marco Polo’s arrival in China.
She has only a backpack of about 20 kilos, which carries her summer and winter clothing and kits, including a portable compass, a small knife and a bottle of pepper spray for protection against animal attacks.

He’s now working on his first full-length collection of poetry.
In 2010, Ghunta went back to his elementary school, inquiring the principal and teachers if the young teacher was still there, but failed. He hoped to meet her and thank her for seeing his potential. “I would love her to see the significant impact she has made on my life, and the ways in which I have carried this memory of her — the hope, the light, with me — and how it continues to be a source of joy.”
